you should try calling them or as xpbballx99 was saying, email them about your status.....their website is way off in terms of order status accuracy.....I was on phase 3 for almost 3 weeks (or so the AW website say) but when I called them this morning, CS told me that my order is in phase 8 and that I should be receiving a shipping confirmation anytime soon  that's what I'm talking about.......you should have yours soon.

Well I followed your advice Lapu and called customer services. Looks like my order is still in phase 4 as per the webiste but I should be going into phase 5 very soon. They said once I've entered phase 5 it should go very quickly so I should have the laptop 5-7 business days from entering this stage. :)

No OEM does the fix - you have to do it yourself. Find it here:

It's not like you are going to have bad performance if you do not have the patch installed. Make sure you read that thread to understand why it is important to install the patch.

It seems like the screens are holding up a lot of notebook orders, and not only Alienware's. I waited four weeks for my ThinkPad to arrive because of screen problems.

    Hello,

I ordered the m9750 7/3/2007 and have been at Phase 3 since 7/5. When I ordered they had the expected ship date as 8/3..........who knows if this is going to happen since I confirmed on 7/31 that it was still at Phase 3.

I am not going to be doing any heavy gaming but will be using it more for graphics and video applications. It is probably overkill for what I will be using it for but I liked the reputation for AW, wanted a notebook that will give me plenty of good years performance and have not had good experiences with Gateway or HP notebooks. And - lets be honest here - it is a beautiful looking machine! :p Unfortunately, at this point I am wondering if I should just cancel and go with a Sony VAIO or a high end Dell notebook.

Also, I am questioning my decision to stay with WindowsXP Media edition. Should I just take the leap to Vista now? I figure if I stay with the AW there is plenty of time to make that change since it doesn't seem like they are in any hurry to start the build.

Basically - this is taking soooo long that I have been given plenty of time to question my purchase.... :(

Can those who care tell me whether they prefer windows vista or windows xp, and why? Also if I were to get SLI cards does windows vista suppose this? Also would I have to go through the steps to update my drivers so both cpus are being used like you would with xp as it was previous described earlier. Thank you all!

I got windows xp. And ya its an easy fix for the dual core for xp might take a minute or 2. I didnt notice a diffrence since 85 fps playing battlefield 2 is plenty and a few extra fps i didnt notice it so its a fix that you either wanna do or not have to do.

Why did i choose Xp? Well Xp is 100% workable without any problems. Vista is still needs some work to fix alot of the problems Personally when i need vista ill just go and buy it i say probly 70% of the people are still using xp lol. personally i like vista its something new but just not in the need for it right now.

SLI if you ment 2 cards work on vista? i think they released a fix for this can't confirm. if not 1 card is crazy enough while the fix comes.

Wow. It really does seem alot of laptops are getting out slow due to screen problems.

Any chance it may be the same reason the IFL90's are being slow to come from Compal?

I dont even think the sales agents that we email confirm anything right as they look on what we look the phase page lol. But i don't know if they might do those backordered items to gain time or what but ya. alot of backordered items they got.

In the sales people's defense, they probably had no idea there was going to be a delay so he told you what he thought was reasonable. Alienware, like many other large companies (*cough*Lenovo*cough*) does not have very good communication between the sales and the building departments.

You may only be seeing 2259MB due to a limitation of the chipset. Most manufacturer's sites state how much RAM your computer can see if 4GB is installed. I suggest emailing Alienware and asking them.

Your forgetting the Video Cards, they count to the 3.5 GB Limit, and you have SLi, which means you lost out in that department.

Does anyone have good options of a cooler for the alienware 9750/9700 laptops. I have been looking and done know what will help it out the most. Will simply elevating the laptop improve temperatures or having fans.

Does anyone have something substantial about the ram and how you can fix this?

The RAM is probably a chipset limitation. You might try asking in the Hardware forum about it to get a clearer answer.

Yes elevating the back of the laptop will help your temperatures. The best cooler for a 17" notebook is the Zalman NC1000.

Ok so I am getting ready to buy the 9750, but I just keep thinking that once I buy it, it will be a matter of weeks after that the 8800m will be released. I just can't get myself to submit the final order because this thought just keeps circling my mind. Does anyone have any real proof when this card is going to be released. No offense, but "I think it will be released on this day...." doesn't really help me out. I need to know what the word is among the industries and if there is a legitimate estimation when this card is going to come out. THank you all!

Youre not going to get it. (proof that is) I wouldnt even say you have proof if some Alienware rep got on here and said its coming next Tuesday. You just have to decide to jump in or wait till those cards are available and leave it at that. Ive followed these industries and releases and the day you really know something will be here, is the day it is. Few exceptions are those things with very anticipated releases by masses, like the Iphone, Playstation 3, etc.

And if you decide to wait, well, by the time they come out, there may be some better laptop out, maybe even by Alienware. Which could be a good thing. But then by that time, youll know about some other new component that may be offered in that laptop if you just wait a month, not to mention when something does just come out, theres a ton of people getting it so you have to wait cause "stock is backordered" etc. So the cards may come October 15th, then you order your computer from Alienware, and if you want THOSE video cards, then it pushes back your ship time 15 days or a month. And so you stick it out, then in that 30 extra days, Alienware announces a new laptop with Santa Rosa and the extreme chip and those same great video cards, for roughly the same price.

    Get my drift?

    d

it's just a never ending quest...I guess that's just how technology is going to be. Honestly at this point, I just want a SLI DX10 card....couldn't really care on processors. Anyhow; Sagar computers is supposedly saying the 8800m's are going to be "available" in about two weeks. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=137521&page=15

oh well, I give up...I will give it two more weeks and then that's it. Time to purchase and get it over with.

Is there a huge difference between 667 mhz FSB, 800 mhz , and 1066mhz. Alienware offers 667, but obviously as we all know by now, some companies are offering up to 1066. Is this much better and more importantly, practical. From what I understand the laptops are using desktop processors...is this any good for laptops in terms of durability and having this laptop last you for years?

i don't see why wait for new cards. 100% of the people are still gonna play with there current cards and not upgrade. The 7950 gtx card is a powerful card and i dont see any games out running a 7950 gtx.
Alienware Builds Notebooks/desktops that will make sure they last you years into gaming. the proccessor doesent hurt the labtop at all its made for labtops.

95% of the games are still made for dx9 and i don't think they would just switch to dx10 only as not many people will have or want to buy.

you gotta remember games are still a long while off of catching up to our m9750. Flight simulator x is hard to run. But i run it all high settings with 20fps witch is great and i don't see any other games gonna give us difficulty like that.

Just like ps3 or xbox360 you cant just go and upgrade after buy. its ment to handle games for years just like the m9750.

Yeah that's true xpbballx99, you really can't just go and upgrade a ps3 or xbox, but you can always upgrade a computer whenever you want (unless you are up to date with ALL the tech). I am looking for a computer that is going to last me for the next four to five years, and I am sure by then all games will be DX10. Sure there will be dx9 games, but what good is that in five years. Dropping $4000 or so isn't easy at all, especially when you purchase your own computer. So this turns into an investment. Just like any investment you still want to see it running at full strength down the road. Since the world is slowly making that jump into DX10, it becomes very important to protect that investment. Sure things are always changing and improving and you really can't always get the best things possible. The main things is that no one really knows the capabilities of DX10 yet. It's all about being right along the industry as they explore DX10 cards (not just for gaming). I assure you that "100%" of people not upgrading is a bit extreme. Anyhow, I can go on and on about this issue. What it comes down to is that it's a smart idea or get a DX10 card if you are going to be using a computer for more then three years. Then again it's always going to be a difference of opinions. In the meantime I think I will just wait until something newer and better comes out for alienware laptops.

    That's right,

like xpbballx99 and sequoia225 are telling..

Read a little about it on this forum, all answers are there.

i was thinking about a NP9260 a very strong notebook but if you look at he charger on that one, and also weight of the system.........not very nice to travel. you have to make decicions in life.

And the M9750 its a laptop with balls, for gaming, multimedia, and for a long time.........

Nice you be getting yours s00n :D

oH and didnt mean to really put 100% of people not upgrading i ment it in a way where people who just got there computer are not gonna spend money again upgrading. And same for people who are enjoying there notebooks/desktops without any problems. i Don't know about you but im not that person who buys every game that comes out i look mostly for war games as they are my favorite. and i can tell you games like battlefield 2 and 2142 have tons and tons of people playing them. and pretend something came out (wargame) for dx10 i wouldent really see anyone moving from there favorite game to a new game that just is dx10. i can gaurantee that you won't see any updates on it in about3+ years or more. as its still in the very very early stages) even if you do get dx10 card no games really out there to use it.} But its up to you just giving you my point of view :). tsk tsk just like vista and 70% of people went back to xp to out to early.

Hey, can you tell me what your original shipping date was and how different this is from that date. Like if its earlier, how much earlier....

hoping I will get mine earlier than the Sept 5th date they gave me.

    Hi,

Actually my original ship date was the 01/8 so my delivery is a little late. This was because my order was delayed due to payment issues, 10 days to be exact. To be fair though as soon as my order went to phase 4 its only taken around 9 days till the shipping date today. So you may be pleasntly surprised. :)

I know exactly where you're coming from, these last 4 weeks have felt like year. :(

I just hope that it lives up to my expectations but from everyone's input on these forums I'm sure it will do. Anything has to be better than what I'm using at the moment, I've come close to throwing this laptop out of the window from frustration twice this week. Delivery day can't come soon enough

The Spped in the Clevo D900C stems not from the faster FSB, but from the fater processors (Intel Core 2 Extreme), as for Stanta Rosa vs. Napa - the FSB speed increase doesn't make a notable difference, only real advantage is the support for newer processors and 4GB RAM
