No, basically because of the GT335M inside M11X... asus will have a poor performance GPU, nvidia 310M as far as I know. M11x will be comparable to Sony Vaio Z series, with a GT330M but a far more powerfull CPU... but it's MUCH more expensive (starts at 1899 USD.)
-
But quality comes with price.
I doubt that the M11X is anywhere near the league of the new Sony Vaio Z. -
For all of those worried about an external drive...
1. You can network share a cd/dvd drive from any computer around you, i.e., a desktop system / another laptop with ODD / or a friend that is willing to allow you to share their ODD. This can be done in a few easy steps by "mapping a network drive".
2. Using the link below you can take the backup DVD you get from AW and make a USB boot disk in a few easy steps. VERY VERY EASY

I hope this solves this issue so we future owners of the m11x can talk about more important things.

A ULV Core i7 and chipset combination actually requires the cooling system to dissipate less heat than a ULV C2D/chipset system. So, no heating issues there I'm afraid.
-
Does that go for the i7 chips that aren't ULV?Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -
thanks mate
-
UL30JT and M11x will be very comparable the i7 in the UL30 will make up alot of ground in gaming, The Su7300 is a bottleneck for the 335, it can only run as fast as the 7300 will let it. Thats why so many people are upset the m11x doesn't have an i7 in it. The Sony is in another league it will smoke them both but the price will also smoke your wallet.
-
that's actually wrong, UL30JT performance in games WILL NOT EVEN COME CLOSE to that of M11X, even with the stupid CPU choosen by DELL...
GT335M smokes 310M... -
will the sony z really that much faster ? the 330 only has 48 processor cores while the 335 has 72 cores.
Ref - http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_m_series.html
did anybody ever give an answer on the OC question re the C2D ? -
We just seem to be running into the quad core vs dual core debate once more...In turns of gaming a su7300 with the 335m should comfortably beat the UL30JT, especially since the M11x will have overclock abilities on the CPU which will allow for less bottleneck.
I don't know if you saw the thread of quad core vs dual core specifically in gaming benches but the high end dual cores GAMING WISE ONLY either were roughly equal or even beat quad core performances in some game benches, even when matching up against the QX9300. I think here too the i7 will be overrated in its ability to make up the ground lost with the far inferior gaming card. -
Actually it isn't 1080p, it's a 1366x768, and was playing at that res, which is the same as the M11x will be. I did knock it down a notch, but didn't really change anything, thus why I'm thinking the game is very CPU dependant. My GPU doesn't even heat up in my ASUS while playing, and this thing runs HOT in every other game. So, worried about playing on the M11x with it's CPU that is quite a bit slower than my T9300 clocked to 2.9ghz.
-
ok... first: m11x will smoke ul30jt on GPU intensive apps while ul30jt will be slightly better than m11x at CPU intensive apps
second: m11x will be slightly better at GPU intensive apps than sony z while sony z will smoke the m11x at CPU intensive apps
and yes the build quality of the sony z is undisputedly better than either ul30jt and the m11x -
Nah, that isn't as awesome. I'll stick to usb hubs. Not that much of a neat freak.
-
But the sony's weren't built for gaming. The Z class is marketed for businessmen and businesswomen for that matter. So heat = issue.
-
Note: sony Z will CPU is NOT ulv
-
I realize this. I was merely stating this for those whom seem to think otherwise.
I'm sure I'm getting the m11x, but am still on the fence about this machine or its iminent revision. (I can wait a few months if a revision is close behind)
-
But the point stands. Its put in the business section of Sony's Vaio catalog for a good reason. Its not built for gaming. Sure specs might be awesome but you'll never catch me driving a car with a Toyota Prius chassis and a Ferrari engine under the hood. Not me mate, not me.
EDIT: I would wait too but I can't so I'm getting it ASAP. -
Like I said before, the GPU can only render frames as fast as the processor is able to feed them and at 1.3ghz the 7300 in the m11x isn't going to be feeding them all that fast.
Think of it this way you have a bottle, a funnel and a gallon of milk. The bottle is the game, the funnel is the cpu and the milk is the gpu. Only way to get the Milk into the bottle faster is to increase the size of the funnel right?
Yes you are right the 335m smokes the 310m all things being equal however when you have a 310m hooked up to an i7 versus a 335m hooked up to a 7300 things are no longer so clear because the 310m has unlimited headroom with an i7 feeding it whereas the 335m can only pull as much as the 7300 can feed it.
Did you happen to see in the video when all the zombies come on the screen in l4d2 how the 11x dropst to 14-15fps? That's because the cpu can't keep up!
Cheers m8! -
But there's not much milk any more rite? So the bottle gets approx the same amount of milk either way. Cheers to ya too!
-
LOL, you crack me up Nuke, all things considered I think the UL30JT and the 11x will be very similiar in performance actually playing games, regardless. I think I wan't to see them both before I decide which to get. Hung up on the size of the 11x if it is significantly smaller than the UL30JT I will definitely go with it. That's pretty much all it boils down to now for me is which one I am more likely to take with me most often.
-
I plan on buying one at launch and if a better revision comes out I will buy the new one and give the old one to my wife!
-
Does cracking people up get me rep? LOL. If its so darn similar I'd go m11x surely. Everyone has an ASUS, but an AW? Less, if not rare, especially where I come from.
-
I was REALLY excited for this thing till.....
I watched the new L4D2 video with that lady and instantly noticed the chugging when the zombies started to get near........
I already have the funds, but will not pre-order until true benchmarks are released showing MIN FPS as that is the most important.
The one thing the m11x has over every other laptop mentioned/compared in this thread is heat dissipation, and that's what I like. I would gladly purchase the M11x over the Sony Z due to just the heat dissipation, but that video shows me that this thing is lacking compared to the Sony's i7. -
Honestly I will probably end up getting both at this point LOL Only way I can really compare them side by side.
-
Yeah it did got to the teens, although I didn't notice chugging as in fps skips. She responded that was it was native res, all highs no AA. Still damn good to me =) Especially since the source engine is CPU heavy. One less person on launch day to fight over one of these lol.
-
My sentiments exactly. BWAhahahhhahaha
-
If you get both, then you'd definately better post like crazy!
-
Well do you have a vid of the Sony Z playing L4D2 at high with no AA and with framerates sitting steady at 40 every time a horde shows up?
-
Thats maxed with noAA i assume.. surely it would be choppy.. I even played maxed out on my P8600 and 9600M GT(DDR2) it suffers from lag LoL.. Maybe because my GPU sucks.. scores 4.6k on 3dmark06.. the M11x might be a "big" leap lol
-
Eugene?! You have yet to answer my question! Lol. You're getting the rig from Dell online or retail?
-
@nuke737
I must have missed your post..
I might be getting it through the Dell Online Sales Chat.. I want to squeeze out discounts and freebies from the Sales Agent
-
I'm not trying to bash, I'm just saying for the money you're spending to pre-order this thing without legit benchmarks........is extremely risky as that L4D2 video just showed.
Now I played the Startrek beta on my 3.8ghz gtx260 desktop, and it was chugging......so everytime I see the picture of the enterprise on the M11x's screen, I shudder a little inside. -
I don't think UL30JT comes out until March, that's main reason I get both too, can't wait that long anymore, told my nephew I was gonna give him my 1201n LOL
-
You're expecting this machine to perform on par as ur desktop?
I dont think the M11x is going to be even on par with my Desktop which is E2180 and HD5770 .. LoL
The M11x is meant to be an ultraportable rig to carry around..
and what games do we play when we're out with friends? DoTA? CS? Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 ? LoL..
This M11x will be my replacement laptop to Campus
-
oooooh. okay me gonna try too then! Hehehehe.
@armoured = Okie gotcha. Lol. Well, someone has to take the leap, might as well be me. -
I'm not comparing it to my desktop, as I'm just sharing an experience I had with a game that the M11x is obviously trying to showcase as "the" game to run on it.........
-
Blink blink. Still making the leap. Hehehehe.
-
eugene, nuke, im planning to buy this baby too...but how? haha...any infos for m11x in malaysia? tho they were complaining this much for m11x, i still think m11x can beat any commoner's laptop in malaysia. ><
-
Any common laptop? I dont think so..
Maybe yes for the 11.6" league.. Acer Ferrari One for instance.. lol -
I just wish Asus would give us some idea about the release date and such. It might make some people wait if they knew for sure... or not.
-
Can't wait, hope I can buy it here in CANADA on February 3 and get it within weeks. By the way Raydiddi how in the world did you get it before all of us over here
-
I hope ryadd is benchmarking the hell out of it right now and making an epic write up lol..
-
Seriously ^^ I need some hard numbers. Both viva CPU intensive games (WoW) and GPU intensive games.
-
Yeah hope ray has some cold hard numbers for us.
@eugene = Lol = maybe most mainstream stuff, cause I see tons of people buying laptops with integrated Intel graphics. -
I agree with this post for sure, but its also fair to say that she probably installed L4D 2 and just logged into the game. L4D2 defaults the AA settings on seemingly always, and thats going to hit the FPS pretty hard on this GPU. It's also safe to say that the texture levels probably are a mix of medium and high.
-
Thats due to their budget..
-
@ eugene = True that
@zlog = Well find me a 13 inch laptop that can do that without hanging up. That'll probably be a nice comparison to the m11x. -
I'll be expecting some nice pics from you fellas after you get your systems.
How many are going for black, how many for grey? I'm hoping to see both colors. -
The XPS-13 can do medium/high textures at 1280x800 or whatever the screen size with about 50-60fps average, but that is again without AA/AF on.
But the nVidia Hybrid SLI stuff is a little sketchy. -
Awesome. Only one. Heheheh. I don't mind 2nd place.
Me going for grey! Unless black is matte.
