As everyone else mentioned, your best bet might be to call the Escalations department, and threaten to cancel your order. Chances are, you might not even actually have to do it.
The mere implication that Alienware is going to lose a commissioned order is generally enough to send them into hyper-speed mode with your order.

My EDD is still too far from today but I wonder if I got delayed eventually, then I contact Escalator Dept then complain etc... What if all they give me is a confirmation: Your order has been cancelled
instead of further discount or freebies or giftcard etc... If this does happen then I think I better wait for few more days rather than having to order again. I have been living without personal computer for 2 weeks and I'm sick of it

Escalation would be a good idea if you were in Mandrake's position. Dell is not really doing anything shady. Dell do give extended lead time on orders to cover themselve just incase anything goes wrong.
My suggestion is very simple, which I took to expedite my order. All you have to do is send CS (Returns Department) an email and asking them to expedite the order, and give a valid reason why, and make it professional. The CS in returns are frontline employees that has to do what it takes to satisfy the customer in order to save a sale and keep the business.
It will be a total of 13 days including tommorrow for my m17x to be at my door step. -

I just got an update on my order and it has been delayed to an EDD of Oct 29th. I'm not really sure what component would have caused the delay though.
I may call escalations or send CS an email like you guys suggested. It really can't hurt since I've waited 18 days already (13 working days)

I ordered mine 01 OCT 09 and my EDD has been 29 OCT 09 from the start. Thats only a week away, and I havent recieved any delay messages yet. I am crossing my fingers that I dont get any. I think 1 month should be more than enough to get my laptop to me and if it takes longer than that I am probably going to yell at someone over at Dell/Alienware.

all my source could tell me (or all he was told) is there are actual manufacturing delays. he said it is not the ati cards per say it is actual parts for the system he was told they did not expect it to be as widely popular as it has become and they did not have the backed up stock to keep up. remember minus the cards the rest is the same setup. he said he was told not to blame ati for the wait. he will call me with any new updates he has and the people he asked in the upper offices will keep him posted they told him

I had a brief amount of time to call during lunch. I tried to get to escalations but wasn't successful. Maybe I wasn't rude enough, she said all they would do is tell me the same thing. She was more than willing to put in a cancellation request when I mentioned I wanted to cancel, almost too willing. I might try to get escalations tonight when I have more time to argue unless someone can conjure up their direct line. At this point I might just cancel anyway and phone in my order rather than do it online.
Oh and when I asked for the reason for the delay I got "due to the high demand of the system you are ordering..." to which I responded, "Then why do I know for a fact that people have ordered after me and already received their systems?" In response I got "I'm sorry sir, I understand your concern, blah blah..." -
Same specs as yours. I tried calling the MD Game Fuel hotline, but it's been deactivated. I've sent an email to a Pepsi Customer Representative to see if they can find out the reason for our hardware discrepancies compared to previous winners.

the only indication of it being still on the record it's when I log in into my Dell account @ Dell.com and even then it shows that it's "work in progress" ... hmmmm -

I'm awaiting a system replacement M17x. I was able to negotiate to the Crossfire cards. My order has been in-production for nearly 8 days, I got a call from my supervisor who said it's looking like it will not ship until the first week of November.
I sure hope the delay will result in correction to GDDR5. -

I emailed my rep sale 5 days ago. He said he expedited my order and I will get it by Oct 22-23. I don't know if he was talking about Shipping date or EDD but it doesn't really matter. Then I asked him to put Windows 7 on it first before ship it to me. He said he will do his best upon my request right on Monday and promised to KEEP ME UPDATED! Well, I believe UPDATED in his vocabulary mean NO REPLY because I tried contact him by email several times but heard nothing since then

I would blame this all on Delll, but the same thing happened when I ordered my last laptop which was an HP. I never even got an updated EDD, I just didn't recieve it for like 2 weeks after the EDD had passed. I even called and they just told me "we'll check..." but I never did get an answer until I recieved it. Seems to me that with computers/laptops becoming so essential and ubiquitous, customer service is not a priority because their products will sell anyway. And they know that the brick and mortar stores customer service is great and will sell their products for them.
In fact, I have thought about ordering a few more things, but I think I might just compromise and see what I can get from Best Buy to avoid this situation again. Then if neccessary upgrade myself. Of note: People that order from the Japanese companies like Sony do not have nearly as many complaints as with the American companies. (I am American, BTW.) Automobiles, electronics, and if they started making decent guns they would completely own the American consumer. -

Update on my order: I just canceled the order, which seemed to be the one thing that was easy and they were willing to do. I don't think I was assertive enough to get anything else done. I then reordered using information I learned off this thread. I realized that I could use my wife's student status to get a 7% discount through the university. In addition I got the 3% using my preferred account. I also got 18 months 0% instead of 12. Win 7 will be installed instead of Vista. I ordered using a phone order instead of online. There were a couple of benefits to this. I was able to haggle an upgrade and further discount. I also got an EDD of Nov 5th which is a 2 week timeframe.
So in the end I was able to go from 1066MHz to 1333MHz memory, from 260M SLI to 280M SLI, 320GB HD to 1TB HD but sacrificing the processor from T9600 to P8600 (which I can upgrade later), for the same price and only 1 week more EDD. I checked the status and it's in the build stage which is where the 1st order was in. I'll keep an update but I'm hoping to confirm phone orders do take priority. -

problem is that i placed my order for M17X wirh ATI CF 4870 DDR5 memory based card (according to my invoice at least) and now I see on your web-site configurator that DDR5 listing is gone. Also, according to some forums people who start getting their systems are reporting that those are not DDR5 based video chips , but rather DDR3.

Well Platu, its good to be able to speak with a specific rep instead of talking to a new person everytime you call. it also makes it much more personable. Like you, I was able to get the red color added for free with some other stuff. The rep worked with me and was curtious.
