Those 5870's are supposed to be BEASTS!
I know you'll be glued to your desktop once you get 'em. lol
Hopefully the refresh will a have a gpu surprise as well![]()

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
5870's for what system please i need an update when they come out and they will work with m17x?
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
For Alienwares new 12 inch laptop.
-
Sorry -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
-
Yeah thats why i put that in my comments because i knew it would be taken the wrong way
.. i like everyone else would rather have them for the laptops since i spend far more time on my M17 then i do my desktop
My desktop is my workhorse more or less and desktops are already so powerful there really is not much challange to get games to run well on them since theres so much power avaialable.

MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
That 12" netbook makes a lot of sense, especially since Dell is missing a netbook that most people can consider usable in their lineup
. HP is coming out with a 12" netbook with NVIDIA ION graphics for $400, hopefully Alienware can manage to go beyond that, though the 9400M is pretty capable. A dual core ULV processor and a 9600M or comparable/better would be a must buy for me, for under $800. I actually wish I had a desktop and a netbook instead of my MacBook Pro, though I'll wait at least another year until I consider selling it. I would definitely buy a capable Alienware netbook, or even better, a UMPC. The most practical design for an Alienware netbook would be:
12.1" LED backlit capacitive multi-touch screen (multi touch really makes a difference, especially at this screen size.)
9400M NVIDIA ION Graphics
Intel ULV Dual Core CPU
Starts at $499-$599
I'd probably buy an Alienware netbook with those specs or better. Changing anything I've listed could really be a dealbreaker for me. -
Man, a 12" netbook from Alienware would pretty much send my Eee PC out of my house immediately.
It would be perfect to link that to my M17x instead of my Eee PC.
*crossing fingers for a 12" or a mini desktop" -
It is possible for a 12 incher but I don't think AW is going to sell any notebook under 1k, however if they did I would be first in line
-
for any one saying its a DX 11 5870
it aint happening ATI hasn't even done anything with it
not yet
........ -
them r a fightin words ...
-
lol
i revised it
it is coming just not at launch -

I would not mind a 12" note/netbook with AW theme. It would compliment my M17x. So long as it had the best features of a netbook, e.g., long battery life and slim formfactor. Sept 24 is only 8 days away lolol

Mini Moo ? -
i want the m15x with core i7 mobile and the 5870 gddr5 gpu lol.
-
am I still the only one thinking of the fact the fastest mobile i7 is only 2GHz?
Anyway, yea, if they released a 12 inch netbook I'd suspect very high performance. If they have one I'd suspect a 9400M ION system plus a 9300M dedicated in Hybrid SLI or better. (Seeming as the Asus N10 already managed to stick a 9300M in a 10 inch netbook) And providing it was affordable I'd probably get one -
OC'd, the fastest mobile i7 is over 3GHz
That's like saying the fastest mobile C2 quad is only 2.43GHz... -
Plus this is not JUST a proc upgrade. People don't get that.
-
That's overclocked which will 1. eat power, and 2. create a LOT of heat looking at the already higher TDPs.
I really hope it's got M17x caliber cooling in it if they're plonking an overclockable i7 into it.
-
You never said anything about heat and power -- just that the fastest was 2GHz.
I am sure the cooling system will be pretty beefy -- just like the M17x -
A stock 2GHz i7 may perform better than a stock QX9300 for all we know. -
It's not just you. The comment is just very common regarding the speeds of the mobile i7. I for one want to start playing with a proc with no fsb limits.
-
We have become accustomed to equating high clocks with better performance
This may not be as true with the i7's.... -
it will be relavant as long as applications are not quad optimized
-
If the desktop i7s are anything to go by, performance should be about 20% higher than a similarly clocked Core 2 Quad. (Presuming themobile i7s are 4 cores) Then there is of course overclocking, but that may not work brilliantly.
I guess we just have to wait and see. -
Don't worry, evil.
I'll be one of the first to test it! (Hopefully sooner rather than later)
And I fixed my previous post (meant to compare quad to quad)
-
would someone be kind enough to answer this question for me?...If it has not been asked already.
If the slowest I7 is 1.6ghz... how does it translate if I buy a game optimized for 2.5 ghz, etc? Is it fast enough?.. stong enough, and gosh darnit will people like it?..hehe. Thanks! -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Yes, the i7 is fast enough, it is a quad core, and more than likly the game is saying it is optimized for at least 2.5 ghz dual core.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
also, I wasn't aware that i7 had anything less than 2.6 ghz
-
Two, its a newer architecture, more efficient in terms of clockspeed.
Three, if all four cores arent being fully utilized, it can turn some off and overclock the rest.
So even the slowest 1.6GHz one should be plenty fast for games. -
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
oh, I stand corrected on that, but still a 1.6ghz quad core i7 will beat out a 2.5ghz dual core.
-
the slowest one:
Quad Core i7 Mobile i7-720QM - 1,60 GHz (cache 6 Mb, Turbo mode up to 2,80 GHz)
can overclock himself to 2.80Ghz, turning off eventually not used core (so no problem with one-core optimized programs/games)
BTW, they should have made also a whole better architecture, so the i7 should work better also with lesser Hz... -
Thank you all for the explanation. Making my decision alot easier.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
That's what we're here for.
-
ops, it was already answered...I was writing in the same time as you guys...
-
So this has probably already been answered but I can't find a clear response. If they release a 12 inch it will have a cpu comparable if not better to he qx9300, and the gpu will be on par? And would that be the same for a 15 or 16 inch?
Just want to get clear facts so i don't jump the gun and buy my m17x
Edit: Oh nvm. Just checked the 'landfall' topic and its going to be a m15x and not a 12 or 16 inch. -
So the M17x will most likely get better gaming performance than any single-card laptop for a long time. -
Is there any chance the m15x would be SLI then? I have no laptop knowledge at all(thus why im here
) so pardon my dumb questions.
-

-
There is no net book !

steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Your just jealous Moo.

Anyway, At best, the new M15x, if it has Nvidia GPU option with Nvidia integrated graphics, could use Hybrid SLI. I have seen Hybrid SLI provide a small boost on my M17x. -
there is always something coming.
ps that ad was done by a 2 year old playing on their dads computer the effects are cheap and highly crap.
what a crap ad......GET A GRIP AND SPEND MORE THEN 2 PENCE ON AN AD !!! -
Don't care what the ad looks like....
Just care about the refresh. -
Sorry a little late on this but everyone is seeing the i7 in the Blue alienhead as well right?

If you're talking about the eyes then yes.
