*OFFICIAL* M17x Order Status Thread...*PART 2*

I had one of the m1730's replaced by an M17X. I have the new systems but had to fight to get the correct cards installed, replacing 260 with 280's. When I originally got approved for the replacement the tech told me to send everything back that was with the m1730. I said everything?, and she said yes, media and all. sounded dumb but I complied. So I pack it all up and send the dead thing in with the media, Backpack and all like requested. When the M17x got here, of course no backpack. I called to see about getting it back and after getting transferred for two days and hung up on "accidently?" i finally got a customer service rep say "shouldnt have sent that in, we cant send yours back or send you the alienware backpack." "we'll send you a $75 voucher to buy a new one online." OK thats cool, while on hold I see the bag is $99 but whatever. "you will see the voucher in your email within 48 hours." so after 3 business days I call back and the rep says, "the case number you gave me doesnt exist, and I dont know why they would have said that." I said ok lets start over again (very annoyed now) set me up with the voucher. He said "NO", "we already sent you a more expensive laptop." he wouldnt budge and I was exhausted of arguing. So I called back last night to try again, I want my damn backpack, and after holding for only 2 hours and transferred 4 times, another CSR agreed to send a $25 voucher, within 3-5 days in my email, which I verified 4 times.
Has anyone else has this much grief over dumb stuff?

 

Personally Dell blew off the appoinment last week to pick up my old m1730. It's still sitting boxed up by my front door.

seriously though... Bad luck man. At least you got a sweet upgrade. I also was promised a gift certificate with a Dell tower purchase that I never got and when I called back no one had any idea. You definately shouldn't have sent in your accessories and were Ill advised by your rep.

My order was shipped today. Ordered on October 23, was delayed one time. Of course, if you know how to talk to them, I was able to get the alienware Headset, mouse with no extra charge. For those who are still waiting or have been delayed, call Dell up, see if you can get them to ship your laptop along with the headset and mouse, in which they are offering for free on their website now. I'll post up benchmarks on the benchmark thread when i receive the order on Monday.

 

Congratz on your system. What configuration did you have? Mine was originally reordered around the same time as yours.

 

I didn't get anything special, just this. Allow one more week for yours, i think the Ati cards takes a little bit longer to build though, or they probably set you back in the queue.

Have to honestly say I dont ususally post on forums. ( Just not my thing) Came across this and was glad to see there were others just as anxious as me to get their baby. Just ordered mine today like 1 hour ago.

I was lucky enough to get my m1730 refunded due to so many problems i had:
-replaced hard drive 2 times, both gave out
-replaced ram once
-replaced keyboard
-replaced video card twice (2nd time they upgraded to 8800mgtx SLI from the dual 256 cards, lucky me then)
-had dead pixels 2 times (after the 2nd which was last problem manager said he would refund me since they didnt make it anymore)

Anyways Estimated Delivery Date is Dec. 12, 2009 Sigh... i hate waiting. Hope all turns out, anyone care to say how much they like the ati video cards?

 

wow...I can tell that Dell CS is much better than orginal AW's. I ordered my m17x on 11/20 and it was shipped today. The rep give me free next business shipping, and also called me immediately when he learnt my order got shipped out from the assembly factory.(I told him I will leave the U.S on December and I need to take my new laptop with me)

 

My original order date was 10/22 and was cancelled without my consent only to reordered my system on 11/13. I just got off the phone with dell and they will ship my laptop this Tuesday...Can't wait!!!

AW customer support is better than the dell liars/transferers. AW has fewer people now that dell is consolidating AW's support center so it takes longer to get a rep initially. Within a few months all AW and Dell calls will go to the same call center, just different groups.

I'm wondering if anyone with a P8600 processor is delayed. It seems like other systems ordered late October that were delivered have similar configurations other than the P8600. I've seen 1TB raid 0, crossfire 4870's, 4GB 1066 RAM, WUXGA screens but no P8600. I also noticed another manufacturer I was considering listed the P8600 only being available until 10/31.

Other locations I look at list the P8600 priced the same as the P8700. Although it would seem odd Dell would keep it as an option if it were no longer available.

I don't know, maybe they just don't like me

 

I ordered my m17x with P8600. I am going to swap it with OEM QX9300 by myself

 

According to customer support the P8600 is extremely back ordered and causing all the delays and no end in sight.

Remember when I was ranting about the issues it had in the Benchmark thread? Fans had vibration or farting noise on start up and shut down, Constantly the fan will sound like a whirling tornado, BSOD every 3-4 boot...lol.. * shrug shoulders * I just didn't feel comfortable about it, so I sent it back.

This is my " 3rd " re-order.

 

the "farting" noises don't go away. I've had 3 M17x in my position and they all do that.

At least mine goes away. The m17x farting noises does tickle my feather or is the feather tickling me?

 

@Regensey, did you get extended warranty for your laptop? I got 2 years warranty for both my m15x and m17x, think I'm gonna up that by one more year just in case anything happens. If your going to spend 4k for a laptop, might as well pitch in that extra $200-$300 bucks to protect your investment for a few more years... Just a suggestion that's all.

 

Can someone tell me where the M17x machines are actually built?
I am getting mine delivered to Europe.

I heard a rumour it is built in India, is that a possibility? Seems unlikely as they have a factory in Poland, Europe.
And how long do you think it will take to ship from India to Europe?

I think that they are built in China and then shipped to Europe/North America and the rest of the World where they are being sold. Not sure though ...

I was myself under the assumption that for the orders placed by the US customers, their machines would assemble in Miami, FL (I think it was the main assembly factory of the original Alienware machines)

 

The Alienware desktop I owned was assembled in Alienwares Miami plant. Of course, this was about 8 years ago and a lot has changed since then. As a matter of fact, that actually used to be one of Alienwares "bragging points" That their systems werent "cookie cutter" assembled and were given specific ndividual attention in their own small factory.

Hello to every member who has ordered recently an Alienware m17x.

I have a question. 3 days ago, Dell made promotion like Free Alienware tactx mouse and headset when purchasing a M17X. So I made my order this day.

But before yesterday when I went to watch on the site, this promotion was not there anymore. When I checked my order status, I have notified that only a free tactx headset is offered, the tactx mouse is not in the list.

What's happened with this promotion? It expires normally on 3 dec 2009, but it expired before yesterday. I don't know if you have profited this offer, but I have only an Alienware tactx headset offered at the moment. And I think it is not honest from Dell to cancel the promotion as what they did to my order.

Do you have the same problem?

 

It is hard to say what is going on with their site, but your best bet might be calling a rep in person.

When I placed my business order for an m17x on 11/16, it required me to select a video game. It kept throwing an error if I did not select one on the website. My dell rep was at a loss for words over that one. Also, it required that I pick a mouse in the order or I could not proceed. But the site was actually demanding that I pick a keyboard to complete the order, despite the text saying "mouse". The entire experience on their website was confusing and disheartening. Even the Dell rep kept laughing and shaking his head.

Either way, it kept saying the mouse and game were free in the end, but when compiled they were not free in the billing.

 

There not really free they just discount the rest of the system to make it out to be free in the end...

 

farting noises? i guess you guys talking about the fan when it kicks on all m17x do that is the fan going from 0 rpm to maybe 100 rpm at lease

 

In any case, their promotion is very confusing. They do offer free tactx mouse and tactx headset, but it seems to be out of stock right now. I talked to one of their incomptent live chat agent. She told me that it may be out of stock. How could I believe such as a bull. They make a promotion without predict the availability of their products. This is just ridiculous.

 

Most folks I've talked to seem to feel the same way:

The Dell buying experience is a horror story of anger, disappointment, and utter incompetence with their staff. However in the end you get the best laptop money can buy and you love the hell out of it. = )

 

I honestly think that is some sort of fan check when the machine starts because its so aggressive .. Sounds like your starting up a car ..

edit: Ha , great , now TactX headset and mouse are now delayed till 12/17/2009, and it's original ETA was 11/25/2009 .... this is hilarious , first the system itself (4 times) and now this ??? ... lol

 

Try returning something. My record was 10 transfers which ended up getting disconnected followed by a call back and 6 more transfers.

i have my m17x since august and they didn't send my free windows upgrade coupon i call them and they place an order is in processing status for two months the order didn't ships yet buy my friend give me a free copy of w7 enterprise i don't worry about the other one i think dell is bad for promotions

Hello, everyone. I ordered my m17x 3 days ago, and now I want to cancel this order. Because I want to change my graphic card to ati crossfire dual 4870 HD. Also I must customize with the special nebula red version(starting price $1999) in order to save $200.

At the moment the order status is in production. So I want to know is it still possible to cancel my order and make a new one? If yes, what should I say when I will call? What number should I call?

They have given me trouble trying to cancel my original order with it being "in production".

I have no doubt it is a scam. Both my orders moved very quickly to that stage, yet sit in it forever without progress. Either way you can return it once it ships to your place, but it is a major inconvenience.

 

My new ETA is 01/01/10. Can i get a rep+ for having this special date? If the new refresh happens in that month(i7 + dual gpu) then it is going back, If i7 + single gpu, i'll keep my original order.

 

Dont worry Rengsey as nothing will be happening by 01/01/2010... We might hear some announcement by february or march..

 

there is be no point of having an i7 single gpu.

 

this computer EATS games. Gta IV runs like an absolute dream.. I'm actually playing it now after having it fail horribly on my M1730 when i first got it. Playing with high settings at 1900x1200 and these ATI's are giving me a treat

If your primary concern is gaming, it handles gaming with dual core just fine

 

Just sharing my experience so far: I originally ordered on 10/23 with EDD on 11/13. Then on the first week of November I got delayed until 11/20 then my order was canceled and reordered like some of the others in this thread but they messed up the payment on my card. So I canceled that one and reordered and got the university discount and free mouse + headphones, though for some reason I only got the headphones... That was on 11/13 and now I'm still in order processing which turns out (after going through 6 different call transfers) its on hold because they ignored my daily limit I specified and overcharged my card. At least that should be straightened out now and I followed the advice of others hear and called in to place my order this time so I have a contact in Team Blackhawk. My new EDD is 12/8 but somehow I think there will be a delay there since it's not even in production yet.
