Glad to help
I counted five M11x's in that video
haha
The M17x really put it into perspective though.
I can't wait! -
Anyone else notice the drop to 14 fps when the zombies actually started showing up? I was hoping for a little better considering the Source engine is so old.
Still, i can't wait for this thing to get released. My XPS M1530 wants to explode whenever i play anything. -
The Source engine Left 4 Dead 2 is using is new. It's not the same one used in Half-Life 2. It's constantly being updated, but I agree I kinda expected more. I am guessing AA is turned on because the game runs smoother than that on an 8600M GT.
-
Also I believe the source engine is also CPU dependent. Probably due to the physics and maybe b/c it's an older engine. Lookin good though although yeah I did expect a big higher FPS for L4D2 since that runs much better than MW2 on my systems I've had.
*edit* here's a link I googled showing the difference CPU makes for the Source engine for HL2Ep2 along with GPU benchmarks. FSB and L2 cache are big ones apparently. The SU7300 is 800Mhz, 3MB respectively.

I'm pumped though thanks for the new vid/blog info! -
It still didn't great frame rates when the zombies were all around 20-30 frame rates i say! Also why hasn't any answered my question no one ever does gets quite annoying.
-
Sweeeeet. Next week can't come any sooner now.
@freedom= which question? -
lol, I searched your posts, and saw a couple questions. Both of which no one can give you a real answer so we can bull you or give you what we've heard...
they've said world wide launch, as for the date, we've heard Feb 2nd (not officially confirmed by Dell), but no later than Feb 5th. As for why no ATI cards? Not sure. I don't think anyone knows. -
So M11x, or Asus Ul30jt...??? Argghh.!
-
Dell blogger says "REAAAL SOON". Dell Australia says "Feb 3rd". Dell Hotline says "Uh.. 1st quarter?" As for ATI probably evilcorsair or some of em over on the other thread with a better idea of the engineering of the tech can give you a heads up.
-
Ok thank you thank you! Greg03, a lot of these machine these days need some time too be tested and see if there are any issues, my friend was right if there is a completely new processor wait a while and see if there are any problems. But besdies cpu the gpu will be way more powerful than the asus ul30jt especially the re branded 310gt. its going to be a surprise if they put a core i3 only lol, remember also an ultra portable and battery life is one the single factors for a small machine, its suppose to be a power house in a small factor but it still is a small machine so yeah. A nine cell would be nice though. We are just going to have to wait for the launch to see what gpu it will be etc..
-
Seee, weesa nicesa peoplesa.
Alienware is stuffed full of win (Except for the CPU, people are still bashing heads over that one).
-
I'm definitely getting one of these babies. Perfect for taking notes at school
-
Hehehe. "Notes"
-
During lecture, while the instructor has paused and everyone else stops taking notes, there will be one person in the back furiously pounding away at their M11x's keyboard.
-
Or screaming "Kill that boomer!"
-
Speaking of taking notes at school, what are some good games for the M11x that don't really require a mouse to play properly? (First-person shooters are much more difficult with a touchpad, for example.) I don't really want to bring a mouse to class. Sorry if this is a little off-topic, but it's something to help pass the time while we wait.
-
Tower defence... Turn based strategy... RPGs (To some extent, playable but better with mouse I guess)... Racers (A gaming wheel is always better than the Up, down, left and right keys)... Sports games.
-
Ohh I love the Heroes of Might and Magic games. Those definitely don't need a mouse.
-
LOL. True true. Any more news guys?!
-
I hope this has BT, if not I'll be getting a BT USB adapter, the orochi is small enough and portable so I can rock it basically anywhere since M11x is small enough I'm sure for whatever table top I'm using.
-
If it can fit PC Gamer Mag, it can fit the m11x. Lol.
-
I hope the "feet" on this laptop leave enough clearence between the base of the m11x and the surface its on to allow decent cooling. The S-XPS 13 literally has 1mm of clearence. This lappy has a nice intake fan on the bottom, but I hope it has enough clearence to give it air.
-
Also, pretty sure that it didn't have BT, which was surprising to me when i read it. Lets hope it just hasn't been mentioned but that it IS included.
-
Lets get someone to measure based on the tons of pics we have had since CES
EDIT: Everyone's calling this a "netbook". Probably Dell's trying to stuff one up Steve Jobs' backside with him callin netbooks underpowered. -
Dell have never marketed the m11x as a netbook. All independant sites label it as a netbook due to its 11.6" screen
-
Some sites quote Dell calling the m11x a netbook but others call it a gaming notebook. Either way, it has a lotsa power.

I'm having a really difficult time wrapping my head around this. You have an awesome form factor, killer graphics card, and then....a last gen CULV processor....that's not even top of the line (hello SU9300???)???
What's going on here? I'm sitting here typing this from my SU7300/210m UL30VT (which gets me over 55 FPS with mostly medium settings on WoW, AKA, good enough for me) , and if the M11x had an iX processor I'd be the first one signing myself up for one with my Asus up on Ebay in seconds. I definitely feel like I'm not alone on this, which means Alienware is already losing potential sales.
I can't wrap my head around them putting such a weak processor in this thing. There are better/newer ULV's out there, what gives Alienware?
For now, my money is staying in my wallet.
-
With all the posts I'm kinda losing track who said what where. But its been thoroughly explained by evilcorsair, IKAS and co why the Su processor isn't really all that weaker than the ULV iX series. ULVs are uber-nerfed to start with, so you can't compare em with their desktop/mobile brothers

This, and it's still not out of the question that the M11x will have a newer processor as an option.

Very interesting info given the source
Thanks Gabe -

I'm well aware that ULV processors are much more tame than the full balls to the walls counterparts, and I also understand the newer ones aren't a huge upgrade, but it's still old tech vs new tech.
Why put the old tech in when newer and still better (even if it's not by much) tech is available? With a "top of the line" manufacturer like Alienware, I don't feel like I'm asking too much by saying this. I feel like before Dell purchased Alienware, the original Alienware guys wouldn't have settled for this.
I'm not trying to come across as pompous, I'm just a potential customer that is weighing my options and unfortunately seeing that this machine may not be enough to satisfy what I want and expect from an Alienware 11 inch machine.
I just spent $4,000 on a new m17x R2, and I felt that every penny was worth it. I'm just not sure I'd get that same feeling purchasing the 11x unless it had a better processor. -
Well can't argue that it would look more awesome to have a i7/i5 sticker on the system compared to C2D.
@veg = The probability just got rolled over by gabe.
@gabe = Thanks but any idea about the colour options?
@someone further up the thread whose name i have forgotten = LOOKIE BLUETOOTH!! -
Pentium??? According to this, there are no Pentium Dual Core processors at 1.3Ghz; they start at 1.6, and the lower frequencies only have a 1MB cache. I'm confused...
-
I haven't been notified of any other colors.
@ vegenigma - Those are the official
Thanks,
Gabe -
Probably the SU series that people have been squabbing over
Will there be a matte finish option for the case lid? -
Nevermind. Question answered!
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
the su4100 is a pentium dual core ULV processor
it is currently offered in the inspiron Mini 11z -
Ah, found it on Intel's site now. Thanks!
-
Here's the product page for the Pentium CPU that is (likely) the one in the M11x: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=43568
Main differences between it and the Core 2 Duo SU7300 option:
Smaller L2 chache (2MB vs 3MB)
Does not support SSE4
Does not support VT-x (hardware virtualization)
That last one is the kicker for me - if the Core 2 option is a $200 I'm going to be pissed (better not be more than $100).
Edit - Looks like you found it, I'll leave the link up anyway. -
At least we have official stats. Now we need an order page. Start chanting guys!!! ORDER PAGE ORDER PAGE!
-
hey guys this would be my first thread so be easy on me but isnt the 335 older tech also... being that it is in fact a rebrand aka there g92 and that would go all the way back to the 8000 series...?
-
http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_m_series.html
There's a useful comparison chart there. -
well they arent going to say in fine print ps its a rebrand lol, is it a g92 chipset?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I thought I heard the GT335 is based off a newer core, but I could be wrong
-
Ditto. I just did some searching to confirm and couldn't find anything on it, though.
-
One question remains when can we buy one and get it on our hands
-
Looks blankly. Are we talking about the mobo or the gpu?
@kawser = read the rest of the thread. release dates and all are explained.
