It looks great but now I want to know when I should expect my m15x refresh! I want to buy something darn it!

Miss Malevolent Notebook Consultant
I usually like Alienware computers...
This looks bleh...no other way for me to put that.
And yeah Gophn called that one (bows to the master), thought for sure they were going to use a M980NU chassis. -
...lol
we told you -
I would have seriously preferred a 17.3" 16:9 screen. I personally think it's better for gaming and the extra width/shorter height would have toned down that peak a bit. ;þ -
And your screen will scratch if there is even the slightest flex in the LCD housing. My previous HP had that problem.

Wow,
They really hit the nail on the head style wise. So glad it has the matte finish too.
Looks like it's even now called the M17X, good call Gophn!
I like the specs!
• A single 1GB nVidia GeForce GTX260M GPU (upgradable to dual 1GB nVidia GeForce GTX 280M GPUs for your sweet high-end graphic needs)
• An Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz P8600 CPU (upgradable to a Core 2 Extreme Quad-Core CPU)
• 4GB of RAM (Up to 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM)
• A 250GB 7200-rpm hard drive (upgradable to a 1TB 7200-rpm or to 512MB of solid-state storage capacity [Raid 1 or Raid 0]; users can swap out hard drives by removing the battery)
• A slot-loading DVD-RW drive (upgradable to dual-layer Blu-ray Disc)
• A nine-cell battery
• An nVidia GeForce 9400M G1 GPU with HybridPower technology (the big bonus here on the motherboard helps you get decent scaled-down graphics when you don't need the dual-card megaton firepower; it kicks in when plugged into AC power)
• 802.11n Wi-Fi
• An optional 1920-by-1200-resolution edge-to-edge LCD
So glad it will have 280's in SLI!!!!!
I was really hoping A.W. would be the first to the punch with that. -
-
Could you post a link to this information? -
i wonder how the dual 280's compare to 4870's GDDR5 in real world performance
-
A matte screen guard will probably be a good investment for the scratch resistance and the anti-glare.
Problem will be finding one with a peak shape. Could have to cut one down for a 19" screen. -
-
if they do come out with the gddr5 4870, i bet many allpowerful owners would rather have that as an additional option since it will be cheaper and maybe more powerful
-
Ya could be right. It would be interesting to see what 4870's bring to the table compared to the 280's.
If the performance is about the same, I don't know what Alienware's motivation would be to offer them though. -
-
i think they will...why else would alienware tell me they have part numbers for them already for m17 configuration. tech support told me that last week.
-
-
I've known that since about october, but technical impediments got in the way (heat). Don't ask me what happened to the 9800gtx for the M17 either... they just decided not to go with it.
-
At this point it's looking like the world may never see 4870's with DDR5.
I suspect we'll see a whole new offering by ATI first. IMO. -
-
-
-
-
only thing i see is this new m17x fully configured will be crazy expensive compared to the m17. im guessing with wuxga and dual 280's etc it will prob come in just under or at 4,000$ way to rich for my blood id just assume keep the m17
-
-
-
I didn't realize you were assuming it would do this based on a different model screen on a HP. That's why I asked for a link showing it was the same screen used on the HP.
I guess I understand now. Correct me if I'm wrong. You're saying, in your experience with " this type of screen" it scratches easily? At least on the HP.
True, it may be more reflective, but AFAIK, we don't know the brand or construction of the one used on this new A.W. model yet. -
dont worry anything AW uses will be seen as crap
-
it will scratch because it doesnt dip in a little more than the screen border like our m17's. its like the PSP screens....
m17 screen
\--------/
allpowerful
----------------
the screen is level with the surface so it will scratch sooo easy if there is any pressure applied or keyboard flex -
Is it possible that's what they're doing or do you think there is another model they plan to use the 4870 in? -
think of it like a cellphone screen that sit flush with the keypad and after a couple months when the outline of the keys are scratched on the screen
Rob AW would not redesign a whole new notebook they would put it in all powerful if all else fails -
-
that will get annoying
-
I do that with my Thinkpad but with the weird shape to the LCD it won't be easy to find one that will match until it's released specifically for this model.
-
EDIT:It looks like the top center of the screen won't be an issue. The front, center portion of the palmrest area looks like it angles downward. -

That said, this beast looks SICK and I can't wait to get some hands-on with it. -
im sure you would ......
-
-
i woulldn't.....
-
-
That thing is HOT!!! cant wait to see some pricing .
-
-
-
-
i am a kid
pricing is 1799 and prolly 900-1000 for SLI 280's because each one is 500 -
u could always put the little cloth sponges on the corners they use on the bottom of furniture or chairs so it doesnt scratch the hardwood floors
-
Did they mention there would be an ATI offering on day 1 ? or that is still in the works . -
that would bend the screen
and make it hard to close
those are the cost to get it from a vendor now so its half spec -
-
? no it will not ill bet my left utter
if they charged that they would not sell any
