I think and hope you're wrong about the price. Several articles have stated that the top model will cost under $1000:

Some articles stated the STARTING price would be $1000, but they clearly misunderstood or assumed incorrectly, as the $799 starting price has been confirmed.
I think the top model will have the 7300 processor, 500GB hard drive, and either 4GB or 6GB RAM, but I hope I'm wrong about the processor.

the naming convention is a bit tricky but not impossible to follow IN GENERAL the first number is the series while the rest indicate higher performing models... for roughly equivilent cards if the series number goes up one, then the next number will drop... eg. 6800 = 7700 = 8600 = 9500.
it gets a little hairy with nvidias switch to 200 series, but still once you know the equivilent (9400=105) then its not impossible to gauge where a card lies. -
and, yeah... top model (minus hdd which I will stick my 128Gb SSD from my zombie HP
-
Stares blankly at screen. Yeah with nvidia re-badging some of their cards and all. Lol I just remembered once on another forum we had someone convincing us their 105 was better than the 9400 in the mbp...

Since everyone's doing predictions:
Assuming it is $999 maxed out:
Base:
Pentium SU4100
nVidia 335m
4GB DDR2 RAM
250GB 7200RPM HDD
Upgrades:
Core 2 Duo SU7300 - $100
320GB 7200RPM HDD - ~$30 or -
500GB 7200RPM HDD - $100
At least, that's what I'm hoping. Heck, 2GB RAM base is fine - I'll be happy so long as I can get the Core 2, 4GB RAM, and a 500GB HDD for under $1,000. Exactly what I need to upgrade doesn't really matter. -
-
EDIT: Lol, the GT335 eats the 9400 for breakfast. -
That's one of the reasons the M11x will still kick@ss, the 335M is pretty good even when paired with the SU7300.
Besides the most CPU dependent games(RTS's) I still think it will perform very well.
Maybe well see at least a option for a SU9600 it wouldn't be a big improvement but at least it would be no matter how small. -
Pair it with a ssd it just like what i saw it with an adamo xps today a 128 ssd it flew like it was nothing. The 335 deff will destroy the 9400m man it sucks i have it right now so bad, well at least it looks nicer when you have an external output. A SU9400 will be nice. Why can't they also offer ATI, the m15x and M17x seem to have a lot of issues with nvidia gpus.

@ikas = That just probably killed off the MBP as a candidate since without a refresh it kinda means that the m11x would run circles around the MBP before it can even realize what's running around it.
-
MBP is nice but not a gaming machine, the M11x is.
Even if some members are not happy with only the SU7300 all is not lost.
Overall I think most people will be happy with the performance as long as they don't expect anything but the ultimate gaming experiance.
3DMARK06 scores of 6000+ are pretty darn good for a much bigger laptop for a 11.6" unheard of. -
So we wait and see. Or do we just jump straight in with slightly lower expectations? -
obviously we all got too excited about the M11x release and put our hope in the expectations, but hey, thats what a discussion is for...
i do understand people being disappointed on dell, i´m still not happy, especially, they call themselve high end/performance vendor..
some guys expected the M11x to be their main machine and of course, they want to have the latest and the best
on the other hand, DELL never mentioned something about the i series and the C2D performs nice and the baby will still be a powerhouse
it all depends on personal needs
do i really need it ? NO
do i want it ? YES,YES,YES
does it fulfill my expectations ? NOT really
does it fulfill my needs ?? MORE THAN THAT
so what, get the baby, fully loaded, and i´m quite sure everybody will be happy -
Alu is heavy, bent, and scratch easily...but gorgeous I agree.
With this carbon fiber, Sony and LG have bigger screen, heavier components than M11x for a lighter lappy as a results (just 3.5 pounds). -
-
My apologies if this has already been mentioned but is it not worrying that dell has not sent out demo laptops yet to reviewers to start drumming up there marketing campaign yet? Why does everybody think the laptop will be released in the beginning of February?
-
EDIT: Why do they need marketing? Look at the amount of reactions on the thread. The darn thing markets itself! -
To me there are few options to explain the silence from dell, one its not coming out next week, two they dont expect to be able to produce that many and will struggle filling orders that are place or lastly whoever is in charge at dell is an idiot and doesnt know what they are doing .which is very unlikely.
Saying that i'm unfamiliar with previous laptop releases from AW and this may be usual for them ? -
-
I'm wondering what marketing is there really for any alienware systems. I've heard of the brand a long time ago when they were in retail, but other than that, it was forums like these and going onto dell.com myself to see the AW brand name. I mean other than review models, there isn't much else marketing is there? I've seen a couple ads for the M11x though on dell's sites.. and the sweepstakes itself which has been advertised on gaming blogs I read and computer blogs as well. So I think this is the norm for AW.
-
-
The thing with marketing for Alienware: they realize someone looking for a mainstream computer does not need or want the kind of graphics capabilities of a high end gaming rig. there market is the gamer and the gamer does his own research and finds the best product for his/her needs. If you ask any serious gamer what alienware is, they know. period. they may not own an alienware system, but they have extensively researched them and will check them out when they are looking to upgrade.
in essence, they dont need to market there products, they just need to have them easy enough to find. those who will buy an AW will find them. those who stumble on some bit of marketing for them will think they are a waste of money and they dont see how anyone will have a use for such and expensive machine. -
-
also good point of view from vegenigma
DELL is far away from being stupid, guys, they know how to make bucks, they´ll for sure have an marketing department which as big as other´s company
Hey DELL, release that d*** thing -
-
I see the point that they would not market the product in the normal sence of placing ad's. The point was made the AW brand are for consumers looking for high end machines and they do there own research. That is why i made the point that they have not sent out review models. sending out the review machines for tech/computer websites to review is the way one markets a product like this, as was said by Nuke people do there own research by going to tech websites like TomsHardware.com etc to find high performance componence or laptops like AW machines however the fact they have not sent any out suggests they are not yet marketing to the high performance community yet.
Dont get me wrong i want to to be released next week aswell but i see no proofas far as i can see the only comments made by dell are saying it will be released in the early part of the year i.e. Q1 (jan to march)
What do you think ? Can anybody provide a comment made by Dell about the release date ? -
Credit deflected where its due. hehehe.
Aussies are getting it mid Feb in retail mate (Refer to link to aussie webpage some 20 pages back). So no reason why Dell should sell only after them.
EDIT: Quote:"Dell's Alienware will sell for $1599 when it is launched on February 3." http://www.theaustralian.com.au/aus...-invasion-begins/story-e6frgazf-1225823414768 I think we should get MAG to add this to the first post... There's ya proof rite?
MORE EDIT: I think I remember when AW released their Aurora ALX rig at 3E the reviewers only got to run it through its paces after it. Correct me if I'm wrong... -
While we have not heard directly from a Dell sales rep, all signs seem to point to early Feb release date. Aussie site, Sweepstakes last date, forum members whom seem to have at least some inside info. nothing noted yet conflicts with this date... opposed to the Ci5/C2D debate. all signs point to next week as, at the very least, pre-order and final specs released.

-
well i got to know to the m11x through laptopvideo2go because i wanted to load a driver for my ty laptop
-
thanks for the OZ site link ( http://www.theaustralian.com.au/aus...-invasion-begins/story-e6frgazf-1225823414768)
Is that spec correct (excluding the i5 rumor)? If so it simple is the same machine as the Inspiron 11z just with a nvidia 330 .... ? -
not to mention the chase is definately different, different dimentions/style/lighting etc. -
is it the same cpu as stated at CES ? i thought the m11x was stated to have a 2.6ghz core 2 duo ?

By that logic a dual-core desktop atom processor is a 3.2GHz quad-core! -
I believe this just came out on the Direct2Dell site..'history of the M11x'..interesting stuff...

Oh and the m11x left for dead 2 video is on there too!

Another official dell rep saying launch is "right around the corner". I think we can expect a launch next week as we've been anticipating.
