Yes, that is correct. An m9750 with 2 7950gtx's can get 3dMark06 scores in the 8000's. The comparison in that review is unfair.
-
4000 for 8700 SLI ? There is a problem... it's less than one 8700M normal score !
And i reach 8600 with my 7950 SLI...
So...
They failed... -
The ExtremeTech article - thats really bad editorial control....
First, indicate the configuration of the comparison machines.
Second, if you are going to compare, be fair. They may as well not loaded the Nvidia drivers and just used the default video on the m9750 if they really want to load the score.
FWIW, I get 8791 on my dual-7950 T7600 setup. Ok, its not going to beat a dual 8800 setup. Give me a few months for the rumored 8800 upgrade... we'll be closer. -
I'm more surprised that the m1730 with dual 8800M GTX's only gets 12,000 3DMarks and the m15x with a single 8800GTX is in the 9000's
8400's at stockclocks with a T7200 -
I had just purchased this computer....I cant wait till Feb 25.....are they usually good about the estimated arrival time?

Yes lately they have been on time for ESTIMATED SHIPPING DATE? I don't think they estimate a arrival time at purchase.
Work mostly (Software Development), Part time Gaming (when bored).
Congrats -
Good setup except for the 8700's. You would be getting better performance with two 7950GTX cards.
-
Congratulation for your choice !
It's simply the best !
-
They are playing around with the video card options on the web site....
Would it be dumb to get 1 7950 for now, in hopes that the 8800's will work later? Or just spend the additional $200.00 and be done with it... -
what option do you mean ?
-
There has not been the option to get just 1 7950 for the $1499.00
Now it will go up $100.00 for the 8700 (slower from what I have read) Not much change, just something I have noticed since I look at it every single day!!
Oh yea, it went down $50.00 for duel cards -
Ah ok ! i was thinking 8800 just came for us !!!
-
Yikes!!! Sorry for the scare!
I'm tired of waiting, it's (9750) ordered...... -
I've heard that the 7950GTX is faster in DX9 than the 8700GT.
However this review confused me again:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Toshiba-Satellite-X200-21P-Gaming-Notebook.7205.0.html
As it shows that 2 8700's in SLI are way faster than 2 7950's in SLI. Doesn't that imply 1 8700 > 1 7950 as well? Or is SLI a different situation altogether? -
It's really not a fair comparison, 3dMark gives a lot of points for faster CPUs. I just overclocked my CPU a small amount and my score went up 500+ points.
With the M9750, in some games the 7950 is about 15-20 fps faster than the 8700. This margin has decreased lately with the 173.xx drivers though. -
Eightd,
I ordered a m9750 last week(same specs as yours), should I install these drivers for Vista right off the bat? .....x86 i assume..
NVIDIA GeForce Go7950 GTX (v169.61) - Latest XP x86 / XP x64 / Vista x86 / Vista x64 [02/08/2008]
These are the LaptopVideo2go Drivers -
Yes, if you are not running Vista SP1. The stock driver have performance issues. If you would like to stick with the AW drivers then try the AW Beta driver.
If you are using Vista SP1 then try 173.90 you'll get a major boost in performance with games like UT3 and COD4. -
I have no idea which vista it is, what ever it comes with.. -
I'll check back when I get it.
-
9750 arrived this morning. This thing is awsome and I'm not looking back!
-
i just ordered this laptop but did not get the extended warranty. does anyone know if i can still order the extended warranty at a later date like you can on a dell system? if so, you think it will be cheaper or more expensive?
-
I think you can. I think it will NOT be more expensive
-
would you happen to know if you can extend the warranty within the 1st year of purchase before the standard warranty expires or do you have something like 30 days to make up your mind?
also another question, what is their refund policy, if any? -
yes you can
-
Alienware will send you an email in a few days giving you option of buying extended warranty.
Refund policy is 30-days, but 15% restocking fee in some cases, I don't know if they apply that universally or what.
-
Does the fan noise on the m9750 bother anybody else as much as it does me? I've always been a bit sensitive to fan noise. I don't mind the initial fan noise on boot up but am talking about during steady state, like just surfing or using Office not even gaming.
I purchased the solid state drive just to help reduce noise/heat but am seriously consider returning this for refund because of the fan noise. I might have to go with something a less powerful graphics wise like Inspiron 1720 but more powerful CPU options for less, and no fan noise.
Anyone return theirs and have to pay the 15% restocking fee? -

im really wanting to buy this but i want to know if it can use dual 8800m's first

true it is very nice.
-
I hardly notice any fan noise on my m9750 when doing normal non-gaming activities. Even when gaming, the fan noise is not that distracting ( actually, I would be worried if I didn't hear the fans).
-
I don't notice fan noise when I'm sitting in a room with other ambient noise, but when I'm trying to work while the baby is sleeping or if I go to a library to work I can hear it.
Sometimes in a board room it roars up and folks look at me funny (they look at me funny already with the alien head glowing).
Unfortunately, I have to do both normal corporate work and my gaming needs.
I've undervolted it (well, you can only undervolt the higher multipliers with Intel core 2) and am getting some Diamond thermal paste to see if I can keep it even cooler.
It still bugs me price dropped $600 2 days after I received mine, but oh well. -
they look at you funny? oh no.... oh nonononono... i might send it back them.....
-
quick question. i just got the laptop. i have not installed an os yet, turned it on a few times to get into bios. i have noticed that on battery, the computer turns on when my finger goes over the touch-sensitive keys, like email key or any of them. is this normal?
i have not tried this when the notebook is plugged in. -
That is normal.
-
Hey stone
I see you have one hdd on your laptop
I tried to ask this question, but..
If you wanted to install a 2nd hdd on the m9750, would it be as easy as buying a sata 2.5" hdd and putting it in the cage? Would you need to do anything different from normal booting? -
Travis, I answered that in your thread you made the other day.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=227880
Yes it is easy to add a second hard drive. A matter of pulling out the second tray and screwing the HDD to the tray. Then sliding the tray back in. You will have to go into the BIOS and change the boot order. So that the new drive is after your boot drive, which is your current drive.
Vista and XP will see the drive in the Disk Manager. You will have to initialize the drive and format it, to NTFS, in Windows. Then assign the drive a drive letter. The Disk Manager is easy to use, you shouldn't have trouble. If you do send me a PM.
As far as drive brands I only use seagates they are quiet. Western Digital seems a little loud to me. 7200rpm drives are going to be a lot more expensive than 5400rpm drives. Unless your copying an bunch of files or doing Video capturing I would go with the 5400. -
oh crap sorry
it got all the way down so i didnt see it
plus it was past my bedtime, so when i got up it wasnt there
sorry
and thanks +rep eight -
also, what interface would it need to be? 1.5gbps or 3.0/
-
Both are compatible with the M9750. 3.0 is best but 1.5 ok. Then the price comes into play again. You will be fine with 1.5 for most tasks but if you do a lot of large file copies you'll never use the speed.
Thanks for the Rep by the way. -
ok thanks
-
orluff, delete that post or it will be reported
this is a thread for m9750's -
ok set upi my m9750. only issue is that it does not like my wireless router. it is an older wireless b router (a,b) and it does not want to connect with it. it will connect with my neighbors g routers but of course they are secured networks.....any care to guess what could be wrong?

thanx, i really hope i sell my PS3 before the m9750 sells out
-
Hi, I just joined the club - my system ship date is currently 3/19. Can't wait!
Here's the specs on the one I got.
I opted for XP instead of Vista since I mainly play Final Fantasy XI and I've read about a lot of issues getting it to reliably run under Vista. I figured an OS upgrade can come later if needed.
