I agree and I also attach an external monitor to my M17x. It is a 23 inch Samsung and I am glad I have it as it is much easier on the eyes especially when I am at my desk.

*Dream starts*
Well, if the Apple Tablet being announced next week has a comparable graphics card to the M11x, has at least 2 USB inputs, and an iX processor for $1000, I will not buy the M11x
*Dream ends* -
Enjoy your touchscreen FPS controls.
-
Which is why I said at least 2 USB's (keyboard + mouse). Yes. I will enjoy.

You just need one usb port and than attach a USB hub with multiple USB ports.
-
I guess that would be kind of cool
-
this looks awesome, i hope it comes with i5 than i would have a quite console like(graphics) performing laptop. I personally have c2d p8400 2.26, 9600m gt ddr3 which scores 6000 points on default in 3dmark06 and 335m is scoring about 7.5k it would make kinda sense to overclock it to get around 8.5k score (with good cpu). I alone managed to get 7.5k on high overclock with cooling pad on the 9600m and play all games like MW2 or Batman on hd 1280x720 resolution with everything maxed out and sometimes AA2x with steady frame rate. I hope to see different cpu option that 1.3 and it would be an amazing laptop. A bit heavier than my 13.3 Lg p310 but if it delivers the performance i think i would be going for it oh and the design+batt is a killa
I wanna see how my current specs will handle bad company 2 beta and see if i def would need an upgrade
-
If they can cram all the power of your current system into a 11" form factor that will rock. This is not meant as a replacement for your laptop, rather a complementary accessory (IMO).
-
Why is it not as a replacement? If it comes with the i5, this will be an excellent little machine.
I can't understand how everyone is buying this to complement their "desktop" laptops? Finally with a machine like this, you can build a cheap desktop, and have this on the go work + play. Save a fortune in buying new laptops.
Or even just have a USB hub and 24" monitor at home, get back from work, just plug in and there's your desktop. -
It's funny to see how everybody is only looking at the gaming performance...
It's way more interesting to see a review about battery life, screen quality, build quality and especially heat issues. -
Looking at the current configuration of M11x how many years can we speculate out of this laptop to support latest games??
-
Impossible to speculate. It's too difficult to tell how system requirements will increase in the future. Plus, it depends on your definition of "support". I'm sure my desktop can run Left 4 Dead 2, does that mean it can play the latest games? Does it have to play all new games or just most (or just some)? Do you need high settings or are lowered settings ok? Are PC games going to see a big spike in system requirements when the next generation game consoles come out? Will requirements go down as everyone moves to laptops, which are inherently less powerful than desktops (especially when it comes to graphics)? Will games continue the trend of being far more GPU dependent than CPU, or will the importance of CPU begin to increase as developers use more advanced physics and AI? Or will nVidia CUDA and PhysX take care of that so the CPU remains less important?
There's simply too much we don't know. -
We will know soon enough!
Couple of more weeks and it's on( I hope)!
From what we have seen so far screen looks nice, exactly what were getting is still up in the air, how it handles heat is another story but the AW rep in one of the videos said the focused on cooling.
Of course it's all speculation -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
well that fan on the bottom is promising, and if the ODM is flextronics, well, they have been on a roll lately with the M15x and M17x as far as cooling goes
-
Man I am so excited about this laptop, I am also excited to see what this new apple tablet has. 95% chance I am getting the m11x, but if the tablet is cool enough, who knows.
-
The Apple tablet and AW M11x are not even close to being the same.
-
Is it bad that I'm constantly checking this thread everyday just to see whether there are more updates on the M11x? @_@
-
No.
I do the same! -
i guess everything is pretty clear, chill out till february
-
ditto =D

Yeah. . . this thing just needs to come out already! Especially now that my current lappy decided it was going to explode.
-
will it have USB 3.0 Superspeed or whatever they're calling it?
some of Asus' motherboards are already shipping with USB 3.0 ports. So I really hope this thing has these if I somehow do decided to get one of these. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
it will NOT have USB 3.0 almost definitely
-
According to Intel's (Chinese) website, it will have USB 2.0.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
ya I meant to say NOT
that is a my bad, will go back and edit the post lol
thanks for catching that -
Can we get a translation of that Chinese website? Google Translator won't do it.
If it is i5, then it's a sealed deal for me. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
agreed, i5 would be totally kicka$$
-
Done and added to first post.
-
I doubt it would be with the i3/*i5 since they talked about a C2D ULV and having the i3/i5 instead means another motherboard..
Well we can still hope! If it has i5, I will probably get one this summer for school and all 8D As long as it is not too overpriced in Canada :S -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Google translator worked fine for me
-
Yeah I doubt it's an i5 too.
-
Holy smokes!
So it is true! O_O
I would definatly pick it up, with an upgrade on the RAM (get atleast 4gb
)
Woa, I hope it's official, thanks for the link! -
how much is it going to cost ? any ideas
-
I can't see a i5-520M happening in an 11" notebook. A ULV i5-520UM, yes, but not a 35W 520M. Not only will it pretty much half the aforementioned battery life but the laptop would also want to have some serious cooling potential.
Sure, take the Studio XPS line for instance. Dell didn't even stick a 35W processor into it's 13" model, it only fitted 25W processors. It kept the 35W's for the 16" model.
I understand AW are always the first to break away from the norm, but a 35W processor in an 11" just seems crazy to me? Or am I on my own on this one??
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Hopefully it is a low voltage i5 part. But the repeated mention of i5 is a start
-
I think it is a low voltage cpu mixed with an undevolted nvidia gpu. If this costs less than $900 USD Ill pick it!
-
wow! insta-sale now
that is a day one availability purchase for me now.
sorry for being such a doubter - I just did not want to get my hopes up
THIS THING IS GONNA BE SICK! -
IIRC they said 799$ But I dont know if its the i5 version or if there is another cpu.
Also, anyone else noticed the avaibility date is january 2010 :O They have a week left! 8D
EDIT: Lewdvig, I want a review on day 2!
-
My wife is just about to start college again after 8 years off. I think I will pick one of these up for her and one for me as well. I will add it to my collection. I currently have:
M9750 with [email protected], 4 gigs ram, SLI 7950 GTX, 400GB Raid 0, Win XP Pro
M9750 with [email protected], 4 gigs ram, SLI 8700 GT,200GB HDD, Win XP Pro (wife's)
M17 with [email protected], 4 gigs ram, CrossireX 4850, 1TB Raid 0, Win Vista Ultimate
m17X with [email protected], 4 gigs ram, SLI 9800 GT, 800GB Raid 0 Win Vista Ultimate
M17X with i7 920XM, 6 gigs ran, CrossfireX 4870, 1.2TB Raid 0, Win 7 Ultimate (on order)
I think 2-M11X's would go rather nice with my collection
-
O_O
Dude Frag this is unfair, I dont even have one yet, I command you to share.
Lol, in all seriousness, if it does come like it's said on print screen below for 799 USD, this isnt even overpriced! Another step forward for Dellienware! -
show me those specs on a US tech site, then I'll get excited... I just don't get how they could do both C2D and Ci5 with the same machine... just doesn't make sense
-
It's possible (unlikely, but possible) that they have developed two mainboards, one for the ULV C2D, and (unlikely) another for the i5.
-
Now THERE IS A REAL Alienware fan!! Out of curiosity which is your favorite design thus far? I also don't see having two motherboards being a big stretch, if AW thinks this will sell big I see them catering to the higher end buyers for the i5. -
just a poseur :/
-
Hence my question...I have the feeling as well. Closest person I know to really own anywhere close that many AW machines at the same time is Rob41 (God bless and good luck wherever he is off in the war now).
-
Thats exactly how i feel.
If it was going to have a core i5, i think dell would have been revving that along with the nvidia 335 gpu.
and for the last time, people: check your facts: ULV Core chips like you're talking about don't exist. Theres like two that do, and I dont even think they're available/in production yet. -
they didn't announce cpu specs at ces; ofc it can be just a prototype with c2d, on the other hand there is a "little" difference in power saving technology between 4500 and core iX, I don't even need to mention mobo layout
-
It's worth mentioning that, if this does indeed have a core i5, there is going to be a lot of trouble for other ultra-portables...
I wont even second guess the purchase. -
I just wish it had bluetooth as well.
-
I'm not totally hung up on bluetooth, it does have 3 usb, so you can get a micro-usb addon, or maybe theres somehow an open slot inside (doubtful)
