Looks like my order was cancelled

Edit: Apparently this is due to the 240W adapter being incorrect - my account manager was away so I wasn't notified. I had to rebook but they will put express shipping on for free.

What I cannot understand is why orders cannot just be edited they have to be outright cancelled to change anything (think I have about 4 cancelled orders in my account now!!)

It would also be nice if time was taken to ensure that if someone is away someone else deals with their important communications!

Thats pretty sloppy on dells behalf of adapter being incompatible. What on earth is happening with them at the moment. Mine 18" is still stuck in PRE PROD - due to LCD screens not passing QC testing.

So even if you buy a $6,000 machine, the most they will discount is $100 or $200 off? what ... happened?????

It depends.. I was able to get a $2098 rig for $1800 so it all depends on your rep. I would try to just keep on calling until you can get 15% off.

Yep all depends on the rep involved. Also key factor is how much your spending. I ended up purchasing a base config but got 14% off that price form £1999.99 down at £1721.54. Im sure on a more expensive machine the discount will be much greater. There seems to be bigger markup on the warranty and accident care being offered thats where they can make more margin when offering the discounts.

The 'man with no name' certainly came good for you, Dazzy . Base configurations are pretty hard to get decent discounts on because they normally don't include the 'goodies' that Dell make more money on, such as warranty (like you mentioned), memory and SSD's. Those things tend to bring in more cash than not, so with more expensive machines comes more 'wiggle room' for discount, as Dell are then selling some of those profit-loaded components....

"The man with no name" came into LAGO, and painted the town red, then killed the other notebook manufactures holding the town to parts shortages, then left leaving a message for future visitors "who am i...." :D

On my order (M18xr2 order placed 22/05/2013), it still says "Work in Progress", does that mean its still not in production ?

Sorry if stupid question, I have never bothered to check order status in past.

I would call and talk to Dell if I were you. That seems like a long time to me. And by M18xR2 you mean the previous revision before the new 18 correct?

Seems like a long time to be in production....

I really want it but don't need it and they just gave me such a good price. :/
    I already have a desktop that has an i7 3770k and a GTX 780 :/

If anyone cares when i called in they asked me why i was cancelling i just said" Buyers remorse" and let them keep typing. I was then asked if there was anything they could do to help me keep the order i said, i really just spent more money than i wanted to.

    Probably 3-5

Mmmm, if you call in you might get a little more discount, but at this point the order is placed, they see it as money in their pocket. You'd have to call and say you want to cancel because you spend too much money, but i'd wait until it hits production, because if its in pre production they don't lose anything. If its in production they have a half built laptop that no one wants at the price you paid.

Well there are 2 other models you know. And who knows, the LCD issues might not be across the board for all Alienware 18 so they can ship out some.

Finally they are beginning the shipping

It would be interesting to see if ANYONE has actually ordered an 18 that HAS gone into production......if it's an LCD issue, none of them should have, as there is only one panel 'choice' for want of a better word.

Very Nice Cloud and it probably has something to do with Miami Heat winning the championship lol since AW is in Miami Florida and they were in a good mood lolz!!!

Btw what did you end up getting? I got the GE40 a few days ago and I wrote some pros and cons on it on the ge40 owners thread. I also ended up purchasing the Alienware 14 with the gtx 765m and 1080p IPS upgrade and got a decent 10% discount.

Not sure if I like the sound of anything being "built in" - especially Killer related, given the vast amount of BigFoot problems from the last revision.....they put their big 'foot' in that one, and it sucked for many an owner of a Killer card...

Stevie, My 18, and I believe SaintSatan's 18, have both gone into production. We are both in the US though, so either it's just 18's to UK with the LCD QC issues, or UK has higher standards...that would suck...

To be honest, I don't think it matters if you are US or Outer Mongolian, as far as production issues are concerned. Their ALL made at the same factory, so ALL would possibly be affected by a production line issue. They don't make 'em separately for us UK guys LOL. Still, good to see that your's and Satan's (that sound's odd - Satan buying a laptop lol) have indeed started rollin'..........

Dunno about 'higher' but all countries have their own 'type approval' required to see a product there. Europe (states of Europe) have harmonised on the CE mark, US (and canada?) use UL mark. Why there are so many logos on equipment! If there was a problem with meeting the spec of a specific approval body then is is possible a single market could be affected - but highly unlikely after approval has been issued (I worked with medical device manufactures in the States on getting CE approval on new devices so they could sell in Europe ;))

Interesting, Micky - never thought of it in that context.
