I just saw my order, still in pre-production... i've ordered 13/06, had to re-order in 16/06 due some bank error and dell didn't even let me know... i had to call and ask if everything was clear to discover that was canceled in the first time...
I got student discount (UK agreement with universities) plus free standard delivery.. If dell cancel my order again.. They will loose another customer just like you...

I just called Dell to make sure my order had not been cancelled out and the representative I spoke to said my 18 was in production. The website, however, still says pre-production. Not sure how accurate the info is.

If they are cancelling due to discounts promised, then I'd be pretty disgusted as well. The discounts weren't insane IMO and they could always just limit discounts for any newer orders to sorta benefit the early "best" adopters. This is a total cop out and I wonder if there's more people can do...
If Alienware is limiting discounts to a mere 50-100 dollars, then they certainly have lost me as a customer.Good thing I have no money nor time for them and me to care too much I guess. Maybe I'll wait for a new vendor after Dell goes private (perhaps this has to do with that issue?)
Edit:
Anyhow, I doubt after 3-6 months the discounts will be 50-100 dollars only...At the end of the day, it's just a computer which only gets better and better each generation...
For folks wanting a higher discount, this is the 2nd week for these new systems so I'd recommend just waiting a bit till the early adopters die down a bit. -
Talk about dropping the ball. What a screw up. I'm surprised Dell are penny pinching to that extent. It's counter productive which ever way you slice it. Surely customer good is worth more than clawing back $50-100 per customer?!
-
The sad thing is that a lot of people are simply just re-buying it again so it's sorta like allowing them to treat customers that way.
Of course, there maybe some other reason, but maybe someone from Alienware (Luis?) can clear it up at least.
Again, I know they won't "care" whether you don't buy since that's what they want at the old agreed upon price, but re-purchasing at the higher price just seems like going back to an abusive gf/dh/dw, etc... -
If my order gets canceled, I think I might just order from a different company. Such a let down hearing this news
. Did you guys have to call to find out if your order got canceled, or was there a note on the page with the summary of your order.
-
Total and complete BS. This is thier last shot and never ever again. -
Edit: Did you still get a promo gift card? -

1.shift+space+straffing 2.forward+shift+space strafe left right
3.forward+shift+1234 etc.
4.crouch forward/strafe+jump or change weapons.
My old Alienware m15 couldn't jump while holding shift running (Sprint) or strafe while crouching into a jump.
Granted these are finger gymnastics, but it demonstrated some problems with the keyboard matrix surrounding wasd and modifier keys (jump, Sprint, crouch, prone) -
umm need to ask for confirmation... Alienware 18 have no multimedia keys?
in tech spec Alienware 18:
Customized Features
Laser-Engraved Nameplate
when I tried to order there's no nameplate section >.> -
Edit: meant to say it went into pre-production this monday -
Gonna have to call them tomorrow and see if my order is still good. If not, I'll definitely be buying something else. Still says pre-production on the order status page, ordered on 6/11 ~4pm.

Thanks!~

Hi guys
I have two questions, Luis if you could help or shed some light it will be of a great help or anyone else for the matter comparing the these two CPU options that I am torn between for my M18 R3:
i7-4900MQ
i7-4930MX
is the MX really worth the 500 USA upgrade ? I couldn't find any solid benchmarks anywhere for the two but in theory the only difference is that the MX is merely clocked higher ? trying to make a sound decision.
Second question how does the 780SLI fare when compared to the 770SLI ? is the performance gain decent to justify 400 USD premium ?
My M18 R3 will be primarily used to play WOW on an external DELL U3011 2560x1600 when I am not travelling, how would they fair ? is it an overkill ? At the moment I have on my desktop an AMD HD6970 along with i7 second generation CPU forgot the model number (at my laptop now) however I can only play on fair-good settings and during raids its choppy and sometimes it drops below 15 which is unpleasant, I am not sure whether WOW engine is more friendly with Nvidia cards or AMD cards overall so I will leave this to who ever tried both
Thanks a bunch in advance !! -
Wow is very CPU heavy. An XM chip will let you OC the CPU to insane levels, much more than a 4900. If I could afford it I'd go the XM every time. But a 4900 certainly won't disappoint.

Just a thought for anyone who is having their discounted order cancelled - if you guys bought with a credit card, have you checked to see if there is anything in card providers terms/conditions regarding purchase protection that you could enact? - I'm thinking here that you guys entered into a contract with Dell, they took your money and they are liable to fulfill their commitment. If they break it, surely there is something in contract law that gives you guys the right to get the goods your ordered/paid for at the 'contract price' with the help of the card issuer's protection.......
I'd be looking into it....
EDIT: Just thought of a snag....I don't think Dell actually charge your CC until the unit ships, from recollection, so from that point, no contrct exists as no money has been paid. You guys could check your CC's, though... -

I have seen dell cancel orders without reference to the purchaser before but it was always because of payment problems (failing pre-charge?)
I'll wait this out to see the scale before I go on another crusade
Edit: I don't think money has to change hands to seal a contract. Just a legally binding agreement to buy/sell at a price. Them local laws kick in relating to cancelling. I'm no legal expert though... -

Just digging into this a little further, an whislt I'm no legal eagle either, seems that money indeed does not need to physically change hands - it's called "consideration" where both parties have knowingly entered into said contract. There's obviously a lot more to it than meets the eye, but I wonder if there would be any recourse in this?

Doesn't sound like the cancellation problem is widespread but different regions operate on their own P&L so will always have different deals and operating practices (where they can).
I wonder if it is limited to a specific method some managers were using to allow then to push a discount up? Dell get wind of it and put a halt but end up with orders cancelled because a code is no longer valid? Just a thought.... -
I think its all about normal sales chat wanting leads on sales for themselves, instead of getting auth for a discount first they want to get as much leads before speak with managers. Just my 2 cents.

The problem does appear to be only located in small regions.. In UK no case was reported so far and it should not happen... Words of one of the sales team guy...
However, my order is still in pre-production and no idea of when it will be changed to production.. -
TBoneSan, I oredered the 18 with the 4900MQ. Can the 4900MQ be manually overclocked or is there just 3 presets to choose from? It has been my experience when gaming with my desktop I7 990x anything above 3.9-4.0 does not show a dramatic increase in FPS. Of course benchmarking is a different story. Just my observation. -
I think mine was cancelled, the hold on my credit card returned. I'm calling them now. Very disappointing.

I saw the new Aienware Command Center came out for the new range, will it be made available for the older models?
-
I'm not too fond of the new keyboard itself but the functionality improvement is noteworthy.
I run WoW ultra settings on a single 680m without a problem (maybe some slight fps drops in raids if the card is on stock clocks). I'm sure a 780 Sli configuration will be more than enough.

All this talk about cancellations worried me. I have just spoken to them, nobody is aware of this so called cancellation policy. My order is still in tact and it was nearly £700 off - not only is it still in tact but they have confirmed that my estimated delivery date of 27th July is way out (I ordered on the 11th June). They say I should have it on the 5th July.

I'm chatting with a Dell rep right now because I got around $332 discount. I'll update when I find out more...
-
This is what the Dell rep said, "upon checking on the information, your purchase is already approved, there's no way to cancel it, the reason why it is still in preproduction, because the item is build to order, and the estimated delivery date will be on or before July 25, 2013". That's exact quote...I dunno. Maybe the cancellations are an isolated incident, or an old discount code like was suggested earlier????
-
Luis, what excatly don't you like about the new keyboard? Was the old version better in some way?

Just spoke on Dell live chat with a rep, he had no idea of the cancellations going on (at least in the UK).
He even gave me an EDD of 24th June 2013 - that's next week! Over a month earlier than 27th July 2013 which is what it says on my order page.
I asked if there were any problems with the order, no problems mentioned so far..
Although the money has been returned to my bank account - the 'hold' that Dell had placed on the funds has been lifted. However this doesn't worry me since it's happened before, and I think there is a policy that funds cannot be held for more than x days without actually being withdrawn... -
Does your laptop say in production??
