I have a question to people who sent m15x to repair...did you receive tracking number when yours m15x was going back to you?
-
WOW, that really convinced me NOT to buy this laptop. I was actually looking at grabbing one for LAN parties, thanks OP!
-
I am pretty sure I am still going to buy this why because this thing is my only option. And it is 1.2" thick right?
-
1.5" thick is the true height, alienware only measures from the side, not the true top of the laptop
-
I was eyeing this one for awhile but after reading through this thread..., looks like I'm back in the market for a tablet instead.
Shame on AW for using such cheap material for the price they're asking for. It's like finding out Ferrari is using Ford engines... -
mine is 6 months old and still intact however with the creaking it makes I'm rather nervous.
-
66 pages later and this thread is still going strong.
only thing is wheres milcs? -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
he went and got himself one of those generic pcs... oh, so did you.

Guys,
Does anybody have that problem (as me) http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=253432&page=2.
At least five owners does have
cheers -
I actually just cancelled my M15x for an M17. Largely due to this one thread, and the forums in general.
I'm sure the M15x is rather solid now, but I've got more piece of mind with the M17. -
well im just gonna add that i too have a hinge problem now
what shuould i do???!!!
-
Listen everyone i feel HOPELESS.... I am becoming very upset about my m15x
while in class i have been constructing some problems that i am prepaaring to email and tell them...
"Check:
Screen Mount is coming apart from normal use
Screen also makes too much noise and is too wabley and is UNSTABLE…
For a $4000 computer, I should not have a screen that shakes back and forth… it should be adjustable according to how much I move it, not that I move it backwards and I have to move it further back than I want it because I know it will bounce forward … POOR DESIGN…
The hinges on each side are separating and coming apart and squeaking…This thing need to be fixed…
Also: The built in microphone is fuzzy and should be replaced, as well as a computer engineer, I am also an audio engineer…So I've tested it with a number of programs and I Know what I am doing…
The built in speakers cause a vibration between the speakers, the metal grid on top of the speakers, and the plastic casing that is on top of the speakers … This means that I always have to hold the speakers down when they are producing sound in order to prevent the vibration noises that happen… Please fix this without covering the speakers which obviously would result in causing the speakers to be of lesser quality and volume than they already are…
The Casing on the open area of the laptop has been separating from the body of the laptop... (This is the area where your hands go when you are typing, It is basically the top cover of where the key board is, well like I said, it is COMING APART) This should also be replaced with a new casing that is not coming apart.
On the software hand, I was PROMISED multiple times by the last ALIENWARE Representative i spoke with that as soon as vista 64bit support was available online that i would be shipped the OEM operating system from Alienware AS well AS the support disc for it... and now I am hearing every excuse except for "We will send you the disc"
Obviously there have been some factory defects with this computer that unfortunately I found out about after I purchased and received the system…
I have never put down the ALIENWARE name, I have always appreciated everyone at the company, and these are not complaints that I am just making due to customer un-satisfactions. They are just simply facts and problems with the system that I have had since I purchased the system and I believe that they should be fixed… Especially when we are still paying off the notebook and its company is well known for some of the most luxurious laptops in the world. I'm sure you understand if you put yourself in my position "
it is obviouslyt not done but i just have a lot of problems and dont know how or where to start... -
im sorry dude ...no one had any idea when it first came out they got blind sided.... i never put down the name ether but they really screwed up on mine ....there amazing computers but the company falls short on so many things
-
If i havent owned it for a year yet... do think they would cooperatate if i could return it or something???
-
if you pay the restocking fee (15%), they might.

Guys I am not here to bash Alienware or anything. I'm just here to offer my opinion on why you should not buy the m15x.
It has the feel of being very fragile.
Not practical for class. When opened it feels like its 2 feet tall.
Reformatting the computer requires precision directions. Install one thing at the wrong time, and you basically have to re-do it.
poor customer service. Its almost like they are trying to kill the company they work for with their pissy attitudes and lack of knowledge.
The length of buying-building-shipping your computer. Back-orders aren't supposed to happen every week.
If your in public it represents a "total" nerd computer. The cool factor is only for other computer savvy people.
Its lifespan won't last 2 years with the build quality.(Hinges, Plastic Body, Heat/Fan Issues)
Turnaround time from getting it serviced... Can you survive without your laptop for weeks at a time?
So just safe yourself the buyers remorse and go buy something else. -
I also decided not to go with an M15x and instead order a M17. Month later it seems to be a solid well made laptop thus far. Happy with it for sure!
EDIT: Should have mentioned I switched from my original plan to purchase a M15x to a M17 primarily due to this thread. -
welcome to the forum and congratz. if you dont have the m17 yet when you get it you'll love it
btw all computer companys have issues .... AW just dropped the ball on the m15x at first but most of them recently have worked good so at least there trying in the manufactoring depo....CS thats another story -
Is the scullcap design "immune" to the hinge breakage?
-
-
I seriously doubt the hinge will break though. -
Got a few questions:
1. Does anyone know roughly how many people in the NR forums have had issues with their scullcap hinge?
2. Would the laptop survive if I opened and closed the lid, say 5 times a day for 3 years?
3. Also, is there alot of flex on the scullcap lid?
I want to buy a m15x but the problems are holding me back. An AW sales support person said they had addressed the problems. Has anyone in the UK bought a scullcap m15x in recent months? -
notice that the last time milcs updated the first thread was on the 12th august so there could be a lot more we dont know about. -
-
He got his laptop less than 2 weeks ago and his hinge is creaking now.Not sure if there is a "fix" at all.
-
Where exactly does the creaking usually come from? Is it the flex of the plastic or rubbing of the plastics when opening and closing? -
the hinge is so tight it causes the plastic to flex and rub. some have put skins on there laptop(cha) and some have said wd-40 works good.
-
How are you people handling your m15x? Hinge creaking may not be your fault but you might want to ask yourself how well you're taking care of your laptop. About 8 months now for with my m15x and not only has my hinge endured but it shows no sign of breaking whatsoever. Just maintain your m15x, you'll be fine.
-
-
ok... but i take care of everything i own...i have like ocd... and my hinges are cracked and most of the time i have it closed on an external screen sooo... i am going to get my girlfriends mom to call alienware, she is one of those people that you would hate if your the one behind the counter...but hey she ALWAYS gets whatever she wants...haha
-
wtg use some peeple lol

so my hinge broke a while back and I sent my m15x in for repairs on the 18th of February. I now have a tracking number that states it'll be delivered by the 24th. Assuming my ownership of this computer started the moment I hit the buy button, AW has had my computer for about 25% of that. Yargh, maybe I'm just unlucky with part waits. I hope that it'll be perma fixed this time around.

I've had my m15x for a little over a year, and i have a 3 year warranty on it, and i've seen cracks on it for the past few months, but didn't really think too much of it. but yesterday when i opened the top, i heard a really loud creaking sound and the bottom of the frame surrounding the screen just popped off...
i've emailed alienware but have yet to get a response. -
ohhh that sucks now when you send it in you should the "new" hindges
-
Amen Brother, My girlfriend's mom is the SAME WAY! Girlfriends phone sucked, 1.5 years until contract expired. Phone wasn't broke, she just hated it. T-Mobile wanted her to pay retail price as the phone wasn't broke and she was OUT of contract. Needless to say after about 10 minutes on the phone with her mother T-mobile was sending a new phone from another manufacture for 20 bucks! ahahahahha Just goes to show what having a backbone does! lol -
well, i just received a reply telling me to send the m15x back so they can do "repairs". but from what i've read so far, those "repairs" apparently aren't that great.
do you think it would be possible for them to just give me a refund for it? -
If you haven't yet, get in touch with Roswell. They operate weekdays, 9am-6pm EST.

i received an email from someone from the "Electronic Support". Would it be better to talk to someone from the Roswell Group?
-
Most Definitely!
-
Alright, so i emailed the Roswell Group. Just a matter of waiting for a response now...
-
roswell is wayyyyyy better and no you will not get a refund .... and the hindges are alot better we have very few owners post about their hidges as of late and most of them that do have older m15x's. send it in lol
-
well, i got mine a little more than a year ago, pretty much when it first came out.
-
yea if you send it back in you "should " get the newer hindges , they seem to last longer because i have seen alot less OMG my hindges broke" threads
-
I sent mine in for hinge repair and my ehternet card. It took so long waiting for panel parts that they had to make me a new sytem from scratch. Just got it today. It is funny they have parts to make a new system but no parts to repair an old system.
Make sure before you send it in that they have the parts in stock for repair, and that they give you a gauranteed turn around time that you can quote them when things start running behind.
Good luck.
