    It's a PCI card.
And you have a DVI port (carry video but not sound) + 7.1 HD sound.

Also does anyone know if it's possible to install the TV tuner card afterwards? Given I want XP on it, but Alienware wont allow me to have the tuner card and XP :(

From the Alienware knowledge base -

    http://4help.alienware.com/cgi-bin/...3RleHQ9bTk3NTAgdHYgY2FyZA**&p_li=&p_topview=1

As to acquiring one.. dont know.

I just recently visited this area and found two mini-card buses in the breakdown. Are these generic? Could be a good opportunity to add a cel card here; if I can route the antenna.

Do you reckon an Azurewave DVB-T AD-TM200 could be fitted?

From my earlier discussions with AW tech it appears to be a standard Mini-Card Bus, all power spec ratings apply.

I have not yet tried it myself - I do have a few cards I may try soon. Nice surprise is there are two slots - plenty of options for tv cards, cel data cards, higher power wi-fi. Everything comes in 2's in this box.

Let me know if it works out.

Hello folks, my girlfriend and me both ordered a m9750 over a week ago after a very long time of doubting if we should get a laptop or not. I know that there's newer models just around the corner (europe) but we fell in love with the slick design of the m9750 and figured since we're both using ancient pc's atm it'll be a huge upgrade like it is. There's one thing that i do find strange though, a couple of days ago i received a mail from alienware telling there will be a delay because of missing part(s).

    1- AREA-51 M9750 ACCESSORY SET BLACK ........................... Expected Date: 2/24/2008

I wonder what that includes, is that like the gimmicky stuff (cap,T-shirt, ..)? So my question is : are there any other european customers out there that have to wait over a month because of accessories? Seems a bit odd that they would delay an entire system just for the added goodies, they might as well send those seperately afterwards. Ofcourse i might be mistaken about what those acessories include, mb they're crucial to the configuration of the system.

    Regards

There is a binder that contains the AW id card, drivers CD, and system restore CD that comes with the m9750 that might be considered an accessory item
(and the binder is black)-just a guess.

Thanks for the reply Loggie, i guess the things you named could be a part of the accessories and therefore delay the order.

Oh well, back to the waiting game! :D

Great Dready, have fun keep us posted.

What OS are you going to run? 8700 GT users are rare here, so make sure you post your opinion of the card. And any issues/solutions you have with it.

I'll be running vista ultimate since sp1 is just around the corner and that should improve the vista experience a bit. I chose the 8700 because i don't plan to upgrade the first 2 or 3 years and i just wanted a setup that was capable of new technologies during that period (not maxed out, for that you need an 8800gtx, i know) of time. Also i do believe there will be improvements to the 8700/SLI/vista experience as new drivers come out and things get more fine tuned. I'll keep you guys updated :)

I'm really happy with it, it's truly the prettiest laptop i've seen so far (i prefer the stealth black over glossy m17x). It performs really well with it's current weak spot being the gpu. Since i tried the latest nvidia drivers i did get a major performance boost but i'd still put in a 8800m gtx the day they tell me i can upgrade. With one 8800m gtx i'd feel set for like 2 years, with them in sli more like 3 to 4 years. In short, it's an awesome machine that i absolutely love! Style + performance, what's not to love(except gpu :D ).

Hey guys, I am so dang close to getting this 9750, I can taste it, but you know.....m17 bla, bla, bla, this and that. I play games at home, no lan internet stuff, just 3d shooter stuff, internet, desktop replacement. I can, but should not spend more than $2000, tell me the 17 will be at a minimum $2500.00, so i can just join this freaking thread once and for all. Will I be screwed 3 years from now (unplayable games and basic support) if I get it?

it appears that the best processor our fine machines can use is the T7600 @ 2.33Ghz one currently offered...I suspect upgrading to m8800GTX will be an option in the future, but processor speed will probably prove to be the "achille's heel" for the 9750...
Even though you won't get a very "stacked" m17x for $2500...you would at least have the option of upgrading down the road - the m17x will be good to go for couple years for sure. I'll be interested to see how my 9750 is handling the new games we will see a year from now...

i almost got this one. but this is why i did not.

    1) 8700 is not engough power for me
    2) dual 7950 will never be dx10
    3) desgin was kinda "meh" looks like any black laptop ( well not quite)
4)i have had issues with the m7700 which is a very similar design.
    5) proccesor is slower than other chocies

i went with the m15x. im sure this one is great though ;)

I think it probably safe to say that the m17x will be at least $2,500 in the short term if you get it with a single 8800m GTX. It may be under $2,500 if Alienware includes an option for the 8700m, as they have with the m15x at the initial release for ordering. I say in the short term because they may take the same approach as they have with the m15x in limiting the configuration options initially. Its been over a month since the m15x was made available for ordering ad we're still waiting for the $1,499 base option for the m15x with all of the configuration options open so that you might be able to make some trade offs to get the 8800m without going over $2,500.

Now here is the agruement FOR the M9750. :) 3 years is the avg "useful" lifespan of any laptop. The M9750 is a very solid machine not even close to the design of the M7700, I have one. For the Price, it can match/beat any comparable notebook. For 2000 you can get a pretty nice M9750 but for 2500 and a M17x you are just settling for base features. And I'm sure you won't get a 8800 with that price.

Believe me I would love the M17x, it is killer, but I guarantee that this time next year Everyone will be saying don't buy the M17x, buy the M17x+++ instead. Their agruement will be, "why buy old technology". I've been in this game for a long time, and one thing I have learned is "You never buy Bleeding Edge, your wallet won't forgive you". BUT if you do have the money to burn, which many of use don't, go for it.

No. 60C for the CPU is normal for idle-anything above 80C is too hot.
The GPU (7950GTX) can peak in the low 90's when playing graphics intensive games and that is typical as well.

Cool, Do what's best for you. If you go with the m9750 make sure you get the 7950 gtx. The 8700 gt can't even come close to it's speed. You won't get the DX10 features, but I think speed benefits are better.

Yeah, it's the m9750 with 8700's. It's a bit crappy to compare Dell's latest 17" to the m9750 though, they should compare it to the m17x when it comes out.
