I think some are being delivered already and more scheduled for next week. At any rate, even if it were going to be 3 months it would be worth waiting that long for close to double the performance of any laptop equipped with the same CPU and one of the same GPU.

Yes, there have been at least a couple, maybe even more. See examples below from the http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...e-18-owners-lounge-thread-42.html#post9271976.

Like I said, I talked to two reps and they told me their were no delays or back orders of any kind. So whoever said that to the dazzy123 on here was wrong.

So some people have had 18's ship. That's a good sign. I was told last week by a manager that none of them would ship before the 15th. Hopefully mine goes from production to shipped soon. I would really like to have a laptop again!

I think wrong information coming from sales people (not just Dell/Alienware sales people) and wrong information being posted in forums is not all that unusual. But, it's cool that we see evidence by the deliveries that the two sales people you spoke with actually knew what they were talking about.

Thanks Fox. So many threads about the new models that its hard to keep up with all the posts. Since some have recieved theirs, the display issues can`t be widespread and its not screen model specific. That is very good to hear. Maybe some manufacturing errors among them?

Yeah, PLS + SLI is pretty beastly. Can`t go wrong that way :)

I kind of like that better. Its more work, but you don't have a large piece/chunk of your laptop missing once you put the cover back on.

Dell have revised their offer of 10% discount after shipping to 9%... Grr

Still though that is amazing... £2174/$3239 after discounts. Saved a lot of money.

My friend also bought a second hand M18xR1 yesterday with GTX580M SLi, 2960XM, 8GB RAM FOR £750/$1118! Bargains everywhere I suppose

One advantage could be keeping the battery in the laptop and connect the pins only when you need to use it.. it means it would be one less piece to carry around.

I am also waiting on my Alienware 17 ordered on 6/19 with EDD of 7/22, can anyone recommend a good notebook cooler that is good for gaming laptops such as the Alienware? I am thinking of getting the CM Storm SF-19, is there a better one out there?

I could not agree more. I think that dell owes us for that one. These lappys start at 1k and up....anyone who is dishing out that kind of money should not be afraid of their order being cancelled. I certainly hope that this laptop is well worth the trouble or I would probably never buy from dell again, in light of their customer service.

Im on a mega tight budget so I originally ordered an AW17 with 4700QM, GTX 770M, 16GB, 750GB HDD and FHD 1080p screen for £1654 (which was 'In Production' since the 4th July) but i wasn't happy that I couldn't add the GTX 780M as it was going to cost an extra £150 on top... then I saw this morning that dell were now offering an extra £100 off even before adding any vouchers. I didn't think it was at all fair that I should pay an extra £100 for a machine I have yet to receive over someone who ordered today so I emailed my rep asking him to cancel my order and recreate a new order for the same system but this time including the 780M. He requoted it with the £100 off + 7% + free shipping meaning i got the new system for £1700.98, just £46 more for the 780M upgrade... today has been a good day :D

On my original order it was 31st July (after 2 cancels by dell due to the apparent part shortages), the new order however is 25th July... I take this with a pinch of salt though. At the end of the day I got the system I wanted for a price i can live with so waiting a little while longer doesn't bother me too much

    Hey everyone,

I've been following along through all 190-some pages and want to thank you all for some of the great comments; made it much easier ordering an AW17 to replace my R3. Fortunately I made it all the way through with out any cancellations, and Dell shows it being delivered Tuesday. Which leads me to my question: Has anyone found a good vertical opening sleeve for the 17?

I read through the convo concerning backpacks, but I have that part handled and just want to get a sleeve for inside what I already have. I've got an email in to Tom Bihn to see if they'll do a vertical version of their Brain Cell (they have a horizontal one already), and they do have a plain neoprene type one, just wanted to see if you all had better success with something else.

    Thanks for any input.

Oh, and one other thing- the Dell rep, when I ordered, wouldn't put in a blu-ray drive. So does anyone who got a BRD in theirs have the part number for it (he wouldn't tell me that either)?

They should have the order process sorted out by then. Though I guess you never know. I wouldn't rush to get in an order right now. Last Alienware took 9 days from order date to delivery date.

Thats good then! I'm still waiting for my 'account manager' to ring me but it might not be till monday now. Although a part of me feels this isn't going to happen. Anyway my system specs have £200 off atm so I'm either going to ask for that or extended warranty.

Has anyone managed to order the AW 17 in the UK with the I7-4930MX processor i.e. the I7 Extreme Processor?

There is no option to configure it online in the UK but it is available in the US, so was wondering whether doing a phone order they may allow it in the configuration?

I'm thinking of cancelling my order and changing it to that processor and negotiating another price.

I really fail to see the reason that we in the UK cannot be offered the opportunity to have an MX cpu in the Alienware 17. There is absolutely no reason NOT to offer it. Actually, the MX's would probably run better in the UK given our lower ambient temeratures! - that's perhaps the one good thing about the crappy British weather! :p

Could it be it hasn't passed some of whatever regulations the UK has in place for mobile tech yet? Or there is just a shortage at Intel and they give US customers the priority?

It's available on the AW 18 in the UK so I don't think that's the reason. Just DELL, like all companies short changing the UK consumer, I've noticed with other pc manufacturers it's a similar issue where they give better tech else-where than what they provision in the UK. :(

The weather in the North East US isn't great either. A lot of water and cold fronts come off of the great lakes and shaft us pretty hard.
