Yeah, I read through this thread and saw a few people going for the higher res screen, maybe its a mistake on my part, But I would think the screen I ordered will do the job!

The WUXGA upgrade is a lot of money - $300 is a lot more than it should be in my opinion. Perhaps the price is high because if it were lower, too many people would want it and Alienware would run into supply issues. Either way, going with the WXGA+ is more economical. From my point of view there is no point getting SLI with the WXGA+ screen since SLI doesn't offer much of a benefit at that resolution (although with all the newer games like Crysis, I think that argument will go down the tubes soon), but on the other hand it doesn't make sense to pay $300 to get the upgrade because you can get a beautiful desktop monitor aftermarket as I mentioned in another thread. So in the end, it's better to get the WXGA+.

But doesn't getting an external monitor go against the reason of owning a laptop in the first place. If you want to use an external monitor why not just go with a desktop. I agree though that $300 is a bit steep to upgrade the screen.

I should be getting mine tomorrow (or today if I wrote this in 20 minutes :p), I ordered mine on the 31st of last month. So 2 weeks delivered. Not shipped, but delivered and in my hands (Well in tomorrow it will be!). Got the fedex tracking number and everything :D

My original ship date was Oct 4th btw. Which was kinda iffy, but I'm happy it didn't really take that long, I guess the date they give you is very conservative.

Great news, please let me know what you think of it when you get it.
I just spoke to AW, they say they are getting new GFX cards in tomorrow, and my order will start moving over the weekend, asked about changing my order and keeping the same delivery date, and he just kinda laughed! No chance unless I want to wait 4/5 weeks longer, oh well, I guess the crap screen will have to do ;)

I am suprised at the amount of these units that are selling, Alot of people have been snapping them up! AW must be making a fortune!!

I don't think they're making a furtune - AW is selling it at a pretty competetive price; better for us :D

I have a bit of a problem. Every time I put my system into hibernation or standby and it comes out of it, I can't see my mouse. I can see the cursor but I can't see where my mouse is. When I use both the mouse pad on the laptop or my bluetooth, I can't see where the mouse is. I can click around if I "guess" where my mouse pointer is. Anyways what's wrong and how can I fix this?

One more question, how can I get to laptop to support dual monitor mode. Right now it only allows you to either use the laptop monitor or a external, but not together. When I go into the display properties and enable both monitor, nothing happends. I always have to go to the advanced tab and do it that way.

Interesting that you mention that. I had the same issue with the M9750 when I had it as well as the Sager NP9260. I am almost positive that the issue is related to SLI because both of the laptops had it and the only thing they had in common besides XP was SLI.

Thanks a lot loggie, there's just one problem I have - when I download the driver, it is not zipped, so thus, I can't place the modified inf file in the archive before installation. Where can I get the zipped version or what can I do with this version to make use of the inf? If you could offer any more advice it would be much appreciated thanks.

Yes I'd like to know this aswell as I can't seem to unzip the file 'XTreme-G 163.44 Mobile Vista 32bit.exe' as it's just not registering as an archive.

I've tried 7-zip and winrar but just doesn't like it. Any ideas Loggie?

Right I feel like a complete twat posting my last post. I've done driver installs many, many times before.. honest!!! I can only put it down to fatigue but I didn't realise that the .exe file was just an extraction program. Dear o dear!!!

Anyway all sorted now. Thanks Chaz !

I downloaded the Vista 32 version (not sure which OS you have). The two files I downloaded were XTreme-G163.44 Mobile Vista 32bit (drivers file) and
XTreme-G163.44 mobile Vista 32bit V2 INF (INF file). The second file is a standard zip file that either WinZip or WinRAR should unzip. The first file is a drivers folder installation file that sets up a folder containing all of the drivers and dlls-it does not install any drivers. Click on it and it will self-extract this folder. This will create a folder called nVidia Forceware with a subfolder called
XTreme-G163.44 Mobile Vista 32bit. This is where the driver setup.exe file is located. Place the unzipped INF file (nv_disp) in this subfolder and then click setup.exe and your good to go.

If you are using Windows XP the file and folder names obviously will be different from those I listed above. Hope this helps.

Note: Vista OS:This beta driver will fix the stutter problem in BioShock and although it allows enabling of SLi, the SLi still does not work properly in Vista.

Thanks again loggie, I actually fiddled around before you posted and did exactly what you said lol - I've yet to try the drivers out, I'm just hoping they'll stop Bioshock causing my laptop to overheat to the point of the game crashing lol - I think I'll look into a cooling mat as well to help. Thanks for all your advice, I'll post to say if things worked out or not.

I know it's been said before on this forum but the Zalman NC-1000 notebook cooler is really exellent. I'm using one now and it's droped the CPU core tempretures by at least 9 degrees. Highly reccommended. :)

Yeah the cooler is great, but to get optimum cooling you need to have the laptop off to the side. It won't be centered perfectly because the vents don't line up with the laptop. Also you need to flip the cooler, so it's sloping away from you. I have done this and with every configuration there is and there is always a couple degrees difference between "normal" positions and the "optimum" position.

Um...ok? The 8700 GT WILL give a lot of kool DX10 possibilities but it still doesn't outperform the 7950GTX to my knowledge so it won't be THAT awesome...lol

hi this is my first post and i have a few questions about what i should buy. NOTE: i plan on buying this laptop sometime next year, probably spring/early summer, when hopefully new technology will be out.

    1. what processor should i get? as in whats the best deal for the money? i have a horrible burning desire to get the ultimate computer possible, no matter how much it costs, but does 2.33 make all the difference? would i be perfectly happy with 2.0 or would i feel like the laptop is outdated a year later?

    2. ram ram ram. is there any reason (right now) to get 4 gigs of ram? if not now, then what are the chances that by the time i decide to buy, 64 bit vista will be actually usable with available drivers and no compatibility problems?

    3. about the flash drives, is it really only 32 gb being the max? as in, it costs over a grand to upgrade to such a small drive? or is there backup space that's in the normal format as well as the flash memory?

1: Processor upgrades are never cost-effective, it comes down to what you need.

    2. 4 GB can't be used now, and graphics card make the usable # even less. And Vista without compatibility issues is not that different then an Eskimo without an igloo or a beach without sand, it's not happening.

    3. 32 or 64 GB is all that exists in a consumer market at this time. If you order it on its own, you only get 32GB. Obviously, it's a useless overpriced option at this time.

what do you mean by the gpu not being able to use 4 gigs of memory? i thought memory is allocated by the os?

and about the hard drive, i was just curious, there's no way in hell i'm paying that much for 32 gigs of space, no matter how noiseless or quick it is.

also, about the processors... it seems like alienware offers the lowest speed cpu's at the moment, with a banner that proudly proclaims 2.33 is the fastest mobile cpu (obviously not). let me rephrase my question about that then - what do you think is a good processor choice, assuming i buy about 9 months from now, that would not leave me (or the average person) feeling like they should have upgraded?

last question: i know this sounds really dumb but keep in mind that i haven't been up to date with the latest technology...now that i'm thinking about making a big computer purchase i'm just discovering all this new stuff. but the core 2 duo/quad core... is that an actual DUAL processor, like a core 2 duo at 2.33 does it equal 4.66??? because 2.33 sounds awfully slow. my current laptop has a pos p4 1.6 processor which i bought 5 years ago.

First off going from a C2D 2.0 to a 2.33 makes a mere 5-10% performance gain. Secondly Vista 32MB versions can only support 3.2 GB of RAM so buying 2 GB is the best price v cost in my oppinion. Lastly, Samsung just came out with a 64 GB SSD HD which can be put in raid to give 128 GB of storage. Vist this page to see the drawbacks and advantages of SSD HDs. By the time you buy a comp they will be quite a bit less expensive so be excited there. :D Hope this helps!

My 9750 has a C2D 2.33 GHz CPU T7600 and I can say that it is considerably faster than the single core 2.8GHz Pentium IV I have in my Sony laptop. I ran Super Pi on both computers and it benchmarked more than twice as fast on my 9750. It's not so much the clock speed as it is the architecture that makes the real difference in CPU performance. Intel claims the C2D can get around a 40% speed improvement over a single core CPU at the same clock frequency. It depends on the application.

Do you have SLI enabled? My understanding is that dual-monitor is not supported under SLI. You'll have to disable it from your default profile to get it.

You also asked about the mouse not appearing after standby. This is a known issue. Found the following at this link: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14594

There is no need to get more than 2.5 GB since the BIOS only supports 2.5GB. Maybe one day Alienware will upgrade the BIOS to support 4GB

Actually an interesting thing is now happening. When I disable SLI and restart it enables itself again. I have done this three times and each time I restart and open up my properties, the box is checked again.

Does anyone know if the M9750 can see 4GB when running a 64-bit OS?
Sorry to hear that. :( With only 11 days until the end of the month you will probably have to get something pre-made. Try the Toshiba X205.

    Sorry to hear that :(

Mine is ordered with Alienware UK so I'm in for a long wait too - I see on the website that the WUXGA screen now attracts a 28 delay
I can wait fortunately as I've replaced my stepkids laptop already and I'm using their old Dell XPS2 - it has a damaged screen; white line divides it in two.

I called AW yesterday and added a second GFX card to go SLi. That plus the screen means November sometime. If AW offer new upgrades before then I will change my order accordingly and just let the notebook be a Christmas present to myself.

I was looking to purchace the m9750 from the uk as well but according to their site the estimated delivery time is 21 days (this is with the 1440*900 screen where there is no waiting time for). However it doesnt mention anything about not having GFX cards in stock. I am only going for the single card option so i am not sure if that makes the delivery time quicker but i am a bit concerned as i dont really want to be waiting till the end of October to receive it.....

Finally! My laptop got here yesterday far ahead of their APO expected delivery time (8-12 weeks) it still took 3 weeks, but that's much better than the former. I love it too! no issues with it yet and it seems to be a solid system.

I ordered a m9750 2 days ago (UK site) after reading 109 pages on this thread.

Good reading though. The estimated delivery date when i placed the order is some time around 6 Nov. Today when i check their "Customise" page again it has gone up to 6 Dec  It's the screen again.

I really wonder if i have to wait 2 months like the Holland guy back then. Patience patience i know but i'm just human :( I'm afraid i might call them every 2 days to check how this baby's doing.

Actually, Alienware informed me that this is no longer the case. A BIOS update has been released, check "my hive" to see it. The computer can now see and use more then 2.5GB in 32bit, not sure if it can use more then 4GB In 64 though (It is at least 4GB)

    Hello,
    I have a m9750 with a 2x512Mb memory kit.
    Thought that I could easly find a 2x1Gb kit without any problem, I bought an aftermarket 2x1Gb kit (Crucial SO-DIMM 2 Gb (Kit 2x 1 Gb) DDR2-SDRAM PC5300 CL5 - CT2KIT12864AC667) : this kit is not compatible :/.
I bought a second kit on crucial.com, helped with the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool, that guaranteed-compatible memory for computers and motherboards :
still not compatible xD !!! (less errors but still instable : many bs, errors on memtest, etc).
So here I'am, with two 2x1Gb Crucial memory kit, and an Aw m9750 with 2x512Mb...
Don't be afraid about the Crucial SAV : they are very good (my first kit was remplaced in 7 days :0 !).
So now I'am searching for a compatible 2x1Gb kit for my m9750.
One told me about a G-skill memory kit that is in his m9750 (so that is surely compatible with the m9750 :0) :
    G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Notebook Memory
    It's a CL5 kit.
I think I'll buy this kit.
But I have a question : does the CL4 kit would be compatible with the m9750 ?
    G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Notebook Memory (CL4)
    Thanks.
    Under
