that is totally screwed up, i thought they were not supposed to even charge you until it ships so it seems dell screwed up multiple ways on this one.

every company has mistakes when you deal wih 500,000 orders a week you gonna have to forgive them at least one time .....
not saying it was ok but seriously .... its a hard job manageing all the orders and never screwing up

Wow - That is so screwed up. Did you place your original order over the phone? Do you have the contact information for the agent?
Are you charging it to a Bank Credit card or some kind of debit card? Maybe the process is different for each. Debit cards get charged right away? -
It's more than likely "pending" until the order ships. That would subtract that amount from your balance but can easily be put back if the transaction falls through.

You would think they would cancel the "pending" as part of the process that canceled the order.

If you use your bank acct (aka debit card) the funds will be held, but not charged until the system ships. -

If Dell doesn't think it will get your order out within 30 days, they sometimes will cancel it.
It sucks, but there's not much you can do about the delays (except go buy a sager or something
)

Okay, so update on my story. My order was cancelled due to an internal error, for which several people who I went through was not my fault and Dell are sorry for. (Heh...) They told me that to order an m17x of the same specs it would cost £2750; I paid £2328 the first time around. I said that was ridiculous and that I'd just simply cancel my order. The rep told me she'd talk to the financing department and sort it out. she calls me back and says "we've decided to give you £400 off the system etc. etc." I was like "wow, so you're basically giving me what I had before?" Then she was like "okay, okay, we'll put your order into the next batch of deliveries too". Thank god!
So anyway, my order has been placed again using the payment from the first order. My rep apologised for nearly charging me twice but refused to give me any compensation for that. >.> The order was put and I was sent a confirmation e-mail. But I don't have an order number, customer number or internet receipt number. Need to get those off her tomorrow. Oh, right! I also found out 30 M17xs have been shipped so far, with 100 more to be dispatched this week. -

I just got a call from the Dell rep I have been dealing with since my order was messed up. He said they are trying to get my system on the "shuttle" tomorrow. It brings the systems from the factory to the US. If they can it should be a matter of days till they can Fed Ex it. So maybe, MAYBE it will be here next week. I am so excite about this!
They also called to track down information about my support call that resulted in the multiple transferrs then busy signal. They are trying to make sure that doesn't happen again. I also talked to him about the problems I had trying to get to a customer service manager and the issues once i did. I generally don't get upset at people just doing their job but since he didn't escalate the problem and refused to give me a case/reference number he WASN'T doing his job. That is gonna come back to haunt him.

It seems to me you got a whole lot of compensation. They screwed up my order too (cancel --> start over) and I didn't get any discount. Still - I don't care. I am getting what I paid for: A great notebook computer!! -
