The hinge problem still is going on unfortunately. Mine busted a few weeks ago after almost a year of usage.

I am having a media card problem, and of course , an audio problem...When i transfer data from the card reader my computer suddently lags (cant even move the mouse) till it has finished transferring the data. Also, i ve updated to bios x36 but i am still having audio popping issues. Does somebody know how to fix this or at least what is causing it.

If they fix the real issues they can put etch Mr. Spock's face into the chassis for all I care. Plus you should check out my cherry red and black brushed aluminum MSI with the WASD keys all outlined in red with arrows on it. Son, I don't think you know what "nerd" is.

    Hey everyone.

    First things first..

    Hello, nice to meet everyone!

Been trolling your information for a few days now, and decided I still had a few questions, and was wondering if anyone could help.

Benn looking into the M15x quite a bit now and threads like this haven opened my eyes to maybe not actually taking the plunge.

I was wondering if things are still as bad as they where, and even if they have gotten better, is it worth getting one at all??

I have read that the hinge problem doesn’t seem to be as bad in some of the newer M15x's, is that true?

Even if it is, what about the other problems it was plagued by?

Basically, I’m wondering if, in short, it’s still a "STAY CLEARRRRR RUNNNNN!!!" situation, or if things have improved sufficiently that it may be worth taking the plunge?

Either way I think I will be waiting the few days to see what the allpowerful is like, but I can see that being an allpower price as well.

    Thanks in advance everyone! :)

I am not sure about the hinge of the recent batch of m15x. However, I doubt there's any improvement at all.

Nevertheless, if you need the raw power and battery life (Smart bay) combination, there's no rival for the m15x at the moment.

Yup. But every thread about the m15x still eventually turns into "get a Sager."

I would hold out, since the new laptop will be out soon, but I do love my m15x but I have only had it for three months so far

    Yea, 7 or 8 days I believe?

Is that a global date for release, or is it just US only.

I was planning to wait, just to see what it is like, but I just though, there isn't much point if it is a US only date.

Anyone know if that is the case??

You know what is sad. This thread is still around and people are still having the same issues. But yet people still keep buying the M15x in hopes of getting a good one. How pathetic is that. It seems quality in just about everything is down these days.

Part of it is that Alienware is continuing to tell people that the issues are fixed.

For example, despite continued reports of broken hinges on NBR, a Dell/Alienware rep told me, "Okay, so From what I was able to find out they are making those differently, so that issue should be corrected."

Wow. Wish I had seen this, or knew about this forum before I bought this piece of crap. I bought mine less than a year ago, but not before this thread was made. So sad for me. I wouldn't have bought it had I seen this. I have the exact same hinge problem. That and a power issue are the only ones I've seen. My computer very rarely simply won't boot up. Generally I have to reseat the memory and it seems to fix it. Not sure why, but that's what seems to do it.

Oh well..sucks for me. I'll be turning mine in for service when I get back home. I'm in AFG right now so not so easy to get turned into them. Plus it's my only computer and I need to use it until I can get a new one. Sigh.

I still would've gone for the m15x looking back. I wanted this hardware in a 15' with a back-lit keyboard and only Alienware were offering it. However I did take heed of these posts and got a 3 year warranty.

Good thing too as you can now add me to the list of users who have a busted hinge! Happy to provide photos, but I think at last count the number of users with this problem was 32 anyway which is huge by forum standards if not for customer standards.

I'd also like to point out that Alienware reps only started commenting on these forums once they saw that this was the place for disgruntled owners and that we were not going away.

I really hate this type of customer policy i.e. 'sweep the problem under the rug and hope it will go away'. Thank-god for these forums. Adds weight to my argument against Alienware as a company.

My 2nd (work) power-supply also exploded 2 weeks ago. Not covered by 3 year warranty either, which I find ridiculous. And don't even get me started on their inability to cut a simple hole for a security lock in the chassis.

Actually writing all this has just made me mad again.

    Grrr!

    EDIT:

I should make it clear though that Alienware Australia have been very prompt in their assistance with the numerous m15x issues. My problem isn't with the customer service, but more the marketing and Alienware corporation as a whole i.e. not admitting to problems and fixing them.

Well... I stopped at 32. But since then, I think everyone just lost count. In fact, as I mentioned several times, this is a problem that the majority of owners have experienced. Not an isolated case or not only a problem that will affect a minority of m15x.

Unfortunately, AW tried to silence and ignore this problem in many different ways.

    - One example... when I almost got banished from this forum when I tried to start a thread regarding the hinge problem. The thread was blocked and I was threatned... Obviously, a specific thread regarding the hinge problem was not something AW desired to see (and whoever else AW can "manipulate").

    - A little while after that, I sent my laptop back for repairs (which were quite simple, to be honest), and AW USA phoned me saying they wouldn't carry on with my repair request and they would just return the money instead. Even if I said I didn't want the money, I wanted the laptop... they just simply refuse to keep me as a client. I guess that I haven't the right to complain about a product that is not made up to good standards.

ANd these are just some few examples that I've been involved personally.

Hopefully, the next m15x will be a solid and decent laptop. Hopefully, Dell won't disrespect their costumers as AW did, back in the days.

called tech support after having customerservice people tell me it wasn't something they could answer and I should call tech. The best answer I could get from "frank" was that he was not aware of this problem but if I buy a laptop and have a problem they will support it.

...he was being snarky because I didn't own a laptop but i was calling techsupport.

Just wait for the new M15x... If it turns out to be like the big brother, M17x, it will be a decent laptop (although, overpriced...). The old m15x is NOT a good option. It wasn't, it isn't and it will never be.

I saw the new AW notebooks and i must admit that something changed (maybe thanks to milcs!).Better quality and a serious cooling system.
Until now gaming notebooks (more or less all notebooks brands) reach gpu temp too high (near 100°C after 2hours of intensive play) expecially with 15" notebook (in my opinion too small for gaming purpose).

Perhaps somebody should change the original title of the thread to m15x or old m15x or whatever and add a proper disclaimer to the main post to avoid confusion with the new All Powerful Alienware M15x laptop.

Yah this thread is not related to the new and improved Alienware models. Just a bunch of people growling and confusing the old crap for the new hotness. Damn Dell for naming things the same! Was M16x and M18x taken? :)

I like this confusion because now everybody must admit such differences between the past alienware notebooks and new DELL notebooks. I think also Asus gaming notebook need a lot of help by Dell :D
