As I recall, I also had a Friday ship date. The weekend was horribly long. I called FedEx and had them hold it @ the local main (only about 10 min of drive time). Took the day off and picked it up as soon as they opened Monday AM.

Lol nice one batboy!! Personally I'm an American living abroad in London so I will just let the system do its thing - they will deliver it as soon as its in the area I have no doubt about it. From my experience with the M1730 the day they email you is the day you get it, period. They told me I'm getting it on Wednesday - even if they could deliver it sooner I believe Dell sets the date with their carrier and your warranty begins on the delivery date, which is the main reason why you wont get it earlier even if its sitting in a warehouse. Wherever it is now or on Monday will probably be Ireland - pretty much as soon as it hits English land it will be delivered to London because the shipping routes are so fast around here (tiny cold island FTW)

    Mine shipped today!

    Order Date: 10/8/2009
    Estimated Delivery Date: 11/2/2009 (updated)

    (Original EDD: 10/26/2009)

Very basic specs. The only thing I spent extra money on is the 256GB SSD.

(and some accessories like a Razer mouse, backpack, and the free headphones from that promotion last month)

Now I have to wait until Nov 7 till I'm back in Chicago to play with it...

A nice gesture, but I'm afraid my girlfriend has already offered to do that for me ;)

She also said something about putting her favorite Internet cat as my background because she's not too happy about Mila Kunis on my old machine...

How long does an order stay in "Order Processing"? It has been a week. I called and they said everything was fine with the payment.

One of my friends there suspects it may be a part on order issue and will go into production next week.

Doesn't sound right to me, I ordered online and I put $2k on my preferred account and split the rest on a credit card, it was in order processing for about 20-30 minutes I guess, then went to In Production. Reading their legend for the status terms, Order Processing is all about payment verification. In Production is after payment is approved/accepted, its off to manufacturing. But, if you talked to Dell and they said everything is fine, it might just be a database error. *shrug* I feel your wait pain.

Maybe they heard me talking about them, the order status changed between my last post and this post and shows as work in progress. My EDD of Nov 24th stayed the same, so I will chalk it up to internet gremlins.

    I just ordered a sweet M6400 with an FX3700 for work...not mine though :(
While I was on the phone with my Dell rep, he gave me the EDD for the M6400 and said don't get mad at me when you hear the EDD... which was roughly the same 3 week wait as my M17x.

I mentioned to him that I just ordered the M17x, he laughed and he said then you're familiar with the wait and why it's taking so long. He said they've had alot of orders lately and they were having part shortages on motherboards and cpus. I'm sure that the 0% interest promo going on got alot of people to buy especially before the holidays.

No delay yet... 6 days until it ships (if I'm lucky).

I may call FedEx and have them hold it at a store so I can pick it up there since I won't be home on the EDD. Is FedEx usually willing to do this or can family sign for it?

I belive if a family member is home, they can sign for it. im in a similar type situation. I work during Fed-Ex delivery hours and will most likely have to call and ask them to hold for me to pick up.

A week after i ordered, it still wasnt in production, so i jumped on the csr's for a reason, they said "a compatability issue" to which i wanted further clarification "processor shortage", DELL csr's, singapore fail.

Apparently its being built tomorrow, better hope so, my browser is going to die from orderstatus overload.

After agonizing over this decision for the past week I decided to reorder. The sad thing is my EDD is only a week later than my last order. I have emailed my resolution specialist and asked them to expedite and upgrade the shipping for me. The biggest difference with this order is I did not get the SSDs. I expected Samsung/Dell to release a firmware upgrade by now for GC and since they have not I will be shopping third party for my SSDs. The waiting starts once again...

Yeah I noticed the EDD's have been shortened to 2 weeks now. I'm also getting my machine after 2 weeks.

Looks like we're going to have a whole bunch of ATI M17x's to test on when we get them. I'm going to be rocking the dual core overclocked like mad so I'll be interested to see how I can compete with you guys :p maybe my SSD will make up for lack of Quad core :)

Recieving my laptop after WEEKS of patience with Alienware and MONTHS with dell.. Everything will come together on Wednesday, except for work on Thursday, for which I might be sick :p

Now I'm in the build stage already. No 2 weeks sitting in pre-production like last time. Maybe not getting the SSDs will make it go faster.

That's a wise move, I'd never buy a specialist component like an SSD from Dell.

Just reading "SSD" on the order configuration page leaves you with absolutely no clue as to which SSD you're getting. With so many options and high risks associated with not getting the one you want.. As well as probably getting a terrible price for it, I think you made the right move :)

Actually because I know which one I would get from Dell is the reason for not ordering them. They've been sending out the Samsung PB22-J with the older firmware than doesn't support garbage collection. If they had the newer firmware it would be a great deal.

I am getting the dual SSDs also. Mine is in production now, but spent about a week in limbo. EDD is Nov 24th. As long as it makes that date, it is a good time to receive it. I am off of work for 2 weeks starting Thanksgiving.

Hey Mandrake, what is the garbage collection firmware upgrade all about? Is this supposed to be a "trim" feature? Did Samsung mention when was this upgrade expected to be released? Read a good review somewhere about these SSDs which got me to finally pull the trigger on them.

Yes, trim is a Windows term. Samsung told OCZ that an update for trim would be released around the time Windows 7 was released. Since the Dell drives were produced specifically for Dell the firmware upgrade would need to come from them.

One other thing I just picked up on is that RAID is not support with trim and other third party garbage collection tools also do not support RAID. That kills the idea of RAID and SSD for now if what I read was true.
