more likely an i3 or i5 before an i7 and this has all been discussed in the other m11x thread. search it for i3 and i5 http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=448975&page=78

There is something I don't get...My LG P310 is between 3-4 pounds (1.4 kilo actually) with P8400, 13inch screen and 9600m GT.
How come the AW M11x is over 4 pounds? The LG P310 is kevlar and a little be alu, I don't think M11x is full alu...
With the new tech the new Sony Z is also going for 3 pounds...
So, maybe...the battery of the M11x is a bit special in order to make the AC cable very tiny... In the M17x the AC cable is incredibly small for a heavy gaming lappy.
Maybe they plan the same on M11x, that would be great to have a small AC cable to bring everywhere... Just my thought, but something is wrong with the weight at the moment it should be less than 4 pounds IMHO. -
^ maybe the cooling system is most of the weight. That's a good reason why gaming laptops are so damn heavy. Copper cooling, multiple cooling fans, etc. The M11x is made of some sort of plastic fusion or something like that to keep it light so yeah it's something else than casing.
-
The flashing lights are really heavy
-
Glad there is a official owners thread, that debut thread became really stupid after a while, well of course its going to be the pipes and fans that is going to make it very heavy. Put a ssd with the su7300 and it will fly.

Intel Chinese website....... -
OMG someone translate this!!
-
nevermind doesnt really need to be lol
-
zomg amazing find man insta +10 i wonder how real it is?? interesting the 520 isn't listed as one of the i5 chips for the m15x, maybe cuz it's really low power or something.
it is here is the 520m on intels site.
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=47341
32nm and 35 watt 2.4 overclocks to 2.933 not bad. and it's dual core. -
But still the LG is more than 1 pound less than M11X and all P310's owners will assure you it's not war,
I am sure it's battery related... -
c____jay how did you even find that?

Megacharge Custom User Title
I'm seriously contemplating getting an M11x i7 or not. I would love something I could game on decently, be this portable, and nice looking.
-
There is a concern though... that i5 model is 35TDP... guess its 'another chinese typo' (tm) ? -

The authenticity of that link is in question, but it is awesome to see all the same!
+rep! -
-
-
What about the i5-520UM? Its 18TDP
-
-
I just went to intel.cn and found the same product page after navigating to the spec. page of the m11x. In terms of authenticity, it is on the actual chinese intel site...
Just tried checking the english intel site and can't find the m11x =( -
It will be interesting to see what unfolds in a few weeks. (My anticipation is rising)
-
as there is a big logo on the right indicating i5, and maybe they confused it with the 520m and copied those specs(2.4GHz) instead of the 520UM (1.06GHz) specs. -

In my opinion, core i5 makes sense enough because 6-hour battery for Intel graphic and the CPU (TDP = 35w) on 11.6" inch system sounds obvious.
SU7300 with 8-cell battery can usually perform much better than 6 hours with Intel graphic.
If what Dell can do with SU7300 is 6-hour battery life on 11.6-inch system, Dell fails on energy efficiency really bad. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
I noticed that the hdd was 320GB, I don't believe that there are 320GB SSDs which leaves me wanting.
Is this page giving off the impression of the base config, or maxed? I would think after showing the CPU and GPU if it were showing a maxed out rig than it would list a 256 GB SSD instead of a 350 ATA drive. -
Ok, considering this intel info and the fact that the question hasn't been refreshed...
Maybe Alienware became aware at CES that a c2d would be a major con against the competition and is heavily considering including a i5 version. We know that eventually they will... maybe this will force them to push the i5 faster than they anticipated. I doubt that i5 will be offered initially, but maybe some weeks after launch a minor refresh could be coming?
w/e i'm just another random guy starving for info
edit:
Let's hope for a SSD option... and not only the 500+ 256gb one... at least a cheaper 128gb would be nice and fit budget-wise into this 'sub 1k' laptop. -
I really can't see SSD as a viable option and keep below the $1000 price point.
-
A 128 ssd could keep it pretty low with a student discount or coupon you know it probably will be on sale when it comes out. For only the su7300 to fly its going to have a ssd. Also you have a classic Alienware Machine must of been expensive when you got it.
-
I got it on sale because right after I bought it they switched to dual core systems. Damn my luck.
-
-
Man if those specs are for real it wold be a huge win!
Please let them be true.
i5 would make it a grand slam! -
-
Not to be a downer or anything, but I have to say sometimes the Chinese sites (even "official" ones) can get things misconstrued. I really hope (beyond hope really
) that it's true about the i5 as I'm definitely on board. Heck, I'll probably be on board anyway since I loves me some AW.
-
wow if its really a corei5 i would definitely get this sexy machine
-
-
i can hardly sleep anymore because of the m11x
-
SillyHoney Headphone Enthusiast
-
Oh god please let it be an i5... Cmon February GET HERE FASTER! XD
-
lol Core i5 im on!
-
right there with you sillyhoney. i mean if it has an i5 for sub 1000 i'm going to get that, and that will hold me over until i can get 5870's in the m17x r2. i will wait a little though to make sure it's good before i get it so i might just get a fully decked out m17xr2. how awesome would it be if they made a desktop laptop combo with the m11x for like 2,500 - 3,000 maybe the area 51, or the aurora alx.... we can dream.
-
So hot for that little thing...I never hear anybody talk about how much hard drive space its going to be able to have? I know that a 256gb SSD could fit in there...right? (i.e. corsair, kingston, intel)
Also, I am wondering if I should just save myself some money and just get the Dell mini 10v instead...since I already have the m17x...any thoughts? -
no way man, get this little sexy thing, you know you want it. carrying that m11x around is bound to net you wicked attention. "what kinda tiny wierd looking netbook is that" and then you say "it's an m11x it'll play brand new games without a problem, can your (insert brandname here) netbook do that"
also on a different note the whole thing with the i5 today's question was about high performance processor or atleast the most recent one is. i would say i5 is high performance right?? -
ughh....stop filling my head with...wait...you're right
.... I am so boned...I'm gonna max out that little thing and but for like 1300...I just know it... I signed up for that sweepstakes for like ten other people...just so I can get it.
-
i'm gonna have the same setup you have, that tiny but awesome thing for the couch and travel. and i'm gonna get the m17 r2 when the 5870's come out. i'll probably low spec the m11x though. unless it has i5 then i'll just get that, and an rgb led if i can too. do they even make those that small? and it would of course need a small ssd.... k maybe i won't low spec it.
-
the chinese website says: processor, Intel ® Core i5-520M (2.4GHz) Memory capacity 2GB hard drive capacity 320GB Screen Size 11.6 inches Graphics chip NVIDIA Geforce GT335M.
oh baby... -
RGD LED would make this so epic.
-
yeah but there is a good chance the chinese site meant the i5 520um it's an ultra mobile processor with max tdp of 18, and it's at 1.06 - 1.86 for turboboost. though i guess it might be able to handle a regular i5 520m. maybe that will be later on or something. chances are high though that if it is an i5 it will be the 520um not the 520m
-
i5 = win. Maybe the C2D ULV is optional b/c it provides better battery life for those looking for that route yet can still game on decent settings? Who knows, but I'm pumped. Great find! gotta go back and +rep.
here's a copy/paste from the chinese site into Google's translator although most info we need is already readable.
-
I damn well hope that it really does have the i5. If it does, and it's well priced in the UK (i.e. £500-£600, which is $800-$1000, the price range they've given for the US) then I think I'll get it.
Because when it comes to my birthday in 2 and a half months time, it's a choice between an M11x or an iPhone 3Gs.
So really right now, for me, it depends on what the M11x will be priced like in the UK. -
guys by the way, we can all agree that the max tdp of the cpu is supposed to be 18 right, and it has to be 32nm, well there are only 4 processors that fit that bill, the su7300 ulv and the i5 520um, i7 620um, and i7 640um. those all fit the specifications talked about in the videos and what not. also there are two max tdp 25 versions of those exact i7, the 620lm and 640lm respectively with higher clock speeds.
