Been looking at possible laptops with nvidia 680m/k5000m and no optimus with 17" screen. Was going to go with clevo 370em. But have been looking at dell precision m6700, you can turn off optimus in latest official bios (previously only if you ordered an ips screen). Also the alienware m17x r4 if purchased with 120hz 3d screen. Been looking at 10%/11% coupons plus 6%to10% topcashback (which is ex vat). Stumbled across this post and very intrigued in the possible discounts from steevies contact. Just need to get my posts up. Main reason for the switch is that I heard dell have very good warranties.

M17x is a decent laptop, i got around total of 30% off wehen you included the automatic discount. Your looking around 1300-1400 for a base model m17x + 680m.

So far the best deal I have seen is 11% off with voucher plus free shipping and 6% off via topcashback, today it is now 10%off with voucher and 5% cashback. If there is a cheaper way in uk that would be cool, otherwise looking at clevo.

I think steviejones (Pm him for the reps details) on this website has a dell rep you could speak to, go to that rep with your spec and the online price (screenshot is always good) and then get him to do you a deal. Looked recently and dell havent got the automatic discount on the m17x at the minute, give it a few days/weeks and it probably will come back.

Tbh when I priced mine up in the end between a powernotebooks clevo and m17x, the price difference was £100, nothing major but I would rather have the alienware for the £100 extra.

Yeah. My chap has had a slight move. He is still dealing with sales but he has said that he may not be able to do the kind of deals that he was able to in the past. I think that things are "tightening up" over at Dell, as far as discounting goes.....

He can still offer discounts, just possibly not as high as they once were. Some machines were getting over 20% if they were top end - it's still worthwhile seeing what can be done. ;)

Try and get a quote first as well, at least then a price will be set in stone, since discount vouchers etc will expire, you never know you might need it. I didnt need my official quote (which can be honoured anytime).

I did get an official quote, it was £4 higher than what was in my basket. The lady said this was the best she could do, she even had to get authorization to get that too. This included 3 years warranty and 3 years accidental damadge.

She said as her quote was only £4 higher I should go with her. I assume she wanted commission, but that is a guess. I said to her, if I go through you then I lose topcashback possibility. There was no difference between the upgrades in the quote and what was in my basket.

    I had specced up alienware m17x r4 with 680m, 120hz 3d screen, i7 3740m, 8gb ram, 750gb hd as well.

As it stands what was in my basket costs the same as a clevo 370em with 680m sli, 16gb ram, 120hz 3d screen and i7 3740.

The 3 year warranty is not as good with the clevo, and think my home insurance could cover accidental damadge if I ring them up.

If I could of got the possible discount on the alienware, I would of got that. As 680m sli isn't twice the performance of a 680m.

Ahh, hmm, sounds pretty annoying. PM me the price your getting for it at the moment. I would like to see what price you getting quoted for your spec?

    I got 3630qm, 680m and 1080p screen for <£1400 when I was looking.

    Hi steviejones133

First time post longtime lurker (unofficially anyway)

Will be looking to you (and your Superman) for any deals even though I seem to have missed the boat somewhat.

Also using this to kickstart my post count

    Cheers

    Welcome "officially" to NBR! :hi2:

I'd be more than happy to see if my chappie can help you out with a deal on your machine. He is still doing good stuff, so you haven't missed the boat! - once you've got your post count up, you know what to do, right? ;)

I thought I would put up a quick post here to say thanks to Stevie and his contact. Both Stevie and the Dell rep responded really quickly and I managed to conclude a deal in teh same day.

I have to admit, the additional discount was not as good as I was expecting - roughly equivalent to the Quidco cashback, but I prefer to have the money taken off straight away rather than wait for Quidco.

I think one of the reasons my discount was not as great was that I managed to apply a number of discount codes before contacting him so it probably didn't leave much room for movement.

In total, I managed to get a 23% discount off the standard pricing

Thanks for letting us know, Super-Spy. It's always good to have feedback and I'm glad you got a healthy discount - even though it may not have been as much as you were anticipating. To be honest, I've mentioned it before - my rep cannot add or stack voucher codes like we can by clicking through various cashback sites. Basically, it's either that route or see how much he can reduce the cost of buying directly from Dell is. I guess you were like me - I prefer to deal direct, even if that means a small difference in price.

Anyway, glad you got sorted and thanks again for the positive feedback. Congratulations on your new inbound machine!

It is definitely better to deal with a real person. At least this way, there is some ownership within Dell for both my order and I would hope, someone who can fight your corner later if there are any issues. The fact you can get an additional discount as well is a bonus :D

I don't think you can. Although usually the discount code is a bigger discount than the EPP. You might be able to get cashback as well which is more than EPP alone.

Yeah - as mentioned above. Depending on the spec, the higher you go, the more chance there is of a larger discount via my Dell Contact.

I guess it would depend on the machine and specification you were looking at. For example, if you were looking at a base M14x, you got no chance, if you were looking at a fully loaded M18x, I'm sure there's room for negotiations.....

I have seen some decent spec M17x R4 with 680M GPUs on the Dell Outlet but they are rare. You have to keep your eyes peeled and be really quick on the buttons to get one in your basket. I would say 1 in every 10 17x have a decent spec.

As for the 18x R2, they are even rarer although there was one at the start of this week with 3740QM, 6Gb RAM and dual 680M SLI GPUs (no Blu Ray or SSD) for £1,400. As you can imagine, it didn't hang around along, maybe 1 second !

Tried calling Alienware today. Was told the EPP department closes at 5pm.... if theyre gonna hire people from half way across the world, then is it so difficult to hire them several time zones further away so that they can actually be around to deal with sales after their potential customers come back home after a long day of work

also, when people are doing haggling here...do they usually speak to British Isles based employees?

mine was halfway across the world, your best to get the best price on the internet (use discount codes and sales etc.) and bringing that quote to them and see if they can better the price.

problem is, i want to use my EPP discount...however I cant seem to get it to work. Ive tried getting help on chat but it seems the conversation always *disconnects* (although this only shown on subsequent emailed transcript...not in the convo itself at the time)...and i never end up with a final solution to my problems.

My m17x that I got via your contact last year is coming to the end of its warranty - does he deal with extensions as well, or do I go in direct to Dell?

    Thanks,

Hi Andy - doin' fine mate - hope you are too!

Yeah, he's arranged a few extended warranties for various people. You might get a slight discount from him, too. If you've still got his number, I'd give him a call - repeat business is always welcomed and appreciated, no matter how small.

Just giving this thread a friendly bump, as I presume there may be many of you out there who are contemplating buying one of the new machines that Alienware will be announcing this coming week. If anyone needs help in seeing if they can get a discounted price, you know what to do! - I'm here for you guys should you want to see if you can "save a few quid" if you are thinking of buying.....

On a side note, many of you may (or may not) have seen my recent thread about some recent difficulties I am having with Dell. The thread is located in the main Alienware sub-forum and can be found here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...-emea-dell-support-full-details-included.html

If any of you guys would be so kind as to maybe pop on over, have a read and see what you think. I'm not begging for support, but if you felt that after reading, you wished to post a comment or even place an anonymous vote on my poll, that would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, and if you need my money-saving services, just fire me a PM and together with my Dell Rep, we'll try our very best to get you a good deal - on anything you may be looking at.

    Cheers,
    Steve. :)

hi steviejones133, can you make it possible to get a discount price in Denmark?
    I was interested in m17x r4 (offer is 1609 EUR - hd7970, i7-3630).
Maybe I can get same price or better for R5?

    Thank you,

I imagine it's possible to get some discount off the UK list price when they hit. How much, I don't know. Best to wait till they have landed on the UK website for you to compare Denmark vs. UK plus additional shipping etc. I'm happy to try and help, should you need a price from my chap.

Anyone's guess. Sometimes the new machines hit it the US first. I have seen new models appear on the UK website before the US website, oddly enough.

I might have to cancel my current order to get the new revision?

Would it be best to do this through your contact or cancel it first then make contact with him?

You can cancel whichever way you like. If your current order has gone into production, it will be too late to cancel and you would have to return it within the 7 day period. Probably best to check and cancel in the normal way instead of my rep.

Looked up Alienware UK for m17x r5 today. Not impressed by the lowest price option (A ridiculous £1799 for meh specs Alienware 17 Full HD Gaming Laptop Details | Dell UK).
Went to Dell-Alienware chat and got the absolute base config with absolute base price. So that when you add the upgrades of your choice from there you won't feel robbed.

Remember folks to always look for a better price rather than settling for the stock prices shown on the web ;)

I saw the price and it wasn't too bad, shame you might have been able to add voucher codes to it (eg. 10% off free delivery blah blah blah)...

You should get a quote and hide the quote number should give everyone a rough guidline of pricing :)

Yes. The current DMXDimension codes do work on an new machine. I had several various config's in my basket last night (window shopping, of course) and got free delivery (-£20) and 7% off......
