Folks, how can a system with a 4100 or 7300 ULV cpu be a good match for a 335m? Seems the Porche with bald tires analogy is fair. Neither cpu is very fast and both are weak for playing the more demanding MAME games and the Dreamcast emulator. Seems there would be better CPU options for this. GPU is bottlenecked by the cpu bigtime.

For a sub-notebook the device is cool, but if I pay that much money, I would expect it to also handle MAME without choking.

Still, it is a cute little devil.

Hey, good news guys, found the m11's first full fledged review. it's a uk site and the model they tested was pretty much the 4gb ram with the 7300chipset. in the review they provide excellent description of the hardware and how it runs with several benchmark tests and better yet they prove that you CAN OC up to 1.6 with only a 1degree increase for the extra 300hz. great news, right?

It's very disappointing alright. I really don't know what they were thinking. I do however agree that it's a very neat machine and I do plan on buying it, but only when it's refreshed with the option of at least a half-decent processor, such as the ULV i7.

READ THE REVIEW> ME2 at MAX settings and native reso (WARNING: GOOD NEWS, NOT BAD NEWS so thee who hast doubted this little buggah will not be fall into a state of shock)

Not to be crude, but bottleneck my rear end. Grins contentedly. I can die happy now. :D And thats a lot of milk for the game ay? Hehehehe

But read the review. The numbers and the results are.. Astounding. 7-8 hours on integrated, 3-4 on gaming...

From the link good Mr Muffin gave us, they found the OC setting in the BIOS, so you can overclock without using 3rd party software.

Games that use a lot of GPU should be good. I play MAME a lot though and the 4100 and 7300 are not very good options for it, since they are CPU dependent.

    BTW:

Whoever said the SU 7300 / 335m combination is better than an i5 / 330m must have not let the drugs wear off before saying that. Just on CPU alone the i5 destroys the 7300. Simply go to a store, take a thumbdrive and run tests. i5 plays every MAME game I have tried smoothly. The 4100 and 7300 both choke when playing Dead or Alive in MAME. Half the framerates.

Surely there are not blind fanboys for a device that has not even been releases yet? The hardware already has benchmarks and the comparisons are with the Ion CPU's. That should provide perspective.

I must admit though that if th CPU could handle MAME, I would have bought one of these little fella's.

Omg it's up on epp yay I ordered black, su7300, 4gb, 256ssd all for $1260 Usd shipped 2nd business day. Used my awesome epp discount and that $50 off. Only bummer was no Bluetooth option was available?? I may have to call about that. I'll post confirmation later when I get a chance. So happy my discount worked saved over $350 :)

Umm... Okie. I'd take your point, but no offence, but I don't think Dell intended for the machine to play MAME games instead of the latest AAA titles. Not dissing MAME or anything, I like my arcade emulators very much too.

EDIT: Hey guys, can anyone let me know how to get a product code (or something along the same lines) for one of these buggars? I wanna get my boss to order one via retail channels. I get dealer prices. XP

Hey guys, right now i only have a Samsung nc10 as portable machine and this Alienware system looks like a good compromise between easy portability and gaming performance.
Nonetheless I'm a bit worried about the performance in none-gaming tasks...
I'd also like to do some light audio editing/recording with this thing (using a line6 pod studio ux-2 interface) and I'm not sure, if the cpus offered for this system would do the job for me.

So what do you think about the system's performance besides the gaming performance especially in audio applications?

well holy crapmypants, that hardwareheaven review made me see the light.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS?

Bios-handled overclock to 1.6ghz BUILT IN?!?!?!?!

I currently have a asus 1000he that has had it's bios modded to overclock the atom to 2GHZ. This was possible because of the bios overclocking option built in.

Basically, we're talking about very likely bios modding for overclocking above 1.6 GHZ here guys. I just crapped my pants again.

i just ordered the same rig for $30 less :) i don't ever opt for next day shipping because 1) its only 1 day from the tennessee warehouse to me and 2) fedex next business day doesn't deliver on saturdays and for some reason that's always the day mine show up.

i'm going to try this alongside the adamo i ordered and see which i prefer. faster processor or the better video card. i play very few graphic intensive games so we shall see which stays.

edit: i dont see the BT listed on the home OR EPP site. maybe it will end up like the M15x and it will either come standard or they will ship them out after the fact. i have a spare 370 module anyways so it doesn't really matter.

I mean, this system is just perfect. (for me I should specify) The only possible thing people could complain about is if they dont like the aesthetic.

    awesome size/portability.
    weight is fine.
    backlit keyboard.
    moddable backlight.
great screen resolution for the size.
    customized nameplate.
    ultra low power cpu
    bios overclock
    likely modded overclock
    switchable graphics
    massive battery
    great fan system
    great battery life when needed

what amazes me is the max mass effect 2 settings getting well over 30 fps. WITHOUT OVERCLOCK!!! I just am speechless! (I know all my ranting makes me hypocritical for that)

This system in so many ways just clocks my dv7t quad here in the face multiple times, then craps on it and buries it alive in a grave with an old man gumming it to death.

In other words, I like this laptop.

Are you kidding? get the $819 version. Stock + bluetooth like me.

I know the benefits of getting the core 2 duo but screw it I never use the VT anyway, I'll just do my crap with vmware like I used to before virtualbox and virtual xp. I'll gladly save the 100 for possibly a teensy bit less cpu performance too, and Ill destroy the cpu via overclocking anyway and replace it with a su9400 down the road.

Not only that, get this one now, look for specs on the refresh, sell on ebay after weighing whether the effort is worth the upgrade.

I'm gonna be lurking somewhere checking out the specs on the refresh on the v1 not freaking out wishing I had one that moment with how awesome this laptop sounds.

Just my 2 cents, the reason I like this lappie is coz of how portable it is but still powerful for something that small. I have this bad tendency of flying a lot for no reason :S And last year, lugging around my 18" lappie in and out over and over again wasn't fun, esp at airport checkpoints lol.

It's convincing my parents to let me pay that much out on it. They think that having my massive M17 is enough.

In all honesty, I probably wouldn't have got the use out of the M11x. As someone planning to take 5 A levels, I'd have no free time to use it in college which was my planned purpose anyway.

Basically I'd love to get one but even if I could pay out on it, it's not likely worth it for me. I'd rather spend the money on a huge stack of games, and/or an iPad when it comes out. (Yes, I really do like the Apple iPad, I'm likely getting one)

    WTH????

    $100 upgrade for a su7300

No built in overclocking support on this thing??? Cmon Alienware even Asus supports this. Not only do you gimp the processor by using old tech you dont even offer factory overclocking???? LOL

160 GB 5400 rpm hdd standard????? What is this f_cking 2006?? And a $150 upgrade to 500 gb???

Damnit I wanted to get one!!!!

Typical Dell bullshiz offer jack squat standard and azz raping you on upgrades. To get this thing at a decent config you have to spend at least $1100. Total bullshiz.

    Typical marketing hype.

only reasons i even got my 17 inch dv7t was because I thought I wanted quad core (dont even care anymore, actually pissed off at the terrible pre-turbo clock), I wanted dual hard drives for ssd os drive and platter media drive but I made my peace with that (bought a 160gb intel just to abate this part), and bumping up to any higher gpu than a 230m rocketed the prices about twice what I got this guy for ($750)

I'm amazed I even considered something like the sony CW i5/330m now that I've seen what this guy is capable of.

    BAHHAHAHAHAHAH THIS IS SO MISINFORMED!

edit: ok ill try and explain this.

    1) the upgrade for vt sucks but the pentium is quite capable on its own. not much of a difference at all. do you even realize you have to upgrade to 7 business to even be allowed to use virtual windows xp? save the money, and dont use this to jack up what you HAVE to pay for.

    2) there is overclocking how the heck did you miss this? I've had like 20 posts in the last 21 posts in this thread ranting about it! You will even be able to overclock it past 1.6ghz

    3) I'd rather they offer 160gb hdd and I can replace that with an intel than have a 320gb standard and it be even $50 more expensive than the $799 minimum. To each his own I guess, stop being so cheap and pay for the upgrade or again BUY YOUR OWN for even cheaper. Thats why it's an option.

    4) This is absolutely not a laptop fueled solely by marketing hype. The internals in this thing are way above what could have been predicted, it's way ahead of it's time, it's worth way more than its minimum price lets you get away with. Apparently you can even get 10% off for epp/student and $50 off for getting some emails or something. thats like $680 for the basic config. The asus ul30vt is $700 I think minimum and has a crap dedi gpu.

    5) What are you smoking?!?

Exactly. I considered getting either an M15x or M17x, but the M11x came at a perfect time... That week I was looking at what netbook to get LOL. Yes I know it's not a netbook but I'm thankful for it's portability. :p
