Using the snipping tool within Vista/Windows 7

 

That's easily 16k maybe even 17 with qx9300.

 

I just added a new benchmark program called heaven, the developer says tessellation is used extensively to add detail to the game environment "almost free of charge in terms of performance". Keep in mind that you'll need DX11 hardware to see tessellation in action.

 

I have just run the benchmark in my desktop (HD 4670, so DX10 only), I was surprised of the small effect of changing Shader and Texture quality on the FPS.

 

When you run the benchmark do you see any change in the Bus Interface ?

According to the GPU-Z the Bus Interface is PCI-E 2.0 x16 @ 8 which means it runs at half the speed idle.

 

each cards is getting x8, that is because the chipset can only supply 20 lanes, so 8 to each card and rest for peripherals

You cannot expect to get full x16 to each chipset on a nudered mobile chipset. Maybe the x38 in the W90 but that would be about it

 

yeah the w90 reads as pci-e 2.0 x16 @16

my overclocking numbers only shows in in vantage. nothing else. 3dmark06, farcry2, dmc4, nothing.......

I need a tool to OC GPU. Anyone know of a working one? Over Drive does not seem to work.

 

ATiTool should work for overclocking those cards. It works with nVidia cards too. (That's the program I use to keep my desktop 8800GT overclocked, it can automatically start and set clocks at boot)

It does not work. I get a mesasge " AMD Overdrive fail to start ".

 

Nice Rengsey. As soon as you figure out how to OC the GPUs my Vantage record will definitely fall. 11.6K and no OC? That rocks! Keep it up!!

My bad....need to stop with that camera. Start > All Programs > Accessories > Snipping Tool.

 

Have you tried GPUtool from techpowerup? It's different from AMD GPU tool btw:

think they are maybe 200 points up at stock on the 280's

tbh i dont think there will be alot between them which is dissapointing,

have they been 100% confirmed as ddr5 yet?

 

They have been confirmed to be GDDR3 actually

We will see how well they OC and then decide if they win or not

 

so we have proof the ATI's bench higher at stock levels??

 

Man, I have no luck whatsoever on trying to OC the GPU. It freezes my laptop when I try to install it.

Overdrive fail to start

yah, that too. When I hit " apply " the setting , it goes back to default stock settings.

 

Hey guys- just for a comparison, I've got Vader benching right now with the CPU set to 2.8 Ghz (I am hoping you just upped the multi to 10.5 Rengsey) and stock settings on the 280's so we can have some form of comparison. Just to make sure I've been doing it right all these times, it's the "Performance" preset in Vantage with "Disable PPU" checked, correct?

Test should be done in a few minutes, will up the results then and we can have a crude comparison between GPU sets.

Hey folks- sorry it took a bit. Had to go get my pizza out of the oven. 4:30 AM over here in Germany and lots of benching to do....need food.

So here it is. Will run them a few more times to see if they stay consistent.



EDIT- Hmmnn, for some reason my CPU is low....but the GPU score has been pretty much consistent the last two runs. Always hovers right around 10.2k. Hope this helps!

EDIT EDIT- Also, these were done with stock drivers and speeds. Just fyi.

 

Hey Praetorian77, we have the same specs m17x except for the GPU. Here is my Vantage score with everything stock and CPU multi to 10.5

 

that aint a stock cpu speed

 

He set his CPU to 2.8 and so did I. Stock referring to GPU, since I have no tool to OC my ATI. So the comparison here is GPU vs GPU and both set CPU @ 2.8Ghz on both side.

Then it seems like stock ATI's with (I'm assuming) stock drivers are just about on par with stock 280's with stock drivers, maybe a few points higher either way. Every run I've done has been consistent in returning a result of about 10.2k (my CPU seems to be slow today for whatever reason, but right now I'm on same OC as you- 10.5 multi for a total of 2.8 Ghz.)

Also, just curious, how do you keep the Aero color scheme when running Vantage? For some reason my 7 defaults to basic every time I load the program up....

 

I'm still on Vista Ult.

 

I have experienced the same thing when starting vantage in Windows 7 praetorian, I would not worry about it

 

Yeah Win7 reverts to a basic color scheme for Vantage for whatever reason i dont know...

vantage doesn't run under windows areo..or at least as far as i can tell.

 

I tried 4 tools and so far no go trying to OC the ATIs

 

Do you own any games you can benchmark ? Crysis,DMC 4,Resident Evil 5, Farcry2.. Some of these have demos or straight up benchmark tools like Resident Evil 5..

Id like to see Crysis at 1920x1200 very high.. My W90s high score was 29fps at 1920x1080(didnt have 1920x1200 screen) But im thinking these should be some screaming cards .. Average on the 280s at 1920x1200 with no GPU OC is about 27-28..

 

LOL , I downloaded those files listed. Are those just tools? I don't have the actual games.
