Yeah pretty much, I was just keeping the original one so I could play with it early and then send it back. Guess this just means I gotta wait longer before getting oneI'll live vicariously through you and others once (if) your orders arrive on time.

Well my replacement m17x, is still in the production stage, but I keep getting these automated calls from dell saying shipping may be delayed1-2 days due to weather.
I emailed my rep/support guy to see if he could get some more updates. I better have it by the end of the week! -
I feel the same way you do Joker, why put it up if you can't even meet a strong initial rush of orders? This is my first experience with 1) buying any computer pre-made for myself, and 2) buying a laptop. The m15x got here so quick, I figured the m17x might take six days at most... I cannot imagine waiting months to get something I ordered online unless it was a stated pre-order. For every day late they should knock .5 % off the price : )
Checked again tonight btw, still in build....
BTW, someone mentioned checking after 7:00 PM for order updates, does the webpage for the order get updated as well then or just in the system if you call in? Also, is that time for EST or PST? -
Just Ordered... figured Id stop haunting Mandrake for his systems and just grab one new.

Ive heard the name, Dellienware and that sums it up. I get it financed for free if paid off in 18 months, so for me, its a no brainer!!
However, I drove a hard bargain; after configuring the system, I told the sales guy, I want you to throw in ADOBE READER & Automatic Updates: turned On or the deal is off!!
Yeah, they folded to my demands...
On a serious note: I'm thinking about getting the Alienware Orion Laptop Backpack, because Ive heard good things about the quality, and my current backpack is only good for a 15 so since I will need one.
Any thoughts on my conf, or the Backpack for the people that have been here long enough to know?
Thanks - Chris "Mosie" -
Just a quick update. After only nine days (that's including basic ground shipping [1-7 day]) I have my new m17x r1!

M17x-R2 Replacement ordered 2010-03-03, EDD is 2010-04-21. The tech person phoned the factory and apparently the Radeon 4870 Crossfire video cards are out of stock until the end of march/early april which is causing the delay. Oh well.

I finally took the Alienware plunge after about a year of debate. Soooo excited I can hardly stand it!

Well it is time to quit lurking. I have been reading the Alienware thread for about 2 months now. I was inspired to start researching gaming laptops after I found out that I was going to be deployed for about a year several months ago. Normally I am desktop err.. scratch that... rackmount type of guy and build all my own stuff.
But since I cannot just go buy the components that I would want in a laptop, I am confined by what is available by manufactures. Oh well. I was really holding off until the last possible minute to order as that I was really hoping that AW would perchance upgrade the GPU that they are currently offering.
I had read a number of rumors that they may be doing it in late March early April... or not for six months. But as that I don't have that kind of time, I had to bite the bullet and pull the trigger. I think that AlienWare makes some of the coolest laptops out there, and I will certainly be the envy of my buddies while on deployment.
Anyway this is my first post from hanging around in the shadows for quite a bit. I am looking forward to taking it with me halfway across the world. Thinking about how heavy it is, it should come with wheels & a travel handle / cart. I'll find some other gear to toss out...
Anyway this is my configuration:
Lunar Silver - Anodized Aluminum
Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
17-inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 RGB LED (1200p)
Dual 1GB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4870 in CrossfireX
1TB Raid 0 (2x 500GB 7,200RPM HDDs)
Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit, English
Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Burner (BR-R, DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
Intel Ultimate N WiFi Link 6300 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO Technology
That's it!
Ordered on 03/12/2010
EDD 04/14/2010
Cheers!
