ATI cards rock with AA in Capcom games because they use DX10.1AA which means no performance hit like the Nvidia cards..

So just newer technology "winning" out?

It's still more fun pushing the system as far as you can with Vantage or 3dmark06. The gaming benchmarks get old fast.

That is why I never bothered with games, the ONLY one that is a challenge to run is Crysis lol - the rest run amazing with this system

Were you referring to a desktop GTS 250 John? If so that is pretty much the exact same core as the GTX 280m. ONLY difference will be the power saving crap. They are both fully open 55nm G92 cores. Although, no one has gotten a GTX 280m upto 738 MHz core haha - the stock speed for a GTS 250

I wonder if it's possible for Dell to release a Bios Update that updates the BIOS on the 4870s as well to allow ATI Overdrive to control the clocks. I personally dont want to get involved with flashing my GPU clocks all the time to overclock.. it would be nice to control the ATI clocks from the Catalyst Control Center.

ATI Overdrive should be base on the video bios and not the system bios. They could always release a firmware upgrade for the ATI cards.

Yeah, I've never seen Dell upgrade video bioses seperately on cards which is why I was suggesting it would be tied to a full Bios update (if you have ATI's it will also update that BIOS or whatever). Whatever the vehicle it would be very appreciated.

However Mandrake (and I won't hold you to this) for someone who wants to use his cards strictly for stable gaming and just wants to squeeze a bit more juice out of them - what is a safe GPU/memory clock to flash to? I'm pretty sure stock is way under the threshhold that this is safely capable of. I'd like to flash them just once and leave them at that speed.

I believe Don is correct. Unfortunately I'm probably the last person to ask about gaming since I only play one game. I do have 3 games on order and I think I'm more looking forward to benching them than playing them.

I would only suggest trying to OC them for gaming if you are having a specific problem with a game you are trying to correct. In that case just start OC'ing in small increments until the problem goes away.

uh yeah, scook answered that perfectly. My last gaming system was a M1730. I wasn't going to break any records with it.

On a side note I became a M17 owner today. I'm interested in comparing the two systems.

they are both nice, the M17 can OC the CPU very well (but does not cool it as well)

I liked my whitebook alot, I like my M17x more :)

You will enjoy the extreme ease of access on that M17 though for sure. 3870s or 4850s?

3870s. After Bing cash back and a coupon I got it for under $1K but it only has a P8400. I'm thinking P9700 for it.

edit: Make that T9900, found a good deal for one.

Alienware's outlet store known as ebay. ;) It was their cheapest M17.

I'll change my res and try it again. The main thing is you have 280s and don was no where near your score.

don you going to let the M980NU embarrass the M17x? ;)

BTW, I have a feeling we are dealing with another flawed benchmark.
