Don't know why he covered his 3DMark settings either.

apparently it takes an entire week to overnight a motherboard to me
Ordered saturday, still nothing....getting kind of pissed (have not been able to use battery for well over a month now) -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
oh man. i'm sorry you have to wait that long. but at least it is coming.

RE5 maxed out. 8aa max overclock

cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
no, but it WOULD stop me from OC'ing....the crippled current of just the AC adapter is not enough for any respectable stable OC
-
crippled current? lol. You should be able to remove the battery and get the same performance.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
the battery supplies more current than the AC adapter, Lithium has a nice high burst discharge rate
Notice most laptops actually run slower when on AC alone vs with battery installed? -
I tried pulling the battery to see if performance would improve but there was no difference. Performance definitely didn't go down. You must have more than just a battery issue.
-
I almost broke 16000 3DMarks last night. 15,978.
-
yeah...kind of have to agree...try a different wall socket or ups battery supply.
because the voltage from the battery is far less than the voltage from the power supply. no way can you game at full power on battery. the whole thing will just shut off. (if your trying to game using both cards) -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I am saying that when you have both the battery AND the AC adapter attached, the maximum current is available to the components, and more current means faster switching speeds means higher stability. Voltage is irrelevant since it gets regulated down anyway to the CPU voltage
I do not recall where I read it but I remember seeing something about laptops running slower with out battery...regardless, I will have a new motherboard (hopefully at home now?) to see for sure. I have tried many different wall sockets by the way.
All I know for sure, when battery worked, I could OC much better, without it, can't OC worth crap. Not likely to just be a coincidence considering NOTHING else changed? -
AC sending to laptop with out battery = more power for laptop (technically speaking - since no charge is sent to keep battery fully charged)
it's probably more your power adapter than anything else... if it starts to falter, you will lose the higher over clock ability...and if you fried your MB trying to over clock...chances are you fried something else as well....just not as bad....(speculations of course)
but hey, im not going to knock what your saying...it could be different with the m17x..but with every other laptop i tested...it was the power supply and not the battery..(just what i have seen during my battery vs ac testing while over clocking cpu/gpu's) -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I see, I will take that into consideration, but regardless, getting a new motherboard since my current one fails to utilize my battery at all
Assuming the new motherboard works with the battery I will then move on to test some further stuff (and get back to the benching, since I definitely cannot achieve the same overclocks I had before this all started - really hope nothing else is messed up.....)
Typically though, a CPU is MUCH tougher than the rest of the system, hope mine is ok..... -
I might have another to sell ya.
-
im on your side here scook9, but i tend to look at the whole picture...
but since you have to wait...i would keep experimenting..since all you have is time.... your already getting a replacement...so i would start testing them far fetched idea's...different versions of os's different drivers..different physx's drivers. reseting cmos, then pulling cpu and putting it back, then reset MB resources...and the list goes on, but you get the idea... -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I just want to get at least the OC I had before lol (3180 MHz in my case - that could pass hours and hours OCCT)
Didn't get to finalize my GPU OC before I started having problems
All in All, my goal is to get over P12357 lol
I don't see my cards matching the 4870's, but I can at least have the best Nvidia M17x haha -
BTW, 3dmark06 stutters like crazy so far when over-volting. Vantage seems to be more tolerant of it.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
-
So scook will be happy having the "best" of the inferior GPU.
-
like anything else...the 280's had their time in the sun....now it's time for someone else..
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
that is just until I bug Dell enough to sell me a 4870 upgrade kit
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I want to go after you gpu score now...
-
I would say mission accomplished if it was scook who said that. I know you're not going to stop.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
no i'm not. Lol. It's 44 points. I should be able to squeeze more performance out of it to beat him.
-
LOL..i know i wouldn't stop either, but then i usually have a trick or two still up my sleeve...
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
well I don't have any tricks left lol. Unless my cpu can survive 3.212ghz I may be able to it. Then overvolting which I don't know how far I can get with that.(not a trick any more. Everyone does it. Lol)
-
My replacement is here. OC'ed to 3.15 with no issues so far.
-
don...i keep telling you...it's a whole host of things to do..and once you get something working...then you have to go back and retest everything with it. this happens at each stage.
take me for instance...i just retested my single card vantage run and gain 2 more places to place 10th in the world. right in the middle of all the LN2 guys.
so trust me..there are still a few things to try...you just haven't gotten to them yet...not to mention using a qx9300...your still on a dual core...so there is plenty left to do.. -
The Mster Config v3.01 FINAL mods for Crysis at crymod.com will definitely increase your fps, you should see up 8-15 fps increase over your current very high settings. Try it out, if you haven't done so.

-
In the end just the keyboard wouldn't light up.
-
Oh I see, anyone done any benching with the Q9100?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
no. i don't know anyone with that cpu.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
that cpu is an upper-case fail.....it nearly cost as much as the qx9300 but is considerably slower
-
Yeah ofcourse a QX9300 is far superior. I just thought it would be interesting to know what it pushes overclocked, as I'm yet to read about anyone with an M17x benching one
-
guys ive got a problem, ive bn having trouble with sli since i got my machine, found out my 2nd 280 was not working so got it replaced, but i decided to check some benchmarks in the threat and found people with same spec as me getting 55+ fps in far cry 2 with ultra high settings and no AA, so i ran the same setup and got.... 35 average! im running 186.xx drivers, and i dono whats up =s even when i set it to 1 gpu card it runs about the same i think =s anyone know? kinda worried if something is up..
http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/3259/farcry2benchy.jpg
heres pic average was 35.23 -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
enable sli in nvidia control panel. i will install fc2 again later this week and see what's up with that.
but here's crysis max overclocked
-
Awesome score Don
..
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
thanks quad.
here is vantage stock gpu's
-
is that stock 280's with an overclocked proc? I can only get 9.9k for gpu score with my stock 280's... what's your secret?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yes my cpu is overclocked but my gpu is stocked.
-
Thats the stock score with the 182.46s ? Nice btw..
How about your gaming partition score with the hybrid drivers@stock.. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
you want me to go on there. everything is set to top quality and has no performance increasement what so ever. but it's cool. let me boot into it.
i'm using 186.82 on it but there is a better hybrid driver. -
Just trying to get some idea of what sacrifices your making running those drivers
..
Also could you do a Crysis run@stock on those drivers and possibly an OC run as well .
Trying to see whats what..
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
argh I ran it with fraps on. :mad
retesting... -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
stock vantage with the 9400m on wit 186.82
-
186.82, at least for me, showed lower bench scores than say 179.85 or 186.24. Which one are you NV folks finding to be the better driver for runs? I might want to take a stab at the scores with my M17x -
. Granted my memory is going to hurt me since its stock Dell 1066 but still might be a bit of fun to see what I can churn out.
Thanks.
