How do you deal with obsessively checking the order status page? It's been 8 days since my order was put in and I still have 12 days to go before my EDD. Dell's Order Status page has quickly risen to the most visited site in firefox and thus the first entry that shows up why i type HTTP. Argh!!!

Sorry is this order status or order status Group Therapy?

What is this autocontrast feature you're talking about btw mandrake?

Contrast will change based on what is displayed on the screen. Some notice it and really hate it while other never notice it. Took me a couple months to notice it.

Original Red but I changed to rainbow style now. I played game for a while. So far: STUTTER FREE!!! Crysis demo play at 1920x1080, all very high except 2 important options at high (I forgot it) and FPS is around 28-36. My nameplate is also correct. Haha!
Edit: About the Nebula Red, its sooo perfect! My friends were driven crazy when they saw the Red (They are all MacBook Pro Alu users :p) I will post some pics definitely :D

^^ I don't see any effect of a so called dual bulb. I have never put Crysis option that far in my life but it doesnt look brilliant because of the screen. I dont want to buy an external monitor because I want to look at and feel my AW. Oh god!!! Maybe I will get used to that. Maybe I was too used to my MBP screen.

Yeah i had a 15inch unibody MBP for a month and the screen was amazing.. Totally different league really then the M17x..

As for the Dual Bulb effect.. open My Computer IE an all white background and its super bright.. then when you close that and go back to a dark color there go's the brightness along with it .. If the screen could stay bright all the time it would be an amazing screen... But it cant.. :(...

People are already telling me "Yeah man, you have to buy yourself a nice external monitor when your M17x arrives" im sure that would be nice but why would I spend even more coin after already spending a ton of $$$$$ for a system with a pretty good high rez panel to begin with?

Because some people dont mind the auto dimming(contrasting) effect and others do alot (me) .. So just wait till you get it to decide.. If im buying a laptop to hook up to an external monitor ill just use my desktop :D..

Good point Quad, I guess im having trouble rationalizing paying hundreds more for a decent monitor after already spending thousands for a super high end gaming laptop. I guess ill have to wait till my system arrives and and put it through its paces.

Re: The external monitor discussion, I just bought a Samsung 32inch HD TV with HDMI that I plan on hooking up my M17x to for movies and gamepad-type games. For FPS i'll use the built in monitor. Don't feel bad about using external peripherals with your laptop. In some games you will be more precise with a full keyboard and a proper external monitor. I personally went desktop replacement because I am living abroad and like the portability of my system to be always available.

Re: Order status (this thread title) - nice surprise - my system shipped today! Well, UPS got billing info recieved, and dell sent me an email stating

*Phase 5 Delivery Your order is in this phase.
Ink cartridges and other small items are sent by post*

A few questions if someone can help:
    1. Why are UK orders using UPS. Is this system coming from the USA? I can't see shipping origin in the tracking system yet. Looks like UPS only has billing info recieved.

    2. I have a tracking number but UPS' website says shipped 02/11/2009 (which is Monday!) why would Dell tell me Its been shipped and UPS says its shipped monday?

    3. For those of you who had their M17x sent out as a system replacement for an M1730, did the replacement come with the standard Alienware packaging or was it just a basic system in the basic box. Cheers

With an order date of 20/10/2009, and a shipping date of 29/10/2009 I really cannot complain, looks like i'll have my hands on it early next week at the latest, 1 week ahead of schedule. My dell rep said he would expedite this system replacement and I guess he was not lying! I'm real excited to get my hands on the crossfire cards.. saying good bye to my buggy Nvidia GPUs :O)

    JUST A LITTLE WHILE LONGER!!

    Hi!

I got my order shipped today!
Im basicly in the same situation as Nickbarbar, got some kind of tracking number from UPS but it wont show on the UPS page.
The delivery date was stated as 2009-11-19 at the latest so i sent a mail to our sales rep at Dell Sweden and asked if it would take that long to get it delivered, he answered back that i cannot do anything to affect the delivery date but i should have it next week.
Can't wait to fire up the ATI cards and see how it all runs!

    Here's my spec:
    Alienware M17x : Base Space Black 210-27828
    Processor : Intel Core 2 Quad Q9100(2.26GHz,1066MHz,12MB L2 Cache) 213-10556
    Display : 17in Wide UXGA (1920X1200) - Beyond HD (1200p) 230-10776
    Memory : 4096MB (2x2048) 1067MHz DDR3 Dual Channel 370-13958
Hard Drive : 256GB Solid State Hard Drive 400-15776

    Congrats Nick & Toidi!

In response to your question, yes, my M17x had the nice AW packaging. They wanted me to ship my M1730 back to them using the AW box, sorry Dell, no dice. Sent the M1730 back in its original box.

    Have fun when it arrives!

Actually Quadzilla this is how the memory listing was in my case:
Built my config on the Swedish Dell site where i chose the Crossfire config which was labeled DDR5 on the site.
Sent the build to our Dell sales rep with the question if i could order it with 256Gb SSD as this was not available on the site.
He came back with the spec and asked me to doublecheck it now including a 256GB SSD. On that spec the listing was DDR3, I questioned the memory and he replied that it was indeed DDR3 and not DDR5 memory.
I though what the heck and told him to go ahead with the order.
So basicly I built the system with ATI DDR5 memory but my order was for DDR3 as there where no other option.
Dell has obviously has no DDR5 memory equipped ATI cards allthough you could order them.
Im sure that it will be enough power anyway but it's still a letdown for everyone and im sure Dell will somehow compensate people who have ordered DDR5 memory.

I figured since I've been watching this thread for almost 2 weeks now I might as well start posting. I ordered my M17x back on 10/17/2009 with a EDD of 11/10/2009. Nothing really special since this is a replacement for my now 4yr old Inspiron 9300, just upped the CPU to the Core 2 2.53GHz, HDD to 320GB (I'll add another one later), and the screen to the 1920x1200 since that's what my 9300 has. Still in the "build phase" as of 10min ago when I called. Waiting for this is a pain, lol.

Well, I have been watching and reading these forums for the past week or so. I ordered my M17x on 10/21. I've always wanted an Alienware, so *hopefully* I'll have two on 11/11. :)

Yeah, two... Dell messed up and ordered two of them for me, woo. I couldn't cancel without paying the "restocking fee" so I'm going to sell the second one to my mom.

Looking forward to owning my first Alienware. :D

Will be a replacement for my Toshiba Qosmio X305-711. Programming classes made it not like me so much.

    Q9000; 2x GTX 260m - SLi enabled; standard screen; 320GB HD (Big enough for me, I have a 1.5TB external :p); 4GB DDR3; Silver

The problem was the 4870s are overpriced and if I had to wait into November I might as well wait for Black Friday. I'm still undecided on what I'm going to do. I just need something to last me a year until Sandy Bridge comes out.

Status update: 8 days in productions. Still in the build stage.
Although I got a little excited one of the times I checked the status and it said shipped to regional carrier... then I heard 2007... I then realized I must have typed my order number wrong :p

I've been reading the boards for awhile and never posted/registered. Thought I'd post my status.

    Order: 10/16/09 (online)
    EDD : 11/12/09
    Currently "In Production"

I am going to be in vegas for a business trip and wanted my machine before then (11/8). So, I called order modification department and asked for my order to be expedited. They put in the request and said I'd have to call back the next day to get the response. I did that and they said my request was accepted and said I needed it before the 6th of November. They put that in the date requested, but I think that meant the date the order needs to ship. Ground shipping means I'll get it no early then the original date. So, I called back and asked them to move up earlier, they said they couldn't. I asked for overnight shipping then, they said no, the order is already in process and can't be modified. For f$ck sake... I can't believe a company would not want more money from me for shipping faster. Sometimes customer services are never customer friendly or logical. Screw dell (the company) but I like the alienware stuff.

    The wait continues...

Oh... I did buy one of those Alienware Orion messenger bags with it... I've had about a week now... it's a nice bag for anyone who was wanting to get one. Lots of pockets for gadget goodies. Well made, designed...it's a bit big though.

My M17x order still is in "Order Processing" for 7 days now. I think I might have a part or two that is backordered.

Is the Messenger Bag really nice? The one I'm using for my 9300 will work since it's huge, but I want a new one and I have been looking at this one as a replacement.

Well in my opinion it is, its nearly as flashy as the last Alienware bag was. Thats a plus for me.

As per my rep my order finally says it should ship tonight or tomorrow am..He sent me a screen shot like Sillyhoney (he is actually the same rep). So maybe I will have it for this weekend! What a ridiculous wait!! It has felt like the alienware of old....months would go by in phase 2! And, I have the pleasure of fighting over the whole ddr3/5 thing after I get it! Can't wait for that fun! Well, I just thought I would share...
