Mine has been in phase 4 now for just about a week.
Must ring them up then and see the actual phase its in thanks to the previous advice.
-
mine has been in phase 3 since.....well Thursday it will be one month. It is supposed to ship by Monday, and they keep telling me that it should. I have no idea how it will ship in a week, when it isn't even in preproduction. Does anyone know if parts get held for your computer in this phase? I hate watching things go on backorder and my machine not moving.
-
did you call them. I called and emailed them.
heres what they said in the email,
Thank you for contacting Alienware.
According to your account information, your order is currently in Phase 5 (Assembly) and it will take approximately 5-7 business days for it to be finished and ready to ship.
On the other hand, we would like to ask you to please disregard the information that you received from our website stating that your order had gone back to Phase 3.
Unfortunately, there has been a glitch in our notification system and the information you have received is not accurate.
This matter has already been taken to the corresponding department, and they are working to fix the problem as promptly as possible.
We would like to apologize for this misunderstanding.
As soon as we have further information about the movement of your order, we will be informing you via email.
Best regards, -
Haha I guess I will keep this going...anyone? I doubt it's that complicated
-
..........
-
i called last week and sent an email on friday (and again over the weekend). Both emails said estimated shipping date is the 27th, but it can change depending on parts. I replied. Thats a week away, and he replied, well "it is an estimate." It is in phase 3...not phase 4.....frustrating as I had lots of problems leading up to this (my 3rd attempt at an order) and can't tell if it is going to be soon or not, are my parts there, why is it not moving.
I do get to pick up Bioshock tomorrow that I preordered to play on this machine. Originally I would have had the machine almost 3 weeks ago and had it all set to go. Now I have nothing good enuf to run it on and no idea when I will be able to play it.......sigh. I know, its not quite the end of the workd, but I would just like a real answer.
No idea on your bluetooth question..... -
ahhh well hope you all get yours soon. Remember don't rush your order best way to avoid system problems. expect at least a good month wait.
-
How long does its from Phase 1 to Phase 2 ?
Sry, for my Bad english, i'm from Germany
-
Hi,
Does anyone know the response times on the WXGA and WUXGA screens on the m9750? -
Both are 25ms.
-
So is there noticeable 'ghosting' whilst gaming with such high response times?
-
I read in the firingsquad review that the WUXGA screens response time is 16ms?
I played the Tomb-Raider Anniversay demo the other day (the only game I've tried so far) and there was no ghosting anywhere to be seen. -
Yes, I noticed that as well... I hope it'd be the 16ms
-
BTW Omino, how was your buying process with the beast as I too would be buying it in the UK?
-
Well to be honest not that great. My main gripe was the amount of time it took to get a response from the CS team. Unfortunately I had issues with payment early on due to the strict fraud prevention requirements on credit card payments in the UK with the need for proof of identity etc. Don't get me wrong, I do feel these processes are put in place for a good reason as I myself would hate to be at the end of an Identity theft crime but this wasn't really the issue. My issue was that I had to keep emailing and calling Alienware for something to be done on my order. I did not once get contacted by them after I updated them with a required document / detail etc, I was always the one getting in touch to see what was happening on my order. I believe if I hadn't intervened so much I would still be wafting for my order now. In fact even when my M9750 was shipped (which I confirmed from looking at the website order status page) I was not once contacted to say that 'your order has been shipped' and this is the date I would be receiving my order. I had to call in and ask for my delivery details myself even though I gave them a whole day to respond after seeing my order status change!.
Sorry for this long post and I hope I haven't put you off in anyway but it really wound me up at the time and makes me angry thinking about it. I hate to think how I will be looked after if my M9750 ever develops a fault !!
Bottom line is the M9750 is great machine and was well worth the wait, despite the hassle. Just keep on top of them within the ordering process and you'll be fine.
Good luck !
Omino -
note that the smaller res screen is also slightly brighter, these are also the same screens that are in the m5750 and m5790, also the only other screen thts faster is the one in the Asus G1s, at 20ms afaik, nearly all laptop screens are in the 25ms to 40ms category.
-
Thx, I need it ;D I just hope its not going to be too much of an hassle as I am, like everyone else here, going to be spending a fair amount of £££ on this lovely gaming rig
But, yea, it should be someting worth waiting for
-
Hmm... here http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/alienware_area-51_m9750/ they seem to say that its 16ms... Maybe a mistake?
-
My system is not in Phase 8 (I know like any of you care).
Next phase is shipping!!!
Very excited now.
Assuming the online thing is correct and I was told its having problems.
I need to order my RAM and hard drive.
For those interested (cause youve ordered one), my estimated date was Sept 5th. Illl let you know when this ships and when I get it to compare estimated time and real arrival time. -
well for the 4th time in about 5 working days I called and finally someone told me that some of the systems have no cases and are sitting in status 3. I was like, that is fine. My problem is that my estimated date is Monday and everyone keeps saying it is going fine when I can tell it isn't. I ordered around midnight on July 5th and they kept canceling my order due to problems on their end and I have been patient. My most recent attempt has been a month old now and it isn't moving. All I ask is for them to let me know. I agree that you have to keep asking in order to get any info and even then they may not tell you much. Got Bioshock today but who knows when I'll be playing it. (I originally chose the 1400 res because I did not want to wait for the 1900, but maybe I should have.....or maybe I can get a free upgrade? doubt that.
-
That all depends on your form of payment and how fast it processes.
If you pay by credit card, expect them to ask you for identification to prove that it is your credit card. I originally was paying by credit card and they sent me an email asking me to send a copy of a bank statement and/or Identification.
That means using the postal system to me and that would take an extra week. So i just rang them up and got their bank account details for a wire transfer. There is a slight fee for that, but my bank is the exact same bank Alienware uses so it was completly free as well as instantanious (note: alienware's bank is AIB, Irish bank, For UK + Irish customers as far as i know).
The very next day i was put into Phase 4. So overall, i ordered the laptop one day and two days later it was in Phase 4
-
I bought a m9750. Got it in early August, after 2 weeks it stopped working. The screen woudn't turn on. They told me it was video card issues so they send me a new one. New vid card didn't fix the problem. So I send it back to them to get refund, they took 15% off the original price.
Worst company ever and I will never buy anything from them again.
I would not recommend buying anything from them, their support is also horrible. -
Well, I am very sorry for your situation, however, they clearly make known they have a 30 day return policy that includes a 15% fee.
Dell doesnt have this but Alienware is a MUCH smaller company. And it doesnt matter that Dell owns them. If a company doesnt do well, the parent company doesnt just "bail them out" and they certainly dont operate as if thats always an option. So they operate to keep themselves afloat and making a profit.
We have gotten used to fairly lax return policies with local retailers and even internet retailers, but this is a 4000 dollar laptop. This is a complicated piece of technology. There will be problems. Thats not exactly grounds for a refund. You could have jolted the computer due to carelessness. After all, it worked for 2 weeks and wasnt dead out of the box.
Thats like returning a car after a month cause something goes wrong. I had a clutch issue a month or so after buying my car. I dont think they would have just returned the car at full price.
How does this make them the "worst company ever".
Wallmart is possibly the "worst company ever" for so many reasons from employment conditions, impact on the world issues, and many other areas of what makes a company good or bad.
I hardly think that not giving full refunds every time something goes wrong with a new computer makes a company "worse company ever". I work with technology products that have so many technical problems that we have a full time tech to handle it. You cant just get refunds every time something goes wrong. Esp when that something can be fixed for a fraction of the total price.
Again, sorry for your experience - as I am sure it was frustrating. My first laptop lost a hard drive within a couple months.
If you really feel the company is practicing unfair policies, you should do something about it. One of the PC mags have a thing where people write in with problems with companies that sell PC related stuff, and the magazine has helped them by publicising their case, pointing out the problems and contacting the company to help the person out. It works well for those few people that get helped.
Thats why theres a warranty - by law. But there arent refund laws for your issue. -
If I were to get a bluetooth mouse, do I need to use the "dongle" or would the bluetooth already on board take care of that. Essentially, can I just bring a bluetooth mouse within the vicinity and it's ready to go?
I also need a good bluetooth mouse, any suggestions. Preferably one that matches the laptop (i.e. black) -
Sorry to hear that, you have any more details? I'm actually surprised that they sent you a new GPU just like that, that is actually good support, bad support is when the refuse to fix it or refund it (although they do have a 30-day return 15% so it's not like they can refuse in the first 30 days, after that it's at Alienwares disgression)), something you did in those two weeks broke something related to the screen, did you send them the laptop to fix it or did they send you the GPU, also did they refuse to help you after a new GPU didn't work or did you just decide to give up?
-
Ahhh come on, it's not a hard question (at least I hope not)...I have posted this question four times. I apologize if someone already answered it somewhere else. if so, can I be directed there. Thank you
-
Triple...
I am making an educated guess that it can be. The first time you use it you have to set it up, but after that they will recognize one another. correct me if I'm wrong anyone......? -
woohoo a response! I went ahead and bought a keyboard and mouse bluetooth set already ( Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000 s) and hoping for the best. Thank you anyways suicide
-
i'm still waiting
payed 15th of august
and i'm still in phase 1
sent a lot of emails this is not normal for wire transfer its already 7 days off my bancaccount

Both of those devices will work fine with the internal Bluetooth, but I am unsure about whether or not you can use the Microsoft software properly without the dongle. Using the dongle defeats the purpose of Bluetooth in my opinion. -
I received my m9750 yesterday! I'm still in the process of moving all my stuff over to it (desktop replacement) I am in love with it so far. although I will say I thought there would be a bit more documentation however there isn't. (it might be on the cd's which I have yet to mess with) Although I love how they gave me the owners manual-quick start guide for the Sentia 3450... aye. All in all it's rockin.
Is there anywhere that shows how/where to add another hdd and the ram? I want to make sure I do it right the first time. I'm so used to doing this all on desktops. Can't wait to really get into this lil machine... although the screen definitly needs tweaked a bit imo. I'm guessing 60 hertz is all it goes to? I gotta find out how to make the fonts bigger in vista.... Anyone have any personal preferences on there screen color/brightness/contrast/gamma, etc? It just seems a bit dark compared to normal lcd's
(once again completely new to the notebook scene)
-
support.alienware.com a relatively unknown site that shows you how to replace everything except the processor
-
I've had mine for two weeks now and I'm absolutely loving it. It continues to impress. I opted for only the single graphics card and the 2.0ghz processor, but I definitely don't regret saving myself the money. I haven't thought to check my FPS yet, but it runs BioShock very smoothly on maximum graphics settings, and that's good enough for me.
This has been such an amazing upgrade from my old computer, which struggled with BF2 on a combination of medium/low settings, mostly low.
on a side note.. if you don't own BioShock, buy it right now, seriously. Not only is it an incredibly good game, but it's pretty much the best looking game on the market right now, great for showing off your hardware
-
Yeah but I'm pissed at the fact you can only activate it twice
-
only twice even on the same computer? or twice total?
-
Just twice activation (its onlin activated) so if you reinstall your OS, ven upg a componnt yo have to reactivate, there a thread on the 2K forums where people are really pissed, I can understand why though... 2 activations... thats ridiculous, I'd advise getting a steam version as I understand thats tied to your steam account...
-
Shadowhunter -- what is your OS and video driver version? I'm running an SLI configuration under XP Media Center with the stock NVidia drivers (94.23), and Bioshock gets constant slowdowns. I had to move to 1280x1024 with Medium textures just to get it playable.
-
The stock drivers may be the problem. The game had some serious graphical glitches when I first ran it, but then I found some drivers made specifically to support BioShock and it runs like a dream now. I would try to find them again and post the link but you have SLi and XP, while I have a single card and Vista, so my drivers would probably do you no good. Just google something to the effect of "GeForce Go 7900 series XP SLi bioshock drivers," i'm sure you'll find something that will help.
-
Shadow, I couldn't get the BioShock driver to install on my OS which is also Vista 32 on a m9750. I get a "no compatible hardware found" message. I removed my old nVidia driver before installing the new one. I got the driver from the BioShock website. I am using the same graphics card you are-what am I doing wrong?
By the way, there are drivers for both Vista and XP on the BioShock website. They are supposed to clear up the stutter problem with the game if you can get them installed. -
"This is a follow up of our conversation early this afternoon due to technical issues with our database I could not provide information regarding your order status. The payment was taken on the 14of August and the status of your order is in phase4 at the moment as we still waitng on missing parts in order to start the production of your System. Those parts will arrive early September"
Stuck in phase 4 for two weeks now thanks to me having to be all gucci and picking a lightscribe dvd
(im assuming its the lightscribe holding the order up) -
Doesn't show thats on delay anymore... But you can always change your order if you ever wish on phase-4.

Thats the only things that have the "Delay" spirit to it thats in my order. Though i must point out that the Logitech Gaming-Grade mouse did not have that delay message next to it when i selected it. Pissing me off to see that now alright.
As for the lcd screen, its very strange to see both of them with that message. Its not as if you can select another option without delays
The lightscribe, well im guilty there, i seen the advantages and i said screw it, ill risk the delay. -

I opted for the single graphics card because my budget can't cover an extra £333 for the SLI and I decided that upgrading the GPU is a lot easier than upgrading the processor at a later date.
But I wondered what people's views were on self-upgrading the hard drives and RAM. I mean if I changed to 1 HDD and 1gig RAM is it easy enough to buy seperate components and add them myself? Also would it affect my warranty if I do this? -
Replacing RAM and hard drives is pretty simple on MOST laptops but this one it is VERY simple. This one has purposefully made it easy to add/replace hard drives.
I WOULDNT KNOW THOUGH CAUSE MY M9750 JUST ARRIVED TODAY AND TURNS OUT IT WONT BOOT UP. TRIED ALL KINDS OF THINGS WITH TECH SUPPORT AND NOW MONDAY I HAVE TO SEND IT BACK.....
VERY UNHAPPY RIGHT NOW.
but alas, what can I do?
this sucks!!! -
That is good to hear. I think I might change my order then. Do you know if AW would get grumpy and claim the warranty is invalid? Or is it best to check with them just to make sure.
Damn that really does suck
Hope they get it sorted nice and quickly for you
-
After all those time waiting in excitement........I hope you'll learn your lesson in dealing with AW

Sorry to hear about your troubles Sequoia. Please keep us updated on your status!
That's one hell of a configuration. I personally would have saved the money on the CPU and gone for the second graphics card. The 2.0GHz CPU gives the best price/performance. As far as future upgrading goes - if the 2.0GHz CPU can't handle what you are throwing at it, then there is a good chance that the 2.33 won't either. Just a thought.
I am not sure of the aftermarket RAM prices in the UK but I would have also gotten the minimum from Alienware and then upgraded yourself. That usually saves a lot of money. -
hey all,
i will be soon owner of d M9750! but, I configured it with the vista version.. what is more recommendable?! vista or xp?! im still at phase 1.. so i guess i can still change my configuration..
thnx in advance! -
If you ordered two 7950 GTx cards go with XP since nVidia still has no driver support for SLi and Vista for the 7950. Otherwise Vista is a nicer interface I think. I am running Vista 32 on my 9750 and even though I can't run my second 7950 in SLi, I just can't go back to XP because I like this OS too much.
