Well...
I'm still not sure about the M11x. It really depends now on how it's priced in Europe with the Core 2 processor. No bloody way I'm buying a Pentium one, I draw the line at Core 2.

the gpu all they do is slap on a few more cuda cores and call it new! the ati 5000 series has directx 11... i just hope they come out with some ati options... keep in mind all nvida has is driver support and cuda for application use. ati has pure horsepower when it comes to gaming and always has. yea the 1.3 core 2 leaves a bitter taste in my mouth too
-
with that spec´s, especially an SSD
I´m IN -
-
February 2nd is the last day for the M11X contest. It makes sense if it will also be the release date.
-
BUT, i guess, with an ssd, it will definitely not be under 1000$
-
Me will order and me will get maxxed out model. Minus the SSD. Gonna wait for those to become more affordable (probably in a future revision).
-
Multiple articles have confirmed that Dell stated "the top configuration will be under $1000.00." Which we all know means $999.99.
I am just really dreaming that there will be a core i3 option. I get to play with it tomorrow. First thing I am going to do is 720P video to an external monitor. I can confirm Crysis is playable at 30FPS on medium settings. The Dell quote: "it plays Crysis at 50 FPS" is obviously on low settings. Will try to install BF Bad Company 2 Beta and see how well it plays as well. Will keep you posted.
-
omg people stop asking about core i3/i5. Its been all but proven that the supposed feb 2nd release version WILL NOT HAVE CORE I CPU OPTIONS!
IF Dellienware has a Core I CPU ace it's sleeve then I'll certainly be springing for that option, but we would have dug up the information on it by now.
Also, stop complaining about the CPU being "last gen tech". Seriously. Just keep it to yourself. You're complaining over what will AT BEST be a 2-3 FPS gain in games that are multi-threaded for more then 2 cores. MOST games, on the other hand, are going to run near-identical on the lower-end Core UM CPUs vs. the ULV C2D... just get over it. Be it cost, heat, or compatibility reasons we're all getting tired of the complaining.
The best quote in this thread: "If the C2D ULV is not powerful enough for you, then the Core I UM wouldn't be either." -
-
Actually, its 3.30pm where I'm at. But judging from what gabe's told us (go back a few pages, it can't all that hard, rite? rite? RITE?)
there's a greater chance steve jobs would sleep with steve ballmer than the 1st gen m11x having a core iX. Maybe in a future revision, but not 1st gen.
-
That must be MAX SUPPORTED specs. Despite how awesome it would be, there is no way Dell is giving people a 256GB SSD, and 8GB of RAM for under $1000. I truly would love it, but there's just no way unless they've decided to break their "Max spec = $1000" promises.
@Raydiddi ???? It's 11:38pm on the Pacific Coast here... And I'm working for another 22min so I have nothing better to do then yell at people on message boards who keep asking the same questions -
-
-
You're probably right, Mag. If the maxxed-out option is 1299ish with the 256GB SSD consider me sold on getting the SSD. Thats how much I have to spend after sending back my 1645 piece of junk.
-
Does the limbo rock. Booyeah! Who knows Dell might surprise us all and give us EVERYTHING MAXXED at $999.99999999 And charge us $0. 0000001 for service charge. Hehehehehe.
-
-
lol yeah. I can't believe the iPad has no flash support. FAAAIL!
-
-
How did you get your hands on one? -
Super stoked. Can't wait to get my own.
-
EDIT: Give us some specs too while you're at it. And also see if the screen lid is glossy or matte.
EDIT again: Never mind the question. Shoulda read the post more carefully. lol lucky you. Try playing MW2 on max settings too. Probably would silence those saying the C2D is a bottleneck if the machine holds up. -
wouldn't it be awesome to order this by phone and get like 200 through a rep, zomg that would be sick. m17x r2 or 3 m11x hmmmmmmmmm or both, idk i have about 3600 to play with. (returning m15x)
-
Let us know if you have such luck. When you save $200, I save approx $670-ish. lol 3?!?!?!?!
-
zomg how teh hell u do that.
-
-
Good lord! Unless your 12 years old or something similarly ridiculous, please type english. Nuke seems to be Malaysian yet he types better.
Otherwise, first post in this thread but I've read through both the owners thread and debut thread. Insanely excited to get this laptop, I can't take my HDX offshore with me due to the weight. They allow 10kg of luggage on a helicopter. -
i was messing around bro, chill out. also was really caught off guard with what he said
-
Sorry I guess. Forum ettiquette is good and full english though. Just a lot easier on the eyes.
-
damn goood stuuffff! So glad to see there's Bluetooth, whew! THat's $20 saved and a free USB port. Man, wonder how much 256SSD will be, ~$400? When buying SSD through Dell, is it generally cheaper than the same at retail? I basically know the specs I want, unsure of 500GB 7200 or a 256SSD, oh and want Smoky gray lid (if available) since the black is such a fingerprint magnet.
just noticed no built-in mic? Nuts, I don't use mic often, but enough to where I'd like to have one built in, instead of external since I rock Senn HD555's for my headset.
*edit* thanks thorpe on info about SSD. Didn't realize it was $600 option as seen in the M15x -
usually your better off buying outside of dell on both price and quality, their ssd aren't the best you want intel or ocz, almost 600 for that 256 for the m15x so yeah, you would save a lot of money on a better product.

At least our currency is not as bad as Indonesian's.. Go 1Malaysia
I can't wait for this machine!!!! -

A Pentium processor!?
Are Alienware actually going to release this thing with a Pentium processor? I'm shocked. 6+ years old technology in an otherwise neat machine.
I don't care if the low voltage C2D CPU performs similarly to the ULV Core i5/i7 CPU's, it's still slower, even if it is only by a small amount. Alienware are meant to be an "innovative" company who have always utilised the latest technology.
I'm genuinely disgusted that they've chosen to release the M11x with such s^%& CPU's. They've lost me as as a potential customer anyway. I'm also surprised that people who have bought AW in the past, and are aware of their high reputation, are willing to settle for second and third-rate technology. -
EDIT: Never mind my rant. I just realised that you're dissing AW. Lol. Just as the saying goes: you can't please freaking everyone. -
10 more minutes at work. Another day down. One day closer to my 1st ever alienware. Hoorah!
-
Unfortunately, I am. I was really looking forward to this, and the fact that other manufacturers are releasing netbooks with ULV Core i7's, I thought it would be a given that AW would too.
They might as well stick in the Celeron SU2300 as well. Complete their journey back in time. -
Do feel bad for some of you guys, my only use for it will be taking notes and being able to play my league matches for CSS/HL2DM at college during late hours when it makes no sense to drive home just to make the match. I just don't need the iseries for my uses although I'm just as dissapointed as the rest of you for it not being there. This is Alienware's first go around in this small notebook area, believe me they'll learn some painful lessons from consumers and get it completely right the second time around.
-
Well, ok, I'm not in a league. I don't think I could game professionally if my life depended on it, although I can still beat most of my friends at just about any shooter on any day of the week.
I think the thing to remember with the CPU is that the i series ULV's JUST became available. When the M11x was being designed, the Core 2 Duo WAS the best out there. AW probably decided it wasn't worth pushing back launch (which may have already been pushed back to Feb from some earlier date) to refit the machine with a new mobo and redesigned thermal management for the hotter CPUs.
I'm sure when the M11x gets a refresh, it'll get iX CPUs. But I don't want to wait several months for that, I needed a new laptop last week. The Core 2 Duo version is certainly good enough for me, so I'm glad they decided to release what they have instead of pushing the whole thing back.
-
Yeah, its a bit of a turn off, since like everyone's hopped onto the iX bandwagon and nobody likes to be left out, but heck even NASA is prone to using age old tech. The white house doesnt even use Windows XP mate. iX would be great, but it won't be possible to sell the darn thing lower than $1000. Besides, wait for 2nd gen if 1st gen wasn't good enough. They only promised the GT335, 4.5 pounds, the 6 hour battery life and less than $1000 fully decked out. They never mentioned top of the line iX processors.
EDIT: Scratch that. If you don't want it, just means that there's just one less person in line to get it. Means I can get mine earlier! -
That's right. Everyone wanted an iX because of this thread. Including me. Now, we are disappointed because they won't offer something they didn't promise.
Sounds pretty unfair. But I don't care. I wanted iX so now I will wait -
-
Yeah man. I came crashing down after Darkhan (unofficially) and Moo confirmed there was no iX. That was a few days ago. One of the worst days of my life. Almost.
-
its just that my bro gets an alienware too. Everyone wins.
-
Still fits my needs of ultra-portable gaming rig
Wanted an Asus UL80Vt at first.. also with SU7300 btw of course attracted by its overclockable feature
Imagine that performance: portability : battery life..
A dream that came true after the Asus UL series
@nuke737
Im thinking the same lol.. I can wait longer for a revision -
-
actually that dual core is penryn and 45nm so su7300 is not a big step forward
-
? its a ULV 10W TDP processor.. So that provides a cooler processor.
-
I understand those of you people with "Dell" colored glasses on getting upset with us that want an ix processor in the mx11, we are downing your high.
It stil dosnt change the fact that they are releasing an out of date unit on their so called "Gaming series, high performance line" of computers.
Its same old Dell as always, charging same as everyone else but offering less.
Just think if they were still putting in Core 2 Duos and Core Quads in the mx15's and mx17s. People would be having a hayday flaming Dell.....it shouldnt be any different for the mx11.
Dont debut something with old tech in it.
If you took off your glasses and looked at it objectively the core ix makes a bigger difference than 2-3 fps difference in games. There are many daily usage scenarios where it would make a substantial difference not to mention light gaming scenarios (WOW gaming) that I pointed out in previous posts. The new core ix would allow gaming like WOW on integrated graphics which would be a huge benefit in terms of battery life.
I still want one.......that is when they do a refresh.
