My case manager is someone named Suneel. Sadly hes going on a 2 week vacation starting thursday. Thus i don't think he will be able to help you.

Looks like my order will be cancelled and reordered for the third time - Non 3D LCD cannot tie with 3D Packaging Mod. Unbelievable.

Mine went into production this morning - expedited replacement order for m18xr2 and it was submitted on may 31st the first time and cancelled twice before this order finally stuck on the 24th.

My 18 went into production this morning as well (also placed on 6/24). Took four tries to get the order in and correct. Here's hoping the wait and hassle are eclipsed by the quality and performance of the unit.

No, Alienware got rid of the cover. Alienware/Dell have really trimmed down on the extras. I remember a few years ago they would provide a small binder like manual + CD slots, Custom Name plates, etc.

Does anyone know how to complete the checkout process yourself if you have a quote number if you are in the UK?

dell.co.uk/qto brings you to a US page. When entering the quote number and customer number it just ignores the input and reloads the page...

Well here's a comparison of 8 vs 8 pro. I think of it like this: if I don't know what the features do just by their names, I probably don't need them.

HDD are not capable of saturating the 3Gb/s connection let alone 6Gb/s. Manufacturers write what kind of SATA standard the drives support, but not the actual speed of the HDD. If I remember correctly a good HDD is capable of 150MB/s sequential reads/writes and a good SATA 2 (3Gb/s) SSD is capable of ~250MB/s, which is around a SATA 2 limit (bare in mind that it's a real life limit, not a theoretical one). So in conclusion no, there is no major performance difference between a 3Gb/s & 6Gb/s SATA HDD :).

Ok, I'll start with no, a panels refresh rate is just that, how many times a second the panel refreshes the displayed image. It has nothing to do with what hardware you've got, until you start using active 3D, for example 3D ready games. The problem with 3D is that with the technology nvidia uses you have to have x2 the frames of non 3D version of the same game. One frame goes for the right eye another for the left. Shutter glasses cover one eye's view while not doing so for the other eye thus providing the impression of depth. You can learn more about active shutter 3D system here. So 770m is no way near enough providing the required horse power to drive new games at max'ish settings with 3D if it can't do that without 3D. That being said 780m wouldn't help either for you would to get 60 fps non 3D to get 30fps (per eye) in 3D. Of course 60fps in 3D is optimal, but to get that you need desktop level performance and that means SLI of mobile cards, but the 18 inch is not 3D ready.

Several others have posted similar problems. Sounds like something in the order had the wrong part number (others mentioned resource CD) so they cancelled the order and recreated. Atleast one person had to call back in to get them to fix it up.

Talked to a rep from Dell earlier. Again, they wouldn't give me any info other than the EDD was July 19, and that I shouldn't expect it early. They did agree to put an expedited order request in though.

I cant believe it they're charging high prices and they get the order wrong? I'm going to have to call in tomorrow as I've received no notification of this, just checked the order status page and it said it was cancelled, I am sooooo angry.
I knew I should have just ordered the ASUS G750 from Amazon way cheaper and no wait only for the order to go wrong.

Just imagine you go to the BMW garage and order a car only for them to cancel, sorry chum we ordered the tyres for a mini cooper for your X5.

Me too - for the third time! This time I will be looking for compensation. If it was cancelled and reordered with no input required (and no change to EDD) that's fine but each time they need my credit card and each time it isn't rebooked until I make contact.

We get a raw deal in the UK particularly on price now to top it off the service is diabolical too. im actually wondering how their after sales service is going to be like judging their pre-sales is questionable.

Well I can't complain because i knew my EDD was 26th from the start so its not as if i didn't know. I'm just getting concerned at all these cancellations, lack of bank account activity and little progress on my order status. How would i know if my order was cancelled?

you wont find out from them, I didn't, you'll have to check the order status page linked in your order like you've got an OCD for staring at your pc screen or other device whilst hitting the refresh button in your browser over and over again.

Every three days i receive one email from the person responsible for my case... today afternoon was everything fine.. i just arrived at home.. and discovered that is cancelled...

Bottom line.. I will offer them 1400 pounds for another alienware with 16 GB ram, GTX 770 , 64 msata, and 2 years of damage and warranty... and that's it... if they do not agree.. well they lost a costumer.. first time i can take it.. but second one.. is just pushing.. worse service ever..

I just wondered what happen if i do something like this in my company

cannot contact them.. is too late in Uk right now.. just tomorrow I will know... which means.. pushing my EDD even further..
If I were you my friend.. give them a call and ask for a good check in your order... I let you know tomorrow the reason...

probably will be a stupid reason like some other... like the recovery CD missing from the order...

Its totally unacceptable considering the amount of money we're paying for these systems. I've not had any problems with my order so far, but I thought long and hard about buying this system, £3000 is a lot to spend on a computer and the last thing anyone should expect is problems like this. Sorry to hear about the hassle they have given you.

    Hi everyone,
I am new to NBR, but I have been lurking over this thread for the past week because I'm thinking about buying my first alienware laptop. The deal I managed to get was for the alienware 14 with i7 4700m, 1080p display, and the default gt 750m gpu at a price of $1224 (MSRP is $1349) with an additional $200 dell gift card. Do you guys think this is a good deal? I'm considering this or the lenovo y410p, which is also a 14" notebook with the same processor and gpu, just with a lower res 900p glossy screen. However, the lenovo only costs $790. Which of the two do you guys think I should get? Not sure if alienware is worth the extra $400. Also, the gpu on the lenovo is a gt 750m 2gb while the alienware 14 comes with a 1gb gt 750m. Does that mean the one in the alienware will be slower? Thanks for any help in advance guys. Sorry for my noobness.

Based on what I have seen posted in other forums, I would recommend steering clear of the Lenovo "gaming laptops" for the most part. They seem to have some funky issues. If you haven't already, look in the Lenovo subforums here and other forums and look for the good, bad and ugly before deciding. I would also recommend going with 1080p display.

I use a Lenovo T420 for work. It is not a gaming laptop, but I don't think very highly of it.

Maybe some current or former Lenovo Y series owners can comment with something more concrete for you to go on. I can only read what I have seen posted on their "gaming laptops" since I haven't used one.
