Have not dabbled in FC2 like you have don, so just a learning curve is all
If the CPU really does boost it, I should be ok, given I was able to run 3.33 happily for a while![]()

Oh, I see. Thanks to both you and Rengsey for clearing that up; I never messed around with machines that used desktop CPUs. I was always interested in going that route, but never got the opportunity. Sounds interesting.
Anyway, Don, thanks for the PM. I've replied, so maybe you can share some tips on improving the FC2 performance. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
we'll see what up with it and try to get as much out of it as posible.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Sad news for you Don, just got the call this morning that my cards have already arrived with the tech! I should get them installed this afternoon.
So I will not have any GTX 280m SLI runs for you in FC2 but can gladly do some 4870 runs
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
bring it on.
I'll start benchmarking early next week.
your still making excuses. Lol. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
how else still has there 280m gtx sli?
or I'm I the line ranger is the field of 4870 and 260???
is there a way to get the silver casing? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
the silver is pretty sweet
Aparently dell or ebay are only options though -
Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
Meh. I'll support your cause with my 280s. They haven't annoyed me yet. But, you gotta' help me up my framerate, because even with the M17x T9550 clocked at 3.2 GHz and with 280m GTX SLi, I think I get like 47.8 average, using 186.81 on Vista 64. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i'll check what i got with my t9300... and of course.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i have acouple runs that arent organized i have my t9300@ 3.2ghz
i dont remember if that is stocked or overclocked on the gpu.... -
Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
That's much better than mine (47 average). . . I guess it's official, then, the 9800m GTX is 20% faster than 280m GTX! And you were using an slow FSB CPU! LAWL! Kidding! Kidding!
I am sure I need to tweak something to get the right result. -
I can do some 280 runs for you all on FC2- is there a benchmarker program for it seperate or is does it require a full install of the game? I'd be more than happy to fire it up here....have got nothing else to do whilst I wait on hold with Dell to try to snag a pair of 4870's.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yes. go to the install program and you will see the benchmarking tool.
-
Awesome sauce- well, then, as soon as I finish up the call (which I'm making over Skype) I'll squeeze some runs out.
-Edit- Need any patches or updates from vanilla? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i dont remember.... you can try and see if there is a difference though.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
WOW...these 4870s are going to be fun!
All stock with no tweaks....over 11000 GPU score!
-
You got them pretty quick.
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
What sort of temps are they sitting at?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
No clue on temps, HWmonitor is not picking them up. Any advice here Mandrake?
And yes they were quick, went from on the phone to installed in under 24 hours! My computer just does everything fast! lol -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Try Everest. Latest version of GPU-Z may also work from memory (if it doesnt crash
)
-
gpuz should work.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
But HWMonitor did not work for you either? it is my preferred method
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
nice. Scook that was very fast.
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Not until it's updated, no. It cant read the sensors on the 4850s either. -
now you know why we are talking ati, mr scook...lol
-
no tweaks here too, but my cpu really suks
Need a quad x soon!

So is there any other temp monitoring tool that will show the max GPU temps during gaming?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
what cpu do you have???
in your sig it says r1. the r1 was dicounted last year. r2 is with centrino 2 and r3 is with i7. -
Ooops!
It's R2, heh P8700
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
overclock your cpu. your cpu is way to low.
[email protected]
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
That would be wrong Don....the one last year was the Area-51 m17x
Now we have the M17x R1 All Powerful and the M17x R2 All Powerful -
Oops again, lol. Yes we are using R1, heh....
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
idk whats what. i wish the change the name like the m1710 m1720 m1730...
-
Just never refer to it as the M17x anymore. Type M17xR1 or M17xR2.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
yes a name change would make more sense
But this way they can boast they sold X M17x machines when really it is 3 models that are each X/3 lol -
i just wanted to benchmark and OC MY GTX 280M TO MAXX before sending it back to dell here its what i got with street fighter
my q9000 its OC to 2.5ghz
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
what over clock was that.

cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
lol, aint ran it yet, parents are in town
patience Don, patience -
get'em don!
tell him to set the laptop to run on it's own in the back room...he sure has time to chit chat to us right now...he has time to closet bench as well....lol
j/k with ya mr cook!
say, you seem to be spending more time with us than your parents...bra!

I am new to this bench, any tips or recommendations on what I should run?
(I only know how to do futuremark benches lol) -
also, do crysis with all settings on high and use the 1920x1080p since that seems to be more of a standard among all the brands.
do another veryhigh@1920x1080

I will do that one for you now. And these are all at stock clocks I will add -
Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
Hold on. . . I wonder why Scook's DX10 very high average scores lower than the other 4870 scores from a few pages back, which were like 31 average.
-
