Too bad you actually need the M17x before any of that will work. Just on a happy note :). I wonder if we can use that to virtually shoot dell in the butt or foot to get them working and stop lighting off fireworks.

Wait, Quadzilla, you said the screen is delaying everyone? Well, wouldn't the dell 1-800 number tell you your laptop is still in the kitting stage? And one 800 number I called said my order was in pre-processing and another says it is in the build stage. What's up with that?

Dell needs to get their act together. A month after the release of a new laptop and they already run out of parts? Very ill prepared on their part. Looks like a lot of us will be lucky to get our orders by the EDD.

I doubt any of those things are truly accurate especially if there are no screens right now that we know of .

Once they get a shipment of screens though(whenever that may be) then the machine should be built quickly. I bet alot of us will all receive are machines around the same time even though some ordered 2 weeks before us , i have seen this happen in the past.

Hey Guys - been following this thread for a while now. I placed my order for my M17x around the 16th. I run a gaming website and have been in contact with Dell in regards to the delays.

The bad news is the current ETA on the parts for the laptops is July 11th. So it's going to be a few days yet till these start getting rolling. According to my contact the demand for these was MUCH higher than anticipated.

The wait is killing me! :(

Is yours delayed? What are your specs? I ordered on the 15th. Mine has been in boxing for 3 days now. The ESD is/was 7/7/09 and the EDD was 7/13/09. It's very likely that those two numbers will be correct, or almost correct. Curious what parts are causing the delays..

WUXGA screen is causing the delays from what i understand and what they have posted when you order. 5 day delay for this part etc.

I've never gotten an official delay, but my contact checked on the status of things for me. I wanted to review the product for my site, so I was trying to get it in a timely manner.

He didn't say what specifically was causing the delays, only that they had an ETA of 7/11 for arrival of said parts. I imagine if it's just one or two things all these laptops will be ready to go rather quickly.

My EDD has always been 7/13/2009. I got two day shipping, so perhaps my delivery date will stick.

    Here's my specs:
    Intel Core2 Duo T9600 2.8GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
    4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz 2 x 2048MB
1GB Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M - SLI Enabled (NB10E-GT1)
    17.0in, WUXGA,LCD,ANW,M17X 1920x1200
320GB 7,200RPM (xMB Cache) w/ Free Fall Protection
    Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Combo (BR-ROM, DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

In the Dell Website in Japan, the option for UXGA is saying "you should wait an additional of 4 weeks".

Maybe you guys can bump yourselves to the top of the queue by threatening to cancel. ;)

I probably would seriously cancel if I didn't hear anything by the end of the week. If I had to keep waiting knowing there are new options around the corner I would rather wait for that.

They should've been prepared for a worst-case-scenario and ordered more than enough parts to fill the first wave of orders. My original M17 took a week and a half to go from being ordered to being unboxed here, at my home.

If it takes an additional 4 weeks for the screen then i probably would cancel, but thankfully for now it says an additional 5 days which i can live with (for now).

I feel bad for anyone not in the US trying to order one of these :( Seems they really get the short end of the stick with the pricing and the delays they are seeing.

One guy posted it was a $1300.00 upgrade for the 280m SLI

I canceled today and I am going to wait till it is sorted out, June 4th order and I am still in build. I really like this laptop but like I stated before the launch was poorly planned, maybe they were betting on the economy being bad and there would not be as many orders, I don't know? With new options around the corner it is worth the wait.

Very true. I think it's worth the wait for the M17x, even though the wait would be unnecessary if they planned it right. I just hope all this is sorted out soon. I need a faster laptop for when I go back to work July 20th and this laptop is going to be my replacement.

Yep, here in the Netherlands the lowest CPU is the Q9000 and a upgrade to a T9800 cost 520 Euros (US$ 727), upgrading from Q9000 to QX9300 is 1130,- Euros (US$ 1580)

Upgrading from single GTX 260M to dual GTX 280M SLI is 870 Euros (US$ 1217)

After waiting till the 5th of June and still being in phase 3: production I am planning on canceling tthis week. Unless I get a satisfactory answer from my rep or his manager within the next few days.

Well to be fair i only ordered mine a few days ago so i dont have much room to complain . There is nothing on the horizon that i have seen thus far that would make me want to cancel honestly , i dont consider better CPUs IE i5 or some such for me to want to wait . I have no real interest in 4870s either as im not a fan of ATI at all even if they perform better in benching , im a gamer and sadly Nvidia gets ALL the support when it comes to gaming.

I use a 1-800 number and go into the business section of the automated call. The number I use is 1-800-283-2210. From what I am told, even if the laptop was not ordered for business, you can still select the business section of the automated call and many people say it is more reliable. This number tells you what stage and sub-stage the laptop is in.

lool. they just mean that 1900x 1200 is very high resolution which in fact is. but they mean the screen we have seen on US machines delivered. nothing more nothing less. you know the sales management of Dell and every seller. Dont forget that the guy who made the thread is a Dell guy. this includes everything..

i really cant understand why there is not a specific date of parts delivery. and finally is there a specific date or they get one screen per day? what kind of business are they doing?

Once again, Dell's business model allows for a 7 day supply of parts at any one of their manufacturing facilities.

If there is a part they are having trouble getting from a supplier, then Dell is at the suppliers mercy for that particular part.

This is one of the reasons why Dell uses different suppliers (and also to keep costs competitive). I can guarantee you that they won't be using an "exclusive" manufacturer for their screens again :)

    suppliers = manufacturers (mostly)

therefore, if samsung is having issues manufacturing screens, dell is going to have supply issues....

Well the screen is obviously not up to par with many of our expectations, while some have said they don't mind it, others are returning the unit because of it.

    I think a fix/change would be a smart move?

Yes im sure they will be getting someone else to make panels and infact id guess they already had someone else working on them, but they just were not ready for the launch.
