I'm afraid I don't quite understand what you mean by this... Could you explain/expound?
-
whilst im not a fan of those images at all...for now ill keep hope that something better will be revealed at e3. even if not...i guess id still chose AW over sony/toshiba/samsung,,,i think the new design could grow on me...but atm im just scared about those corners at the hinges. Look really ugly in those pics. Prob my main gripe with the new system.
-
Im ordering M18X R2 680m SLI rght now, just in case they are as ugly lookin as these pics , and worst comes to worse if they loose metal chassis. I will wait an extra time needed to get one and another if needed and compare whats what. If thats the way of new AW design, they will either not sell or will get dirty cheap due not being popular any more.
-
Not a bad move either. Imagine if there was not r3, you'd be very happy then. Regardless those 680m's OC like absolute animals. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
(Is that ur FD there too. Fine taste for motors too) -
I would actually love to see alienware use a name brand keyboard, and some nice high end speakers like the msi.
I wonder what it would take to get razer and alienware to work together
-
yea, I reckon I wont be disappointed either way, since I needed another laptop anyway I will have a good use of it, will get it to 32GB RAM an 3920xm/3940xm and some SSD's will make it to be a top form weapon of its form. cheers!
thats not exactly my FD But I loved the exterior setup so tagged to it, mines under project still
gonna be serious one when finished (some day in a future)
-
32GB of RAM won't make it perform any better than 8GB...
-
with heavy video editing load and several VM's runing believe it makes all the difference
ofc for gaming its a different talk, you'd never need more than 6-8GB but gaming is not on my top priority list. I do want to enjoy smooth experience of anything I wanna do with my machine's so why not max it out and have the best of it. -
Besides, I want 32gb for gaming so I can create a RAM drive out of the majority of it, and have my current game insta-load.
-
I really don't understand this. The rumor is that they are GAINING a magnesium chassis, as the current R4's are all Plastic. Also, about the design, what's so great about the mostly-angular style they've been using up 'till now? I like this design where everything flows together and there's more venting.
I see no reason why someone would want a big brick over something that looks unique and sculpted. I understand there's personal taste, but that's no reason to insult Alienware by saying they're not going to sell anymore just because they don't listen to your "Magnificent" advice. -
I have no problems with the look of the rumored M17x. I think it looks great and even better if they use magnesium. I'm a desktop kind of person so i'm waiting for news of the X51 but if I needed a gaming laptop I would not hesitate in buying the newly designed AW laptop.
-
When I first seen the new design I was a little unsure about it but it has grown on me, as long as it's built to high standards they can use whatever they wan't as long as all the hardware is kept cool and these new laptops are relatively quiet.
-
Are you representing alienware and I managed to insult you? I dont care if they take anyone's advice or not, whatever I or somebody say - its called your own opinion expression, so take it or leave it.
rumors are rumors and you know nothing until there launched. In fact if there WILL BE M18X R3 - I will get one of these too if the style wont be anything in my personal opinion - DISGUSTING, if they are going to be better performer by a BIG step ahead, and if they will be any more improvement over current M18X usability FOR ME then its another good go for me and maybe you will feel happier about it, not that I care.
Whatever you like or not - feel free to express yourself, I wont be set on that, nor will judge you or anybody.
Sometimes all this "new futuristic" style may have disadvantages for some, and advantages for other users.
These are gamer's orientated machines of high performance, and I do admire its high performance capabilities hence me and many other users who need all in one powerhouse may use it for serious work, professional orientated, and I would highly dislike (rummored) pink-touch pad and flashy accent across the laptop that may or may not look childish but its just me, I love current M18X style hence I got what I got, no offence should be taken. -
The pic with the pink touchpad is frightening.Don't know what AW designers were thinking when they came up with that, hopefully it doesn't make it to final production.
-
Maybe that touchpad is some type of low resolution screen and everything we have seen is just placeholder stuff ?. Something to watch Youtube on or monitor your temps etc etc.
I personally think some of these companies need that sort of innovation to remain relevant.
What Razer did on the Razer Blade is a step in the right direction except for the price point and specs . But hey you cant get everything right when you are just starting out. -
I do not represent Alienware, I just think it's rude to say an entire line is going to fail because you personally dislike the look. If everyone thought the same thing, I might tend to concede and say it would impact them in a negative way, but right now, quite a few people actually like the new look, me included. We have differing opinions, and I say it's fine to have those, as long as you don't use it as an excuse to insult others or condemn companies, you're not the only one buying their machines.
All I'm saying is, you can like or dislike it, just like I can. I apologize if I cam off the wrong way.
I really don't think they'll keep the pink touchpad - or that there even was one in the first place. Are we sure it wasn't just a matter of wrong color correction on the add? Hell, if it's lit up, then it's customizable, and from what I can understand, pink is one of the select-able colors through Alien FX - so I'm more than sure the color can be changed..
-
I'd love that but from the few pics I've seen it better at least be only backlit and not just pink, nothing against pink it just looks out of place on an AW laptop and not my style. If anything I wish they just have a good quality touchpad I can live with it not being backlit.
-
Nope it only comes in pink with no option to change it ..
Pink= Alienware's all new design philosophy.
Built for men and women who love pink by men and women who love pink.
Sounds like some sort of alternate reality.
Trust me when i say this and i am willing to bet the farm on it that you will have a choice of color changes.
It will either be Pink or bright purple.
 -
I did not say or mean that exactly the way you interpret it - it was my point of view and my opinion only, I may well be wrong but that is how you took it and I thought you represent them in any way so you feel statement as such - insulting ... LOL
Im good with you, I dont ever judge any person or company for their steps, Im just a consumer and I watch the space and development progress as it unfolds and I feel free to comment on how I feel about it, but not judging in any way.
Lets hope so, but if it stays PINK for good, it will be the one laptop I wont be able to think about as an upgrade no way!
LOL
-
Yes there is just no way in heck that will be the default color so i would not even worry about it, how people are thinking OMG THE SKY IS FALLING AND ITS ALL PINK are delusional if they think it will be that way, no offense
.
There has to be a logical explanation for the picture and since that is in no way a picture of the absolute final production model we have nothing to worry about.
Maybe pink will be a color choice but that is all. -
I know your right it's just that image made me gag when I first seen it.
-
Something I've just noticed about that picture. Does anyone else see the slight bezel highlight along the bottom edge of the LCD panel? If that is what I think it is, the matte/IPS rumours might actually hold some weight. Also, the LCD surround doesn't actually reflect anything. You can see the top of the keyboard reflected in the LCD, but it doesn't continue through to the surround. Looks like they might indeed have done away with the edge-to-edge glass.

I hope you're right but notice the alienware writing is on (lower part of the screen)?
That laptop is on with the screen off. -
Gotta offer something for the ladies you know
-
Didn't really notice until you pointed it out, it has to be backlit with FX options or it Alienates
a lot of potential customers.
That's all well and fine by me as long as I can turn them off, that is the touchpad backlighting not the ladies
-
I hope we can also dim the light on the touchpad also, that is one of the things I dislike. It's too bright sometimes.
-
We wouldn't want to get in your way Kratos.
-
Did anyone notice that the desk surface in the left side of that photo is the same color of pink as the touchpad everyone is so worried about? I'm thinking it is some sort of really odd room lighting or something wrong with the color balance in the photo itself.
-
so the edge to glass looks like its gone? and in the r5 pic wth did they put a black rubber strip at the top for lol its starting to make me laugh
So perhaps it was just the shell and no lcd in touchpad area and the pink mat appears to be the lcd?
and by lcd i mean the illuminated touch pad razer blade wanna be thing -
Pretty sure you can. If we couldnt, they would lose a lot of customers
Dude, nice catch. You can see a line cutting that pink stripe from the rest of the stripe on the left side. Is that a LED stripe that you can customize to what colour you like? Or is it just the lighting in the picture. Strange because I can see a vertical stripe which to me reveals that its a different part than the rest?
-
I think that colour is accurate (insofar as it's not supposed to be black or something). If you have a look at the press shots Cloudfire posted, you'll see red-ish trackpads there too. The colours will definitely be changeable though.
-
Still cant get over how nice that laptop looks.
-
lol sorry i didn't write clearly MR fox I was trying to say maybe the laptop isn't fully assembled yet. and that the touch pad/ mouse pad region is a hollow space. the mat the laptop is sitting on top of is pink. so perhaps the pink matt fills in the hollow space/ mouse pa area making it appear to be pink like an optical illusion
-
Me neither. It looks really good. Im buying a new notebook very soon and this notebook is high up in the contestant list. Its like a Asus G-series on steroids.
-
Yeah, My choices are between the G750 or the M17x, both with 780M's. Both look great, Alienware has more flashiness with the lights though.
-
so you like that black rubber strip or line on the lid? dont u think itd be better all alloy?
and u think the black sections will be soft touch or hard plastic? whats your guess -
I'm sure they'll be soft touch.
And you can probably remove that strip and do some custom work yourself, if its such an annoyance. I think it blends well, and it probably serves a purpose beyond aesthetic appeal. Ever consider it may help keep the lid from touching the chassis? -
fair assesment
im telling you im so tempted to get an m18x r2
they are super discounted right now i bet i could grab one for about 26 hundred but i want an m17x r5 too i feel wrong and indulgent
i think my biggest fear is a plastic/metal chassis on the 18inch r3 itd be a real shame and definitely increase the lust value of the r2 version
oh but a few things are no longer available like the nebula red finish or the custom name plates or the xm cpu so idk -
Might be worth it still. You can always upgrade. But it's now or never because once that R3 hits the market, parts are going to become scarce as time passes.
-
The current M18x (r2) is made of metal. Just food for thought on your decision. The m17x and m14x are all plastic though right now
-
-
hey wheres the power button and thats too small :O maybe its the 11x? and ya, doesnt look like backlit to me now
more like a cover. At the bottom of the pad, it looks like it can be peeled from there. The keyboard looks like the keys have been printed on it, so no alien fx
but since the "ALIENWARE" is white i guess it might be white alien fx but i have never seen it so white, my white looks kinda faded ish in daylight and stuff. I think we are gonna have the lights on the front, u can see at the bottom of the pic, the triangular cut, which is same in the current version, so heres my ideology -
alien fx same as the previous version more or less
changed the lid,
changed the keyboard
changed the mouse pad [ look at the buttons ]
changed the back.
i like the triangle thing on the lid, but i prefer the smooth curves, looks more professional
ppl check out the palm rest area, its shining, no way thats plastic, looks premium !!!! -
You can't pull details like that from a press shot. They're illustrative at best, completely photoshopped at worst (LG's "bezeless" monitor, anyone?).
-
As the OP has stated, this is a picture of an M17x and NOT the new M18x.
I really like the new design, however there are a few things that do concern me.
The apparent lack of front grills w/ AlienFX, and the apparent half plastic/half metal on the sides of the laptop where the ports are. The absence of a keyboard trim is another one of my niggles too.
You can kind of tell that Alienware have kept the AlienFX keyboard in the pictures because you can just about see a coloured glow eminating from the keyboard (which means they may not use the keyboard shown in the first sneak peak).
Although these sneak peaks/prototypes look really good, aesthetically speaking it seems that Alienware have set the bar pretty high with their 2012 lineup and in my opinion I think they may have come short in their 2013 lineup if I were to just go by the leaks provided so far.
The good thing about Alienware is the upgradability so if we don't like the newer model we can just upgrade our current model, save money and get about the same performance. -
45 pages just based on rumors, whats gonna happen after E3
-
There will be a 45-page "Configuration Questions" thread, clearly.
-
LOLOL so true
additionally over the years technology has only gotten better so if its performance your after im sure they only way to go is up -
Configuration questions?
M18x R3
4930MX
2x 780M in SLI
2x 256gb SSD in Raid0
16gb of RAM.
What more do you need? (Besides the $5000+ to purchase that config...)
Sneak peek on the upcoming M17x and M14x
