just up your ram to 1333mhz. You should get better ram with lower cas(i hate my phone auto correct feature sometimes).

use 182.46 dox but make sure your 9400m is disabled.
I'd you want your hybrid to be on then 186.24
    btw thanks drake. ;)

Yeah the performance differences across the board are pretty huge with those drivers.. Not just vantage as we see but that carried over to Crysis as well.. 4-5 frames does not sound like much on paper but its huge when your max is around 32.. Either way good work Don ..

Wonder if you would see a difference disabling the 9400m in the bios and rerunning those ? i dont think you will as i remember having very similar scores when benching Crysis with the 9400 disabled and using newer drivers ..

Oh before i forget have you run those under 64 bit or are you having issues getting the game running under 64 ?.

Id love Drake to install Crysis one of these days and give it a whirl on the ATI cards .. Stock and OC..

Are the 280's stable for long term gaming when overclocked? What's the best tool to oc them? Thx

my disc is damage for crysis(got it in 07 with my hp and was traveling with my disc across the world. Lol)

so I patched it so I don't have to put the dvd in. The x86 works fine but the x64 always says crysis has occurred an error.(my disc should be good enough to run it x64 I'll try it when I find it. Lol.

    oh btw...
i'm starting to game on 1920*1080. The performance is to great for a tiny drop in res.

watching the performance difference with all my notebooks. Ati's and red doesn't matter UNLESS there is a performance issue...

but with nvidia the lower your drop the red. There's a big performance in performance regardless if there is a performance barrier or not.

btw running vantage stock right now with the 280m gtx sli on. The 9400m disabled. Not even going to overclock on vantage...

Wrong thread - but to answer your question, there is no reason to OC for gaming IMO. You can, but its your call.

@Don and Quad: Thanks for the input on bench drivers. I usually have the 9400 disabled anyway and for benches its staying off as well ;) Thanks guys.

i don't overclock when gaming. i refuse to. there's no need. having a 8600m gs overclocked when gaming with all the nvidia gpu's dying made me learn my lesson so don't think about it.

    and use nvidia system tools.

also if you have anybugs with it email me to get it all sorted out. (my username at gmail and don't forget the dot and then the com..) NP

i can't beleive dox stop devolpment. i'm hoesntly about to make my own nvidia driver..... but it's much harder to read everything and change compared to ati's driver's.

    vantage 9400m disabled.

i'm going to show hwmoniter for the rest of these runs. i should of did that from the beginning.

Yeah Dox did some serious tweaking to the drivers to not compromise image quality to much and give a nice boost in performance... Its to bad he stopped but i read his send off letter and it seemed he lost interest all together..

Maybe someone will pickup one day where he left off .. I know in the desktop world there is still a couple but that does not help the mobility sector...

Yeah we do have Batboy but i think his intentions are to make a good working Hybrid driver vs a performance oriented one.. Maybe he can come up with both though ? ;)..

/taps foot waiting for Mandrake to install Crysis :D...

I may have an M17x coming my way this week but with 280s .. I got a super bargain i just could not pass up on so we shall see... I really wanted the 4870s more then anything but this will be inline more with what i can and want to spend right now...

And i can finally pass on my M17 to someone who needs a great machine for a super bargain :)..

Doin' it now. My system doesn't feel complete yet without my SSDs.

Yesterday I spent a big part of the day testing hardware. The ATI cards in my new system could not be OC'ed as high as the cards in the older system. Take a wild guess at what I did. ;)

also do high runs. In the w90 nvidia won high while ati won very high.

Don't hold your breath - I'm not a DOX by any means. My exp ends with DeviceIDs and sorting existing INF data. In terms of tweaks, I have never attempted it. Might look at it more when time permits... As to the Hybrid vs. Performance - nahhh... we have functional Hybrid Drivers now, no need for me to worry about that aspect. My 9400 is disabled 95% of the time anyway ;)

Issue with when i was trying the Qx9300 though in the M17x is i would hit a Bluescreen long before even windows booted so im not sure how much help your solution will be but hopefully ill know more next week.. Im fine with 2.93 for day today operations but id be even happier with it at 3.2 all day long :)..

btw. Ati's are better unpatched in crysis from what I saw. Compared to where as nvidia's performance didn't budge. Just trying to be fair. I AM patched right now.

    @Don..
I think that was the case with the 3870s but im not sure on the 4870s.. Atleast from what i had going on my W90.. You beat my scores though with a massive GPU OC.. Mine were at stock when i ran 29fps but they were also at 1920x1080...

    @Drake
Are you using the benchmark tool or just the built in GPU batch file ?.

Set up all your settings how you like it in game and then try to run the GPU batchfile instead.. try it from both the 32bit and 64 bit directory..

Did you patch the game btw ?..

yes. i had that problem with my whitebook with the game starting instead of the benchmark but i don't remember the fix. patch it up and see what's up.
also with my whitebook (ati's i found to be really messed up with crysis. (nvidia i wonder if you had something to do with it. ))

with my whitebook, i had to make sure the game was set to t he same settings as the benchmark. the tool settings would no work. (i'm not sure if a framework fixed that though.)

also with the benchmarking tool. i'm not sure if motionblur(added in the patches) counts in on the benchmarking tool.
    i'll run 1920*1080 in a little but
    1920*1200

Heres a tidbit of info i may have forgot to mention to try...

"You install the benchmarking tool into the crysis folder and run it from there".

Mine was always inside the Crysis folder but i can see how some people might run it from say there Download directory instead...

You can try 2 more things. 1. Run it in vista compatibility mode .. The app that is.. 2. download the no cd cracks for the game..

Thats about all the info i could find related to Crysis and Win7.. It seems the issues stem from the new OS...

    Should be 1.05 benchmarking tool..

    Do veryhigh 1920x1200.. and 1920x1080..

Your scores though are a marked improvement it seems over my high setting scores from my W90 that is.. When i was running high or very high my score didnt move that much...

CPU is having very little influence on the score..

Also try and OC the GPUs after you do some stock runs..

try the x86 and see if it helps/hurts it.

your stock clocks are low so that will affect you.try 600/900 and see what's up. But stock is more important. And do max overclock.
