Yep it is tomorrow. I don't mind if they wait a day. It's a lot of hurry up and wait there. I won't have the patience to wait if I'm afraid FedEx is lurking with my box.

As I thought, mine will arrive tomorrow. It shipped today next day delivery, although last night it did say shipped, that's the Dell system for you. Still getting the system 16 days after order is not too bad.

In the meantime, I purchased an Asus W90 (yes, I know, 16:9, I hate it) because I've always been interested in it, mainly because of the X38 chipset. I wanna see if I can push the FSB to over 400mhz

Preliminary Shipping Date they said was August 5 for the M17x, but I just put in the order yesterday, so still on phase 1. The W90 should be here by Thursday.

 

Who did you buy the W90 from ?.

True. I'm expecting to encounter the famous issues in the W90 thread and since I got it from 0ri0n, I'm going to brace for the web browsing issue. Luckily though, I've learned a lot from my new job, namely how to tweak and troubleshoot drivers (mostly network cards and server stuff) and hopefully I can get around some of the issues the W90 is having, which I believe may be driver caused.

As for the M17x, I can't wait. Hopefully it will ship sooner than August 5. I want to play with nTune not so much to play with the GPUs (which I'll definitely be doing), but also to see if I can overclock the CPU more seeing as no one tried it yet. Since ntune can tweak certain nForce chipsets, I'm hoping it would push the FSB past 333mhz.

Would be nice if someone tried this now to save me some time, wink wink

can you still take a snip of the mobo then. I hard intel chipsets or better overclockers then nvidia's. but intel seem to be only focused on there desktops. I can't get no intel desktop boards to install. it says intel extreme utility service can't be installed.

 

huh, fancy that. Did it allow you to go any further with the FSB and did it allow you to tamper with the memory a bit?

BTW: This may be the answer for Sager NP9850 owners who have a locked BIOS.

Lol just going thru everything . Wow this is the most amazingly designed laptop i have ever seen/owned and i have owned ALOT.

Gonna do some backups then make sure everything is kosher then toss in the CPU and HD etc.

I can tell ya one thing though and that is words and pictures can not describe this thing , it is like a piece of artwork as much as it is a laptop.

Yay mines in the boxing stage.. took 11 days.

 

What do you think of the screen ?

 

My screen is nice . There is a decent amount of bleed at the bottom so i wont lie about that but overall nice. Its not 400 nits bright though . i have seen so many laptop screens to be a decent judge of them but its still bright and evenly lit i would say . Screen from me would receive an 8/10 overall.

Also the reflective glass is not nearly as bad from what i can tell thus far as it was on my W90.

Ichime though will be the better judge of that in the end having both side by side.

Hey congrats , it'd be nice if you could write up a more objective mini review in the owners thread or make your own with some pics. I know you'll be one of the more honest reviewers so yeah..

 

One more thing i just noticed is how the auto contrast thing works on this .

Bring up a fully white screen like my computer and the whole panel becomes brighter and is super bright. So clearly the panel is capable of being much brighter. This is not because the screen is white it has the illusion of being brighter. It truly jumps out at that point.

You can tell it becomes brighter because the start menu bar and and taskbar at the bottom cleary get much brighter.

 

I was trying to find some kind of sensor the other day. Covering up different parts of the lid didn't cause a change in brightness for me. I would think if you wanted to see how bright it can get just shine a light on it and see if any dimming it's doing shuts off.

 

Do you notice any graininess/sparkles quad?

 

Didn't someone mention you can turn off auto-dimming in the command center?

 

There is none of that going on with my panel. No windex effect.
