Well, at 23 inch, i think we depart from the notebook concept, and start to dwell in the new category of BLACKBOARD computers.... perhaps the lid can be used as a blackbaord for office presentations![]()

By the way i have refrained for posting for a ;long time... sicne sept 24 (whne my replacement order was placed)... and yes, I till dont have my lappy (but at least on the phone trackign system is hows as boxing stage since yesterday). Anyways, i will post later my theories on the delay... but basically speaking its either:

Ok. So now my rep sale told me that my order has been shipped. Here is what he told:
Your order is already shipped and in transit stage (5484- IN TRANSIT TO US)
Since it is manually expedited we can see it on our tool, I am not authorize to send this. Because I want you to believe me I am sending this.
Here is the attachment in his email:
http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/41219718@N05/4035845872/sizes/o/
However when I check my order via automated phone service it told me my order is in boxing stage.
So does IN TRANSIT TO USA mean IN BOXING STAGE? If not then which one is better? If IN TRANSIT TO USA is better then does it mean it has been shipped or it just means that they are transferring my M17x to the U.S to complete stuff like LED color, wallpapers etc...
Besides, do you guys think I'm gonna get the Windows 7 preloaded or just Vista? -
Digital1337 Notebook Evangelist
^ they are manufactured in the US (Florida, Miami I believe).
Hey, Silly, whats your zip ? -
Actually they are manufactured in China and if your currently in boxing it's being shipped from there to here.
-
Digital1337 Notebook Evangelist
are they ?! hmmm , I was thinking that Alienware notebooks are being made in the US
-
Boxing: This stage is misleading. The automated support line will tell you this is when you are being prepared to ship. In reality, more is happening. Usually your laptop was built outside of the US in Malaysia or somewhere similar. In the boxing stage, your completed laptop is boxed up in a smaller box, then taken to an airport where it is shipped to the US where it can then be boxed up with your accessories and shipped. Generally this stage takes AT LEAST 3 days. Reports lately have said four days is normal, mine actually shipped in 3.5 days of "boxing". Some customers have reported being stuck in the boxing stage for weeks. Other customers have called dell, asked a rep, and found out that their laptops weren't even in the "boxing" stage at all even though the automated line says they were (see note). It has been suggested as well <by surfasb 8/15/07> that your laptop could be sitting on a pallet waiting for enough pallets to be filled to justify a plane ride to the USA. With the recent shortage in parts, this may be the very thing that is delaying your shipment. It is obvious that this stage is the most vague of them all. How long you will be in the "boxing" stage seems to be undeterminable at this point. If your luck holds, it won't be more than 3-4 days. Even though this stage seems the longest, it usually means that your laptop is built, and in a box on a pallet somewhere. You can breathe easier that all your parts are installed at this point and it is only travel time that is ahead of you. -

I sent my rep sale a separated email just to make sure he know what to put on my M17x on the very first day but I'm still afraid... I don't see any part that has engraving details in my on-web order detail but there is one in the confirmation email right after I ordered.

^ what I was told by Dell is that you also get one "empty blank" name plate, just in case
@SillyHoney
it says that its : ALIENFX RED ! Is this is the one you've picked ? -
On my quote page it has "KAL-EL" clearly listed on the very bottom. Now of course thats still no guarantee that somewhere along the "assembly line" someone wont screw it up
-
It'll end up saying Clark Kent.
-
SillyHoney Headphone Enthusiast
Mine is All Powerful M17x. I don't see that part in my order status but I do see it in the very bottom line in my confirmation email.
And if you are right about the Empty blank name plate then damn it! I should put my real name on it instead of a nonsense All Powerful M17x

Does the name plate suppose to be all Capitalize? Cause I requested only the first letter to be capitalize, but everything came capitalize.
-
Digital1337 Notebook Evangelist
yeah , that's how they do it
-
SillyHoney Headphone Enthusiast
I called my saleman asking about engraving nameplate. He swore to God that everything will go just fine and I don't need to be worried about it. I also push him to get my lappy loaded with Windows 7 and he told me he contacted production team to get it done. He is a good boy I believe

Maybe we should change this to the "why-everyone-hates-Dell" thread. I would say that I should just man up and build my own DT, but I was just reading a thread about a guy who has been waiting weeks for his NB and SB waterblocks (not from Dell).
In the mean time, its time to figure out how to OC my xBox. -

OK guys I had to finally post:
This was ordered 9/29/2009, and even the additional battery was delayed and promised late to the point of needing approval before the FTC booted Dell:

Subject: Re: Dell Support Request: Status of my order xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Dear Impatient,
Thank you for contacting Dell Online Customer Care.
I understand from your e-mail that you wish to get the updated status for your order number xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and know the reason for the delay. I do apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Your order number xxxxxxxxxxxx is currently in production and has an estimated delivery date of 11/02/2009. I have checked the details and see that the 17 inch LCD screen, CrossFireX - Dual 1GB GDDR5 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 and the 256GB Solid State Drive is currently backordered. Every effort is being made to complete the order and ship it as soon as possible.
The estimated delivery date you received when you placed your order was based on the most up to date information we had at that time. Occassionally a delay can occur because the product you have chosen or one of our offers is exceptionally popular. Once your order ships you will receive an "Order Shipped" email with the required delivery information for your order.
So, please check your e-mail regularly (including "Junk" and "Spam" mail folders).
Remember, you can check the progress of your order any time by clicking the link below and entering your Order number & Customer number.

... but I agree, I am just inpatient as always... -

They actually named the same items that shows up as delaying your order when you go through the order config page.

The 18 months no interest promo ends next week so I decided to place an order a few minutes ago. Now the waiting begins......
-
So if the tech in India tells me the ATI cards are going to be GDDR5 is that reaffirmation as to what I had ordered will not show up as GDDR3?
-
well, just got my official delay email from dell....my original order date was 9/29 and edd was 10/28 now it has been bumped to nov 4th! Maybe I will have it for thanksgiving! Anyone else get bumped lately?
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
I heard that some of the invoice you guys have for the order of the m17x with the ATis has been modified to not say GDDR5 right? Well, It's just wrong that I've received my unit already , and then to go back and check the invoice online to find out that Dell modified my invoice too, so it does not say GDDR5 on the ATis anymore.
Isn't that a " genuine " proof of bait and switch? -
I really hope these are not GDDR3 cards! ? i don't understand this! is this illegal?
They are going in and changing the specs from what you ordered! what is going on?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Digital1337 Notebook Evangelist
Well, the very first invoice that was e-mailed to you just right after you placed your order should still indicate DDR5, but it won't make any difference, as they have been DDR3 GPUs from the day one.
-
THey are not changing the spec, just taking back the lie...
-
SillyHoney Headphone Enthusiast
So to make it clear: Everyone who ordered 4870 JUST because of its GDDR5 now end up with a GDDR3 which performance is not really great at all as someone here has post his Vantage result.
So are any of you gonna sue Dell yet? -
No point in suing. If you don't want it return it and if your order is still in production just cancel it.
-
-
SillyHoney Headphone Enthusiast
Err... I couldn't remember his score but it's kinda lower than GTX 280 SLI, I'm not sure. But we can't tell because we may need more ppl to benchmark it before giving out conclusion.

Has anyone recieved and M17x with Windows 7 yet? (from the dealer?)
