Yea im going to cancel the order unless customer support tomorrow throws in something free for the trouble. Im not worried about dx10 cards so much because it was just confirmed today from alienware labs and nvidia that dx10 8800m cards are being released for the m9750 later this year in quarter 3. If support gives me like extra ram or cpu upgrade for free ill keep it, if they dont do anything, i might just go for the area 51 7500 desktop machine, what you think?

The 7500 isn't bad but its pretty expensive and if one is good enough at putting together lego then building your own desktop is the best option, seeing that the DX10 won't come out untill Q3 for the m9750 it all depends on what you want, you can have a desktop with the best current DX10 card(s) around or the cheapest laptop that has the best DX9 card(s) around. I think it would depend on your lifestyle, if you need something portable for more than word processing etc. I would go for the 9750. If you just need a lappy that'll word process etc. then the 7500 or building your own desktop plus buying some cheap laptop in a local store would be a better option imo

yea the only problem is that im not home alot, im either at college, work, girlfriends, lan parties..im home probably 35% of the day, so a desktop would kinda suck for me, im just pissed because i know the 7500 would kill the m9750 because it will last alot longer and has the option for quad core and dual dx10 cards. The thing is a beast and i would love it, i just need portability, especially for gaming. I just hope the m9750 can be comparable to the 7500 when i upgrade it fully.

    Halo-

As you said before that you want sth to kill the time during lectures,so the m9750 would be the best choice. But due to alienwares low battery life I dont think m9750 could make it.Therefore Phritz's suggestion is reasonable.

well i will have it plugged in during class, there are outlets everywhere. Also DX10 cards are coming out for the m9750 in 4 months. The m9700 also has a chance of getting it too. The one coming out for the 9750 is the 8800gtx, and the 9750 will be able to handle 2 of them in sli, bada**!

Did you hear that officially somewhere or was it something that one of those not-so-know-it-all support people told you over the phone?

I haven't been able to find anything other than speculation about the M9750 getting DX10 cards.

Alienware labs told me that it will come out, and nvidia said that it will be released soon and will be compatible with the slot in the m9750. But, knowing alienware, who knows.

By the way, im thinking i will go with the area 51 7500 with a quad core processor, what do u guys think? Its either this notebook or a desktop from alienware, also, i already have a dual core notebook for school, so should i just get the desktop? Will it last alot longer than the m9750?

Congratulations: You may get your computer this decade!!!!!! (Applause)

I'm going to tolerate the delay a little longer I'm "only" delayed until the 30th, so will see. Although I have been checking the Dell XPS M1710 quite often.....

At least AW gave me better shipping, but that's nothing, 3 days after 3 months?

Trust me, I understand the frustration. But, didn't you realize you were doing a "pre-order" when you ordered your m9750? The m9750 isn't even available for order on their regular website. I'm sure they expected to be able to ship them earlier - unfortunately, that's not the case.

Again -- I'm not saying you guys shouldn't be upset. Just trying to understand expectations. As a happy Alienware owner, I would love to see everyone else be satisfied as well. I know they're not a perfect company, but having a hard time understanding the "insanity" with the m9750 delays.

I do have a word of caution. If this delay is really upsetting people --- I definitely recommend reconsidering your choice. If by chance (hopefully it won't happen), you have a problem with your m9750 when you DO get it, you're going to be VERY frustrated if you have to send it back for repair - this can take a couple of weeks. While I'm happy with my Alienware systems, I always caution others to take into account the potential delays with repairs - patience is a must.

HaloGod -- I like your configuration. I'm teetering on the "buy" button on a new Alienware desktop myself. They only thing I would say is I think 2 8800GTX cards is overkill. Interestingly enough, even the desktop product manager for Alienware says one 8800GTX is plenty unless you are going to drive a 30" display at highest resolution. This opinion is confirmed by some folks I know who have the 8800GTX (some with one, some with two in SLI).

If I order in the next month or so, I'll probably go with 1 8800GTX - then, if new cards come out within the year, I always have the option of going SLI then (without replacing two cards).

I take it this is replacing your frustrating m9750 order :). FWIW, I think you've made a good choice. A top of the line desktop and a smaller notebook is a very nice configuration. You'll also have more flexibility for upgrades in a desktop.

EDIT: not knocking the m9750 - for some people a DTR makes more sense.

Well, I just typed a whole paragraph, only to have my browser crash.... summary:

shazzoz, your right, I'm just venting a little frustration, I think the individual people at AW have been very helpful in their efforts, but the entire story is never straight, causing me to expect the computer next week one day, and next month the next. I was a little over the top in my last post.

Thanks, I really still am excited to know I'm going to get one of the best brand of notebooks latest, even if it is a little delay. And the man I spoke with was unofficialy suggesting that they expect the cases sooner.

Thanks for understanding the over the top comments.

np, mjl. I spend a fair amount of time on forums where Alienware systems are discussed - so I am probably more aware of the delays that can be experienced with new systems. But, I'd be frustrated too if I was waiting for my new system!

I hope everything works out great for you.

That RAM looks good. One thing about Newegg - they have a great return policy should you have any issues.

And yes, I'm 99.9% sure the 7500 has four slots.

I'll try to get things back on track then:

My order is currently waiting on the screen/case, which alienware is expecting to have by the 30th of June. The call center guy says it will most likely be sooner, however. After they get the part, he said 1-2 weeks to build and ship is a good estimate for me to actually have it. So that means no later then July 14.

Anyone else have any other updates???

In order to take advantage of your video cards you should get 1920x1200 at the minimum.

From what I understand, one 8800GTX should be plenty to run 1920x1200. 1680x1050 is fine for a 20" display - and if you're happy with the 20", there's no reason to look further. I just believe you'll have a better gaming experience on a slightly larger display - 24" is ideal, 22" is also good.

I would say get a bigger screen. I'm happy with the 24" Dell I'm reading this thread on. (Maybe even bigger, a 30" at 2560x1600 perhaps.)

And my Dell is connected to a weakling 6800GS (desktop). Its still usable in games 1 year and older, some 6 months old. With that power you could also get good visuals on an HDTV (1920x1080) for games.

How did that post get in before mine......?

Anyway, yes, I second the notion that 1680x1050 is adequate at 20", maybe even 22. However, since you won't know the difference between 50 and 150 fps, I would look in the direction of a 24", or at least any 1920x1200, and up. 1680x1050 is wasting a lot of GPU horsepower, in my opinion.

That looks like a very good buy for a 20" display. If that's what your budget allows at this time, I'd say - get it, enjoy it, then upgrade to a 24"er later on. Prices will continue to come down, and you'll then be able to make use of two displays.

I started out with a 19" on my desktop, and thought it was the bee's knees. Once I switched to 24", I don't want to go back ... but, that doesn't mean the 19"er didn't give a satisfying gaming experience - it did!

    Hello everyone,
This is my first time posting on the threads. I was doing a search to see if anyone else was getting a bit impatient waiting for the m9750, Im glad to know Im not the only one. I first ordered mine on April 16th. About a few days later, I cant remember exactly, I went into Phase 4 and I've been there ever since. I have to say this is really frustrating. My original ship date was May 31 and now its telling me not until July 7.

Anyway, in case anybody wonders or even cares, here's what Im still waiting for:

    T7600 2.33 ghz
    WUXGA
    2GB mem.
    200GB hard drive - Raid 0
    8X dual layer cd-rw
    Dual 7950 GTX

@ gpeter: Check out the Dell XPS line, Hypersonic, and Sager...if you can't wait any longer for the Alienware.

@ AlsknWhtDrgn: (hey there, you're short a few vowels :) ) - Very nice system you've got there. Be PATIENT!!! It's hard, but it will be worth it. Alienware has had a tremendous response to this system, plus they are trying to make sure everything is in good shape before the m9750s ship.

Quick question- how does the new macbook pro graphics card (8600m? 256 mb) compare to the m9750's 7950GTX in DX9 Performance. Obviously it is DX10 compatible (When dual booting to Windows).
Still think I'll wait for my 9750 either way though

The Go7950GTX is in a different class than the Nvidia 8600M-GT. The former is much more powerful for DX9.

Sorry for these out of place questions, but this is the last. How many slots for RAM does my system have?

Agree with the earlier comment that the 8600 card is not in the same league as the 7950. It should be a very good mid-range card - comparable to the 7600. I'll know how well it performs in a few days, as I've got the 2.4GHz, 8600 GT, 15" MacBook Pro on order and should get it early next week.

they actually are trying to pull crap with me again on my desktop. After cancelling the m9750 because i didnt want the wait and decided i need a desktop, so i got the 7500. They are starting lies again. I was told it was on rush order and would start production yesterday.....im still on phase 1.......so i called and said connect me to the damn cancellation department right now!!....i was connected but to a supervisor...she calmed me down and offered free fx lighting and to knock off the liquid cooling price...immediately i started smiling...then she said she would wave the shipping fee....holy crap.....and then was promised i would get the system before june 20.....damn.....that was customer service

I was on the edge of buying the monster m9750 but i saved 2 grand and bought the new MacBook pro, with 256mb dx10 nvidia 8600mGT, 2.4 ghz processor, 4 gigs of Ram, and the most beautiful LED screen to make those dx10 graphics pop off the screen....and i can actually take this baby off the desk with wireless N at 5.4 pounds and 1" thick.
