Nvidia is the lazy company employing the smoke and mirror tactics, so sorry, dudes, it is us 280m users who are with the dark side. BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Anyway, Don, I guess you made thoughtful move. Ever consider extending the warranty? It might increase your chances at getting an R2 model as replacement sometime in the future. (If your M17x were to. . . you know. . . go bad.)

R2??? you get the 3 year warranty and just kick it back and wait for the next generation of stuff

We are talking 6k series and core i12! lol

Since I am upgrading to the 4870s courtesy of Dell, you bet your a$$ I am going to extend my warranty and just coast lol, you all can have your RGB screen and i7 for now

Yeah, that's how I am taking this ride.

Some of the M17x owners are originally Inspiron 9400/XPS M1710 owners, working up the ladder through Dell's N.B.D. policy. Just keep a long running warranty, and eventually, they will run out of incentive and parts to deal with the problems of an obsolete machine, which will result in them just sending out a more up-to-date machine that could be considered at least equal or better.

Personally, I do want to enjoy the specification of my machine for a good while. All I really want is a QX9300 OEM at bargain price. Finding a larger variety of mobile CPUs here in UK is very hard.

    Edit:
Don, they do get better deals for three-year-warranty. In fact, even here in UK, they were offering I think 3 years for the price of 2. Reason why I suggest getting a larger package - it might improve the market value of your machine, because the buyer would/should know that with more than two years of warranty on the machine, they are actually investing in not only a good machine, but a potentially good deal that might lead to an upgrade in the future. All they gotta' do is transfer the warranty and relax.

I am trying, but even now, they are going a bit high.

Like I said, I am looking for a good bargain. Last OEM CPU on ebay went for £320, I think. I don't know. . . a bit much. I would've tried bidding, but I missed the auction.

Yeah, but the point I was making: A so-called 'outdated' 9800m GTX SLi (certainly not outdated or a slouch by my standards), actually came -very- close to these current cards at doing Crysis Very High, including 4870. Albeit with a very mild overclock just to hold ground in the playing field.

Same card? Yes, they are all G92, but the 260 is cooler and higher clocked, and the 280 has another 16 shaders per card. Although probably very little impact.

Anyway, I was comparing John's result with a current 4870 CF bench run of Crysis DX10 at 1200p, where the average was 31.7 FPS at very high. John's 9800 with core memory and shaders overclocked to 580, 950, and 1450, respectively, did upwards of 29, which makes it very close. Technically, the 9800 is more than beaten on most fronts, but by a very small margin when you take a polygon goliath like Crysis into consideration.

And yes, 9800s were 65nm. Technically, the 260 is a refined die-shrunk version. G92 vs G92b. I am not complaining. I am quite impressed with the fact that 9800m GTX did so well. If only I could've gotten a decent 9800m GTX for the M1730 with good overclock potential. I would've been set for gaming.

also I did my record with stock gpu's. You can do both. Just list stock gpu and overclocked gpu on them. I'll count both of them. I record is a record. But I just want to know what you got stock gpu as well.

    Yes, sir!

    . . .but not installed.

I'll get to it, but I can already tell you that my average will be around 40+, because that's what I got on my 3.4 GHz 9800m GTX SLi (Overclocked 610/810/1550) M1730. This particular game likes more CPU cores to really enjoy those high average rates.

I ran my tests with AA, but even without AA, it only make a difference of like 2 FPS to the average frame rate.

    Dude, really?

I have found that overclocking the GPU made almost no difference to the average rate. Maybe 1 FPS, at best. Using a 3.4 GHz - X9000 - and 9800m GTX SLi at stock, I got an average of 42 frames-per-second. I used drivers ranging from all of the 182s, then the 185s, followed by 186.81, and then the 190s. Results varied, but not by much.

And do I understand this correctly. . . the P8600 can overclock to 6GHZ? Bloody hell! That is fast. Has anyone done any benches with a similar frequency?
