Hey, I just got my new M17 in Friday. Been loving it so far but I have a few concerns. As of today I noticed my CPU at a steady temp of 51C while idling on a desk and 64C idling on my lap. Is this normal? I have the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9100 2.26GHz. Another concern of mine is as of recent my sound will occasionally being to crackle. One final issue is just now my boot time (during the windows loading bar) is a bit longer than usual.
Finally I wanted to know if there was a BIOS update and if so where could I find it? Thanks.

update you sound drivers and chipset.
-
i idle with a t9400 at 37c just saying a quad may runnin hotter
the load times will get slower with the more you install. -

i idle at 51c with my t9400. but i dont know about the load times since i dont have the alienware software and stuff.
-
jez don you may wanna re apply that thermal paste lol

i'm selling it by mid week n i'm not using much right now and i dont have much thermal paste so i'll wait.
-
lol im using it in my lap on the desk at idle i do about 28-31c.....
good luck with the new cpu btw -

thanks i need it.
but avonin, what is your temps on a desktop? -
I idle at 45c on passive cooling.
Download newest Realtek drivers here:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
I dunno about boot times, I never noticed.
I believe there is no new Bios update. -
Currently I'm:
-Downloading Startcraft
-Running WoW (All settings max) Minimized
-Uninstalling useless Language Packs
-Using Stardock's DeskScape with an ocean desktop (1280x1024)
and my temps are as follow:
CPU: 54-64C
GPU1: 58C
GPU2: 54C
HDD: 49C -
-
CPU is a little high but its under use right now so thats not so bad but its a quad and puts out more heat so you should be fine ...the temps are not bad at all so i wouldn't worry. The only thing you can do is get a notebook cooler and re apply the thermal paste
-
Scratch that, CPU is jumping as high as 70C while WoW is maximized.
Edit: I just worry cause Everest claims 60C+ is critical with beautiful flashing red bars and fire icons. Really makes me uneasy lol =\ -
60c is not much to worry about, but why the CPU is 70c in WoW is unusual.
-
i only hit 50c running around mulgore for 10 mins
-
sounds like you need to re apply thermal paste .... its not transfering heat underload well
-
-
Do you mean CPU or GPU?
-
CPU
GPU is anywhere from 50C-60C -
your gpu should be hitting 70-85c
-
-
I remember reading somewhere that WoW was more CPU based than GPU based. Could that be it?
I know I may come across as a noob but I can assure you I'm VERY well versed in just about everything in computers save hardware =\ -
Meh, I'm noobish too, but if WoW is more CPU centric, then that maybe explains it?
-
no i just played for bout a hour and highest i've hit is 51 c but my gpus have hit 82 and 81 c
he should not be hitting 70c with his cpu in WoW
can you download HW monitor and post a screen shot? -
Funny, his CPU and GPU temps are swtiched then.
-
thats why i asked for a screeen shot lol speedfan does not report very well.
-
note: I was previously using Everest Ultimate 5.00 to report temps -
-
-
those temps do not look bad at all the cou is under load so its ok
-
Hmm, both CPU and GPU temps seem consistant.
Do you have 3DMark06? If you do, you should run that and post temps while running that. -
So in Everest Ultimate, would changing my TJMax Temp value change the icons? Or is that something else?
EDIT: Nvm I see what it does. -
I do not =\
-
-
Yeah I just wanna change my everest sidebar gadget to display data that scales from 0c-100c as opposed to 0c-60c so it freaks me out less =P
Also I guess that's a no on the BIOS update? Cause I noticed I can't use my touchpad unless I stop using my keyboard which kills me in CS:S and forces me to use my mouse. -
There should be a sensitivity tab in the window, click that and you will see two sliders. One should be sensitivity to your palms, set that to the highest sensitivity setting.
-Hope that helps! -
yes the drivers suck it happens all the time
there is a saposed bios update that will allow for overclocking so maybe it will fix that??!?!?!
-
Meh I'll have to try it later. Thank you so much for your time. I was just a little concerned is all. I went from using an iMac with minimal specs to a ing powerhouse PC. I really don't know what to expect from it. I'm far from wealthy and treating this M17 as an overcautious parent would treat a newborn child. =P
-
-
Haha so true.
-
lol im not that bad but i do keep hwmonior running every game session and im not voiding the warrenty just for the mobo
-
Odd, it's sitting around 60C whilst idling too =\
-
Which one?
-
i still say you need to re apply the thermal paste
i havent hit over 60c ever any game. yours is a quad but i dont think it is gonna idle 15c more -
-
exactly
[ten characters] -
yea......but its really the only option. It does seem the problem, but he cant fix it so owell i guess theres not much more to say then get a notebook cooler
i idle at 34-37c on the desk -
them temps are nothing to worry about.
-
forget that i posted that into wrong post sorry
i got 37 on my core and 43 on hdd, but laptops been left on all night. -
My CPU ranges from 50-65 when under stress and GPU around 65-80.
Do you believe i need to reapply thermal paste too?
Ps this is even with a notebookcooler..
[edit] crap...i can't do the thermal paste reapply myself since that voids warrenty
