the 280m is equal to a 250gts right?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
-
hard to say till we run some numbers.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
is that your cards?
SF4 just finished downloading so i'm going to try Stallker again same settings as above and then i'm going to run SF4 -
yeah. those are mine cards.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
sli?
running everything maxed out now. On stalker then overclocked. Then SF4... -
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
here's the 280m sli
http://i50.tinypic.com/1248w2r.jpg
i'm mad the two 280m's equals one 250 gts...
going to overclock. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
there is no dirrence between stocked and overclocked.
http://i47.tinypic.com/2luxjz5.jpg
i'm going to run SF4 -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
SF4 everyone maxed on highest detail except texture is on default and aa is on.
i'm going to run texture on max and 8aa. next. then overclock. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
everything maxed out 16x on texture and 8aa..
it can maybe be me using a dual core or ati just won again. i know that capcom and ati has a thing going on though like crytek and nvidia. -
ATI cards rock with AA in Capcom games because they use DX10.1AA which means no performance hit like the Nvidia cards..
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
oh oh i see. i didn't know that.
-
So just newer technology "winning" out?
It's still more fun pushing the system as far as you can with Vantage or 3dmark06. The gaming benchmarks get old fast. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
well the highest i got was 15,200 in 06 and 12,108 on the gpu in vantage.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
That is why I never bothered with games, the ONLY one that is a challenge to run is Crysis lol - the rest run amazing with this system
Were you referring to a desktop GTS 250 John? If so that is pretty much the exact same core as the GTX 280m. ONLY difference will be the power saving crap. They are both fully open 55nm G92 cores. Although, no one has gotten a GTX 280m upto 738 MHz core haha - the stock speed for a GTS 250 -
yep. stock desktop. i got it as a physx card addon for testing. want to see if it will work with the 5970...haha
hey don, run SF4 with C8AA on..want to see something and mandrake as well. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
How would that work driver-wise....as nvidia is blocking physx from working when any ATI drivers are found haha (pretty gay nvidia)
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
here you go john.
ati doesnt have c8aa and stuff. that's for nvidia only.
i will overclock the cpu some more then a new driver -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Don...run these game benchmarks with a REAL driver....not the Dox one that is ONLY good for running Vantage
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i'm running 190.38 right now.
btw ocerclocking from 3.125 vs 3.212 on the cpu increase my fps to one more fps. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
same settings but with 190.38 drivers.
-
and yes friends...it's playing like a slide show.
edit:
back up now...4.5 fps im going for a record....lol
slowmotion going on over here...say...the kicks and punches are way off with the explosions..i never knew that -
Dox is a real driver, just modified !!
-
I wonder if it's possible for Dell to release a Bios Update that updates the BIOS on the 4870s as well to allow ATI Overdrive to control the clocks. I personally dont want to get involved with flashing my GPU clocks all the time to overclock.. it would be nice to control the ATI clocks from the Catalyst Control Center.
-
ATI Overdrive should be base on the video bios and not the system bios. They could always release a firmware upgrade for the ATI cards.
-
Yeah, I've never seen Dell upgrade video bioses seperately on cards which is why I was suggesting it would be tied to a full Bios update (if you have ATI's it will also update that BIOS or whatever). Whatever the vehicle it would be very appreciated.
However Mandrake (and I won't hold you to this) for someone who wants to use his cards strictly for stable gaming and just wants to squeeze a bit more juice out of them - what is a safe GPU/memory clock to flash to? I'm pretty sure stock is way under the threshhold that this is safely capable of. I'd like to flash them just once and leave them at that speed. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
you don't need to overclock your cards to game. you are fine stock.
-
I believe Don is correct. Unfortunately I'm probably the last person to ask about gaming since I only play one game. I do have 3 games on order and I think I'm more looking forward to benching them than playing them.
I would only suggest trying to OC them for gaming if you are having a specific problem with a game you are trying to correct. In that case just start OC'ing in small increments until the problem goes away. -
now look at cha. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
No one is concerned with it. Until they try it and realize they can have the best score in the world
-
pretty much so, mr cook...pretty much so...
-
On a side note I became a M17 owner today. I'm interested in comparing the two systems. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
they are both nice, the M17 can OC the CPU very well (but does not cool it as well)
I liked my whitebook alot, I like my M17x more
You will enjoy the extreme ease of access on that M17 though for sure. 3870s or 4850s? -
3870s. After Bing cash back and a coupon I got it for under $1K but it only has a P8400. I'm thinking P9700 for it.
edit: Make that T9900, found a good deal for one. -
well...i came from a hp dv9000..
back when don and i we're putting it down! with out 3k to 4k vantage runs...rotflmao -
-
that SF4 score isnt great, i beat it with my 280's
need more from u drake -
-

alienware m17x -
i know your sitting in front of your lappy...go ahead and run that res don...thanks
-
It was their cheapest M17.
don you going to let the M980NU embarrass the M17x?
BTW, I have a feeling we are dealing with another flawed benchmark. -
meaning sf4?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i'm at work.
but I will run it when I get home.
the low res, the better nvidia does. So mandrake i'm sorry to say but you will lose at a lower res. -
-
Heh... why would you buy an M17..? your M17x is clearly better?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
there's some tbing about the whitebook that's special. That's why.
-
1: another toy to test
2: possible upgrade for the t60p
3: possible permanent addition to ones collection -
