that seems to be standard procedure. i never ever did that. and can't see why others do. that smaller box shows the exact same things as the bigger one behind it. and that one shows far more info.

the correct way and should be standard practice

apparently it takes an entire week to overnight a motherboard to me :(

Ordered saturday, still nothing....getting kind of pissed (have not been able to use battery for well over a month now)

no, but it WOULD stop me from OC'ing....the crippled current of just the AC adapter is not enough for any respectable stable OC

crippled current? lol. You should be able to remove the battery and get the same performance.

the battery supplies more current than the AC adapter, Lithium has a nice high burst discharge rate :)

Notice most laptops actually run slower when on AC alone vs with battery installed?

I tried pulling the battery to see if performance would improve but there was no difference. Performance definitely didn't go down. You must have more than just a battery issue.

yeah...kind of have to agree...try a different wall socket or ups battery supply.
because the voltage from the battery is far less than the voltage from the power supply. no way can you game at full power on battery. the whole thing will just shut off. (if your trying to game using both cards)

I am saying that when you have both the battery AND the AC adapter attached, the maximum current is available to the components, and more current means faster switching speeds means higher stability. Voltage is irrelevant since it gets regulated down anyway to the CPU voltage

I do not recall where I read it but I remember seeing something about laptops running slower with out battery...regardless, I will have a new motherboard (hopefully at home now?) to see for sure. I have tried many different wall sockets by the way.

All I know for sure, when battery worked, I could OC much better, without it, can't OC worth crap. Not likely to just be a coincidence considering NOTHING else changed?

    example:
AC sending to laptop with out battery = more power for laptop (technically speaking - since no charge is sent to keep battery fully charged)

it's probably more your power adapter than anything else... if it starts to falter, you will lose the higher over clock ability...and if you fried your MB trying to over clock...chances are you fried something else as well....just not as bad....(speculations of course)

but hey, im not going to knock what your saying...it could be different with the m17x..but with every other laptop i tested...it was the power supply and not the battery..(just what i have seen during my battery vs ac testing while over clocking cpu/gpu's)

I see, I will take that into consideration, but regardless, getting a new motherboard since my current one fails to utilize my battery at all

Assuming the new motherboard works with the battery I will then move on to test some further stuff (and get back to the benching, since I definitely cannot achieve the same overclocks I had before this all started - really hope nothing else is messed up.....)

Typically though, a CPU is MUCH tougher than the rest of the system, hope mine is ok.....

im on your side here scook9, but i tend to look at the whole picture...

but since you have to wait...i would keep experimenting..since all you have is time.... your already getting a replacement...so i would start testing them far fetched idea's...different versions of os's different drivers..different physx's drivers. reseting cmos, then pulling cpu and putting it back, then reset MB resources...and the list goes on, but you get the idea... :)

I just want to get at least the OC I had before lol (3180 MHz in my case - that could pass hours and hours OCCT)

Didn't get to finalize my GPU OC before I started having problems

All in All, my goal is to get over P12357 lol ;)

I don't see my cards matching the 4870's, but I can at least have the best Nvidia M17x haha

BTW, 3dmark06 stutters like crazy so far when over-volting. Vantage seems to be more tolerant of it.

well I don't have any tricks left lol. Unless my cpu can survive 3.212ghz I may be able to it. Then overvolting which I don't know how far I can get with that.(not a trick any more. Everyone does it. Lol)

don...i keep telling you...it's a whole host of things to do..and once you get something working...then you have to go back and retest everything with it. this happens at each stage.
take me for instance...i just retested my single card vantage run and gain 2 more places to place 10th in the world. right in the middle of all the LN2 guys.

so trust me..there are still a few things to try...you just haven't gotten to them yet...not to mention using a qx9300...your still on a dual core...so there is plenty left to do.. :)

i'm using 186.82 on it but there is a better hybrid driver.

Also could you do a Crysis run@stock on those drivers and possibly an OC run as well .

186.82, at least for me, showed lower bench scores than say 179.85 or 186.24. Which one are you NV folks finding to be the better driver for runs? I might want to take a stab at the scores with my M17x - ;). Granted my memory is going to hurt me since its stock Dell 1066 but still might be a bit of fun to see what I can churn out.

    Thanks.
