Hey, I just got my new M17 in Friday. Been loving it so far but I have a few concerns. As of today I noticed my CPU at a steady temp of 51C while idling on a desk and 64C idling on my lap. Is this normal? I have the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9100 2.26GHz. Another concern of mine is as of recent my sound will occasionally being to crackle. One final issue is just now my boot time (during the windows loading bar) is a bit longer than usual.

Finally I wanted to know if there was a BIOS update and if so where could I find it? Thanks.

    Currently I'm:
    -Downloading Startcraft
-Running WoW (All settings max) Minimized
    -Uninstalling useless Language Packs
-Using Stardock's DeskScape with an ocean desktop (1280x1024)

and my temps are as follow:
    CPU: 54-64C
    GPU1: 58C
    GPU2: 54C
    HDD: 49C

CPU is a little high but its under use right now so thats not so bad but its a quad and puts out more heat so you should be fine ...the temps are not bad at all so i wouldn't worry. The only thing you can do is get a notebook cooler and re apply the thermal paste

Scratch that, CPU is jumping as high as 70C while WoW is maximized.

Edit: I just worry cause Everest claims 60C+ is critical with beautiful flashing red bars and fire icons. Really makes me uneasy lol =\

60c is not much to worry about, but why the CPU is 70c in WoW is unusual.

It jumped to about 70C occasionally, for the most part it's 59C-64C while in WoW

I remember reading somewhere that WoW was more CPU based than GPU based. Could that be it?

I know I may come across as a noob but I can assure you I'm VERY well versed in just about everything in computers save hardware =\

Meh, I'm noobish too, but if WoW is more CPU centric, then that maybe explains it?

no i just played for bout a hour and highest i've hit is 51 c but my gpus have hit 82 and 81 c

he should not be hitting 70c with his cpu in WoW

can you download HW monitor and post a screen shot?

Hmm, both CPU and GPU temps seem consistant.
Do you have 3DMark06? If you do, you should run that and post temps while running that.

So in Everest Ultimate, would changing my TJMax Temp value change the icons? Or is that something else?

EDIT: Nvm I see what it does.

Yeah I just wanna change my everest sidebar gadget to display data that scales from 0c-100c as opposed to 0c-60c so it freaks me out less =P

Also I guess that's a no on the BIOS update? Cause I noticed I can't use my touchpad unless I stop using my keyboard which kills me in CS:S and forces me to use my mouse.

Goto the Alienware Command Center and goto the Touch tab.

There should be a sensitivity tab in the window, click that and you will see two sliders. One should be sensitivity to your palms, set that to the highest sensitivity setting.

    -Hope that helps!

Meh I'll have to try it later. Thank you so much for your time. I was just a little concerned is all. I went from using an iMac with minimal specs to a ing powerhouse PC. I really don't know what to expect from it. I'm far from wealthy and treating this M17 as an overcautious parent would treat a newborn child. =P

My CPU ranges from 50-65 when under stress and GPU around 65-80.

Do you believe i need to reapply thermal paste too?

Ps this is even with a notebookcooler..

[edit] crap...i can't do the thermal paste reapply myself since that voids warrenty :(
