    Whatever,
My roommate about 6 years ago ordered an Apple powerbook and it wouldnt fully boot first day opened and had to go back.
And I remember someone talking about a Dell Laptop that did the same thing back when I was getting this Dell that has lasted 4 years of hard daily use.

So what magical brand do you swear by that has never delivered a faulty laptop. I guarantee that this has happened with every brand of laptop. You think they just sent it off not checking that it booted up? It probably happened in shipping and has nothing to do with AW honestly.

The box wasnt that heavy and people dont know whats in it. It probably gets pretty tossed around.

i don't see anything wrong with alienware only that it needs little bit improvement in customer support. I can tell you this When you get your system in %100 working it is truely an amazing machine that you will enjoy day to day use. yeah when you get problems it is dissapointing but its a laptop not a human. alienware is gonna fix it just will take you some time talking to tech support so i don't see what the problem is hating on alienware.

my paintball gun is $1500 and i couldn't tell you how many times i had to send that thing back in nuttin is perfect people expect it with every company and oh sorry i kno it notebook forum just wanted to set an example.

sorry about ur m9750 sequoia but all things will be good in the end,

nice....nice....nice........nice analogy :D , a laptop quality being compared to a paintball gun build quality.........all's I'm saying is look at how many people have been having issues already with their M9750 :p .....don't you just get it that AW does not care about your laptop....it's your $$$$$ that they care about!!!!!!.......Geezzzzzzz talk about their inspection quality!!!!! huh! but hey it's your G's :D

People are having just basic problems. Probly easy fix.

yeah money is important to them but maybe there laptops worked fine when it was at there place? and got damaged in shipment who knows.

but you do know that they could get in very big trouble sending out every labtop broken right? so they will fix it and they know that. plus paintball gun is acually built metal and alamiun or how ever u spell it everything has problems ,) oh even my first desktop i got at local store stopped working like month later cause of a graphic card problem it had it was even more pain to contact techincal support considering you bought it at store and they gotta know everything. alienware already has your info everything and will always know what you got.//// but what ever you say man all companys are like this. yeah ppl having problems but pfft i wonder what doesn't have problems when first released. and its maybe 5 ppl out of who knows how many orders alot. so if you don't like alienware then don't buy it.

As you can see, I didn't opt for the extended warranty. I recieved an email from Alien offering them, at discounted prices. 195 for the 2 yr, 265 for the 3 yr. It's just a few pennies, but every little cent counts IMHO. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

BTW, can anyone tell me exactly what Phase 3 means. I've yet to see the money come out of my account and it's been like that for 5 days or so.

Personally, I would go with XP. It is a more stable and reliable operating system and is better for gaming. I switched back to XP from Vista after using it for six months and I have never been happier.
The Phases are misleading so if you really want to know what is going on with your order you should call. I am sure they would be able to answer your questions about billing too.

I would suggest an extended warranty on a system that expensive. Generally my rule of thumb is one year of warranty for >$1,000 machines, and 2 or 3 years for everything over $1,000. However warranties are personal preference.

That is a great configuration though, I wouldn't change anything else myself.

I did Chaz :) I took advantage of the 3 yr @ 265 USD. It was just a few dollars cheaper, but, that extra will buy my first game, Bioshock, that is, if they can figure the driver thing out with it :(

Good man, I think it is a wise idea to invest in an extended warranty.

Short story - two days ago a good friend of mine asked me to check out her laptop and I discovered that the backlight died in the LCD panel. I called HP for and they wanted $800 for the screen replacement. They didn't even want to fix it - they offered me a new laptop for $600 instead, discounted from $900. I didn't take the offer (wasn't ready to buy) but nonetheless, the laptop is less than three years old and had she gotten the extended warranty the screen replacement wouldn't have cost anything.

So I configured a Dell for her with the extended warranty, and hopefully that will prevent another episode like this.

EEP. I was holding out till I got back to the states (almost back in Cali now) to call and get my military discount, and use that for the warranty. But, with the discount they offered, I figure might as well. Hopefully, they will still honor the discount after production has started. I was assured by the rep they would, can't remember his name though.

BTW, Anandtech.com has a nice review of the M9750 just posted recently. I was unaware the production date on the LCD's was Jan 2005. I wonder if they ran out of supply as to lead to the back up there for a while. Anyway, check it out if ya get a chance.

Out of curiosity... With the amount of heat this little machine can create and fan out in the back. Is it possible it could hurt the power adapter or vga outputs?

I was thinking about this yesterday, I don't think the machine is any hotter then normal, but obviously with the power it does get pretty warm and you can easily feel that coming out the back. With a vga adapter plugged in back there, and also having the power supply plugged in back there. Those cables get hit with that heat. They get quite warm. I was wondering if this is a situation we should be worried about?

I just rang up customer support there and it seems the LightScribe DVD drives will arrive tomorow!

The fella on the phone said it would take another 7-9 days after that for the machine to be fully built and shipped.

Well atleast i know things are still happening.

    European Order btw.

I was looking into upgrading ram and I came across an interesting issue. I went to the Kingston site and figured out what type of ram I need. PCConnection has the kingston ram with pc5300 and tigerdirect has pc5400. Can Either one work? What is the deal with this pc5400, etc. What exactly is that talking about?

I think I read ths in that RAM article I posted that no one seems to be reading, but whatever the case, they are essentially the same. It had to do mostly with the companies rounding the number a bit differently for a sales tactic, cause the actual speed was not a round number. They should be the same.

I cant find that detail in this article so maybe I read it somewhere else, but this link is a good read anyway.

I know Ive read in at least 2 places that either will work fine and I know I read somewhere that it was more of a marketing technicality than anything.

    Hi All,

Are there any better graphics drivers to install other than the one's preloaded onto the laptop? I have a single 7950GTX and am running Vista home premuim 32bit.

    Cheers!

I am not sure if this driver is better or not,but it is at least as good. I downloaded the latest nVidia release driver from TweakForce (version 163.44) and an INF file for this driver from the same site. I ran 3DMark06 with it and got about the same score as my factory installed driver, but it supports SLi and fixes a stutter problem with the new game Bioshock. I am using it now for that reason since I have that game. Otherwise keep your old driver.

I ordered mine at the very end of July, and like many people, picked the lightscribe - I didn't know the hold up it would create. I've been on phase for for nearly a month. I called last week to ask about my order, and they said they were just waiting on the dvd drive to arrive, which would be sept. 5th. However, I noticed on the site yesterday that the wait for the drives was only 1 day. So, I called again, and found out that all the parts were in and that the system should move into production today. However, today, I checked my status online and I'm back in phase 3! Has this ever happened to anyone else? It seems really weird, but hopefully things are actually moving forward.

One last thing, is it really so problematic playing Bioshock on the m9750? I didn't spend £2,500 not to be able to play Bioshock on the thing. This is supposed to be an immensely powerful machine! Do the new drivers from the Bioshock site resolve these issues? I will be highly gutted if this system will struggle with games like Bioshock and future games, which are only going to be more intensive. I suppose it does depend on people system specs though? I ordered pretty much everything the highest possible, so hopefully it should work. I just hope I get it soon.

From my knowledge they move you back one phase before bumping you up atleast 2 phases or more. I've seen it happen to many people who posted here before that they went back to phase 3, only to see them repost the following day that they are now in phase 6-7!

So relax, and between you and me, I was on phase 4 too, and now i'm in Phase 3 today! So we're in the same boat, i ordered lightscribe too.

I rang them up and the lightscribe arrived yesterday.

So dont worry, im pretty sure that we'll both be put forward a few phases tomorow or the following day atleast. :)

I play Bioshock on my m9750 with no problems (everything maxed) and I am using only one 7950gtx with Vista 32. I had to install the latest nVidia driver and INF file from TweakForce to fix the stutter problem with this game but otherwise this machine runs all of my high end games quite well. Don't worry.

I would have thought that alienware would have installed all the latest drivers needed.

Or is your m9750 older than the more recent nvidia drivers?

You're right - I checked this morning and I'm now in phase 5! :D Hopefully things will move along pretty quickly from here. In other people's experience, how long does it normally take to get your system after you reach phase 5? lol I know I'm impatient but I've been waiting on this for so long

Thanks Loggie for clearing up the Bioshock issue. I would be rather ticked off if such a powerful new system had issues with games already.

Here at work at my studio, we do all the post production for the Showtime show Dexter. Most people here are mac lovers and only a few have even heard of Alienware. My friend is working on one of the new episodes and he knows all about my laptop and he pulled me into the room to show me a scene where a guy is laying on a bed using a laptop. The back of the screen is right in front of the camera and its an Alienware laptop. One of the older ones. Dont know which one, but thought it was funny.

I am playing BioShock at 1920x1200 with everything set to max and switched on except 'Force Global Lighting'. I haven't checked frame rates but it appears to run smoothly even after an hour of continuous play.

I had never seen it until I had to work on a few of the new seasons episodes. It did make me want to keep watching. It actually stressed me out while watching it quite a bit. Rumour is they are already on the internet if you know where to look. This is a big deal at my work. Security is VERY high at our place but when they found this out people are saying that Showtime may be the ones that put it on there themselves.
Anyway, they film it on our lot and we do the Dialog re-recording (ADR) and mixing and everyone on the show seems pretty nice. So yeah, all around it seems like a great show. Its a shame it leaked out but if Showtime did it, well then I guess thats fine.

Back on topic - I get my notebook back on the 5th and Ill explain the whole story then in a new thread - mainly because Alienware DID end up working to my satisfaction and Im very happy to report this and so I will make sure I give them props in a new thread when its in my hands again!!!

question about RAM for you all. Ive been warned from a guy at work to not get RAM through New Egg. He builds a lot of PCs and laptops and hes been screwed with them with non working RAM from there and they wanted a hefty restocking fee.

Soooo, he recommended buying from the local Frys Electronics. He recommended Corsair or Patriot

So I went to Frys, and the only 2 G modules they had were by some brand called "OC....." (I cant remember the name but the guy said the OC in the name stood for overclocking.)

Soooo, Im getting hung up on the brand issue again. I just dont know if I should care what brand. The RAM DEALS thread (or somewhere on this site) said not to buy the cheap OEM stuff.

    Any thoughts?

did we make it to 100???

That sounds like a bunch of rubbish. Newegg is a very reliable site, just take a look at their ResellerRatings page:
    http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Newegg
I spend a lot of money there and they have never let me down.

I wouldn't worry about anything. Just buy memory from a well known manufacturer that offers a lifetime warranty. If anything happens, simply get it replaced under warranty by the manufacturer. See the RAM DEALS page for the best RAM prices.

Ah... yeah .. WOW Big news from the Irish camp tonight!

I'm currently in Phase 5, moved from phase 4 there two days ago.

Rang up Alienware there now, asked them about the status of my order, was put on hold for about 15 seconds....

.... then she came back on the phone and *deeply apologised* to me because my laptop *just barely* missed todays postal delivery send offs and that it should be sent off tomorow!

Heres the best part of it!

    They're based in Athlone, Ireland!

    I'm from Ireland!

Total Postal time is less than a day!

    m9750 ETA 2 days! :D Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

And here i was ringing up expecting to hear best case scenario that i've moved to phase 6!

    Crazy stuff.

Mine was shipped out last Tuesday, and I still don't have it yet. I know it says 4-5 days, and is estimated on the 5th according to Fed-Ex, but damn. A letter through the USPS can make it to Fla in 3 days, but a laptop through a carrier takes over a week. Damn you Fed Ex.

Well i have to say "Muahahahah" to you im afraid :p

Since the Alienware Distribution centre happens to be only a 3 hour drive away from where i live ;)

Best estimate for me is that it will arrive tomorow :p

Worst estimate, the day after tomorow :p

(unless im screwed over again of course) ;)
