*OFFICIAL* M17x Order Status Thread...*PART 2*

^Yea, I know the feeling. But you'll get it eventually and you'll love it

 

Dell still shows a shipdate of 10/12, however when I call the number (from the first post) it says it's still in "build" phase. Wonder if it really is there, and maybe it has secretly gone all the way through the other phases, then will just show as shipped tomorrow? Anyone else had that happen? Getting antsy now.

 

Production - Build Stage, ETA: Unknown.

 

Day 15 "pre-production". How long to they expect me to wait?

 

Dell it seems was unprepared for this release? I wonder how many people have called to cancel or at the very least let them know of their dissatisfaction? LOL those cards better be good!

 

The estimated delivery date hasn't past yet so it's hard to complain.

 

if I wouldnt have cencaled, my ETA would have been on 10/16. I honestly wonder if they would have made that date?

 

Is Production status better than Pre-Production Status?

Yes. Does it say that on the web or phone? My says In Production on the web but that won't change until it's shipped.

 

Slightly off the topic, but in case someone else has canceled his/her system, like I did and plans re-ordering, I thought you guys would like to know that DELL will pre-install Windows 7 on all the orders placed on or after October 18th. So, in case you were waiting for the 22nd there is no reason for that anymore.

 

What did you tell them when you said you wanted to cancel?

 

^ That they are full of BS, their service and information sources suck big time, that Louisiana based sales team is a noob-camp in terms of the technical data, and finally that in their company one arm doesn't know what other does ...


On a more serious note, just told them that: 1. It is way to much confusion with RAID 0 - ATI 4870s CF options when selected together and that 2,5 weeks later no one still doesn't have any reasonable explanation on WTH is going on with that, 2. I decided to have Win 7 already up and running when I'll get my system and be a bit more "troubles" free, 3. Spending around $4000 on their system I was hoping for a better overall experience.

DELL can have my money when they are ready to make the business right ! I totally can expect and understand all the delays, but when the explanation and service are right.

P.S. in case someone wonders - I did get my re-fund on the same day

 

On the web it is in production status. Its just weird that I ordered the same day, and at the same time it is in production status already. I will call when i get home to check the other route.

 

Try going to order status section @ Dell.com/support > once you'll click on your order number I bet it will kick you further down to a new page on which you'll see "Pre - production"

 

Mine actually says "Work in Progress"

Tried emailing customer support team, asking them to give me a real status. I knew I would get a textbook answer, basically pasted from the website. I was just hoping against hope I would get an intelligible response.

In the meantime, ordered a few parts from Newegg to piece together my desktop. Not having a computer is brutal.

 

Thanks for the tip. im sure this will be easier for some people who wont have to install the OS themselves. By chance, did the sales rep tell you this?

 

Hi Kryp, np ! Yeah, that was some very helpful sales team member from their other sales dept. located in Austin,TX. As per him, Microsoft has given them a "green light" on taking orders with Win 7 based configured machines as of 10.18.09. I've noticed that their sales dudes that are located in Austin are more knowledgeable and informative than others.

I see, thanks for the info! I wonder if anyones 4870 M17x is close to shipping yet? if I would have kept my order, it would have supposedly shipped on the 15th. I might wait till next week to place another order since Win 7 will already be installed on the system. I just hope Dell will have updated Win 7 drivers for the M17x when they start shipping out. Dont wanna worry about those headaches.

Well , that's what I'm doing, will re-order first thing in the morning on the 18th. Oh, Kryp, has your sales rep ever contacted you and stated that they were willing to do "something" for you just to have your order back !?

 

Would you pm it to me Digital1337? If my order gets delayed I'll try to squeeze Dell for some goodies. Calling and emailing India is a joke, pretty sure they paste answers right off the website.

 

Well, last Friday, I talked to the person I have been dealing with and voiced my displeasure (in a very nice and calm way) with this whole process. I then said something to the effect like "man, that nebula red looks good would have liked to have gotton it" he told me that he would be willing to give it to me for free but that I would have to cancel my order and then re-order. Dell is now offering 18 months no interest over last months 12 months no interest. So based on that and the color, I canceled my order. Not a big freebie, but still nice to me. Besdies, he was already giving me what I thought was a decent deal anyway. So, thats my story, so far. What about you?

sure, already got it ! When you and if you will be cancelling it, just get to the order cancellation department. They'll ask you what's the reason for your cancelation (I told them that they had horrible customer service approach, didn't know #@%$ in terms of what was happening within their own company and that I ,overall, was a very unsatisfied customer). But, make sure they credit your account correctly afterward. Not only I had to call my bank to ask them to terminate the pending transaction I was having with dell, but I also found that those idiots charged me twice (!!!!)

 

The Relashonship manager im dealing with is in india. Am tempted to try that sales dept you mentioned digital, but I wanna stick with what I know I already have rather then take a risk and deal with someone else who might give me less. Appreciate the tip though digital

 

Yeah thanks a bunch man. Sent off an email to that guy, I'll post what he says. Technically they aren't late yet, but the phone # still says it's in the "build" stage, but should arrive by the 14th? I call shenanigans.

 

Nice !!! Was told that Alien's TACTX headset would be included with my system's, company's courtesy, my previous financial deal will be up-held, free next day delivery and that they "will take of me in a best way possible" (what ever the heck that suppose to mean :/ ). Oh yeah, 18 months financing is there too. All in all I'm pretty happy with what I got out of them too, it's just only that single fact of unexplained/unknown delay factor and my issue with RAID 0 (that made me re-order the system twice already) what really makes me mad about this situation. This is my 2nd time in my life when I'm buying a gaming laptop and my second time running into a massive delay.

LOL, all these delays, its like a bad comedy. Like you, I was also given next day delivery as a "courtesy" I sure hope these 4870s are worth all these delays! Wouldnt be happy if they ended up not being as good as the cheaper 280s.

 

Here's an email I got from an inside sales rep from where I work. I emailed him, not knowing if we was even allowed to answer questions on the home sales side of Dell or not:

"I took a look at the order and I believe it is going to be delayed unless manufacturing pulls off a miracle. I still show the system in production without a mfg stage associated with it so it does not appear that it has started the build stage. Once they start the build stage it generally only takes them a day or two to complete the build. After they build it they have to ship it to you. If they start the build today or tomorrow, you could have the system by the end of the week. I believe they will start the build later this week and you should have it next week but it appears that they are waiting for a part but what part I don’t know. Let me know if I can do anything else for you."

? I don't even have extravagant parts? Seems to be pretty standard MO for Dell though. We're out of a part? Oh well, just wait and don't say anything to the customer.

Edited: Thanks to Sleey0 order tracking on first post, I was able to find my status. So my status is " BUILD STAGE ".

WOw , ordered it on 10/09/09 and now it is in Build Stage !!!!

 

Got an email back from Digital1337's guy:

"Sorry man since I didn’t place the order and I am not your sales rep I have no way of seeing the actual status or even able to expedite it like I can on my orders…"

Guess I should have gone through a rep than the website. Now we wait...

is the system builder preliminary ship date estimate pretty accurate? thats the only thing i got to go on since i cant access the order page for the m17x i got coming to me. was told my order information was sent to dell on sept 24th so id think they got it maybe 2 days after that.

yay, my order went into build status today also!!! Shouldn't be too long now!! Can't wait to see how the ATI's are going to work out.....

 

Question for the folks who have ordered the 4870 (escpecially for the dual 4870s) What if it turns out that they dont bench or stack up as well as the 280s. Will you send your system back for an exchange? I know on paper they should be faster/better then the 280s. Unfortunately, no one has them yet to back that up.

 

Depends how bad it is. I'm not sleey0 but I'm not afraid to send it back.
