Wow Halo, you just described my conversations with AW. I have been through the same charade. I wish they would just be honest and tell us the truth. I have no problem with that, as opposed to the line of crap they are feeding us...

Sorry, also venting! I’m with ya buddy!!!

I just hope their level of crappy support and horrible preparation for this system doesn't reflect the quality of the m9750 when it arrives in the next century.

Most Companies tech support sucks, but its also irresponsible to think that ordering and already paying for a Laptop which hasn't even been publicly announced will be a completely smooth process, I'm not redirecting the venting but its just not a good idea to pay for something which hasn't been announced, I'm sure that most people would drool over this PC but they are in no danger of drowning from it so whats the rush of pre-ordering for?

Check out this awesome email i received!!! Im so excited to wait another year for this laptop... canceling is lookin better and better.

    Thank you for contacting Alienware.

Unfortunately, there has been another delay with your order. The following parts are back ordered and we are waiting for them to arrive.

    AREA-51M 9750 17" WUXGA W/ CAM BLACK
    8X DVD+/-RW NEC AD-5540A REV 1

Since we currently do not have an estimated arrival date for the parts yet, I would suggest contacting us next week. By then we might be able to provide you with an estimated shipping date for your order. Once we receive the backordered items, we will proceed to start the Assembly phase of your system.

    We apologize for this inconvenience.

Thank you for your understanding and if you have any other questions, just let us know at [email protected].

    Best regards,

jeez that just ticks you off huh. When did you order your m9750?

Also, you can for sure have dx10 cards with the core 2 duo's correct? Also, since we cant get santa rosa processors in the m9750, will this affect our performance in the future? I dont want buyers remorse.

I'm 99% sure that if there's something your Core 2 Duo processor can't do, then a comparable Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo wouldn't be able to do it either. The performance is very similar; I don't have any exact figures for you but I would estimate that the difference between a similarly-clocked 667MHz FSB C2D and an 800MHz FSB C2D would be marginal at best - maybe up to 10% in some cases. For the majority of applications the difference will most likely be non-existent.

Ok just making sure because i dont want to buy this thing and then have something that will be much better(SR in this case) come out right after. All i will do is gaming on ths thing so im hoping the core 2 duo will do that for me while i upgrade do dx10 cards in the future. Or will it not?

Well i ordered my m9750 on 5/1/07... (year added just for reference when i finally receive it.)

Ok now im not so upset as long as the performance difference between Santa Rosa and the m9750 is not that noticeable. Plus i think the biggest performance increase should be the dx10 cards. As long as we can eventually upgrade... right?

The Core 2 Duo is the best processor that is out there right now, I wouldn't stress over when it is going to be outdated or unable to do what you want . . . enjoy the machine (or at least the pleasant thoughts of owning it while you wait for it to arrive ;)).

Oh wow, good thing I'm ordering in July, it says the cards will be out this summer

    :p

patience proves itself lol, but I'm worried about the the price for the DX10 cards.... I'm predicting +1000$ at least for SLi DX10 cards...

It looks like that the delays are being caused by the DVD burner and the 2.o Core 2 Duo

Another status update, what used to be a june 4th shipping date became a mid to end of june ship date....what used to be that has today become a "sorry sir, becase of the high demand blah bah blah, them m9750 may be delayed up to mid july to get to your home". I am cancelling this laptop if i dont get it shipped by mid june. i have had enough BS from these AW workers, they lie about everything.

Also, will the core 2 duo i have be able to support sli dx10 cards without any problems?

    All-

New here to the forums and I had a couple of questions.
I need a DR only for gaming since I'm on the road about 200+ days of the year(military). I have ALWAYS wanted an Alienware and can finally afford one! :D :D :D

Here is what I was looking at for the m9750:

Win XP Pro SP2 until Vista gets all the kinks worked out of it.
    2.0GHz 4MB Cache 667MHz FSB
1920 x 1200 LCD with Clearview Technology - Stealth Black
    1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz - 2 x 512MB
    80GB Serial ATA 1.5Gb/s 5,400 RPM w/ NCQ & 8MB Cache
    Dual 512MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7950 GTX - SLI Enabled
    Internal Intel® Wireless 4965 a/b/g/Draft-N Mini-Card
    High-Definition Audio with surround sound
    Price: 3,157 (w/o tax)

I just have a couple of questions for you all since I'm NOT a computer guru.

2.0vs2.16vs2.33: For a strictly gaming machine is 2.16 nessesary or can I get away with a 2.0Ghz CPU?

1GB RAM enough or do I need 2 GB RAM.

80GB HDD 5,400rpm...Any real detectable differences between it and a 7200rpm HDD?

    Thx for your time guys

Welcome roger, the 2.0 processor will be fine for gaming especially overclocked; games have barely started using the power of dual cores. so your good, dont spend more money on the 2.16 or 2.33. The graphics cards....phenemonal....you want 2 GB of RAM but i would get the RAM from someplace else like newegg.com, its alot cheaper than alienware's RAM. The hard drive you will want to upgrade also, there is probably a 20% difference between 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM, again get your hard drive elsewhere not alienware. The hard drive will mainly effect gaming only when loading to say a different level, it may also be a little slower when booting. So it wont kill you with what you got now. Everything else looks awesome, your gonna love it, but your going to hate Alienware taking there sweet time building them.

    Halo-

Thanks for the suggestions. I will prob go back and get that extra RAM and HDD from newegg. As far as waiting..well I'm scheduled to head out for a couple of weeks to a place with no external Internet per say so I won't have to torture myself looking at phases  Course knowing my luck the jet will break, then the mission cancel, and I'll end up ignoring the wife and kids and just drool on the phase progress page...NOW ON TO THE SALES WEBSITE!!!!

    THE FUTURE...
    Alienware m9750
    2.0Ghz C2D
    80GB HDD 5400rpm
    1GB RAM
    2x7950 GTX :D :D
Infinite patience (I think  )

hahaha yea i told everyone i would be patient to untill i found out my system was delayed a couple of weeks. Trust me, keep yourself busy and keep the laptop off your mind if you want to stay sane through the building process. Also, dont look at their website for your order status, its extremely delayed. Call the alienware order status department mon through friday and they will give you an up to date status. Online can be delayed weeks  Congrats on the new lappy, we all feel your excitement.

They use samsung memory chips, but don't know which HD manufacturer. If I had to guess, I would have to say Seagate since they are the only ones I can find that offer the 160GB 7200 RPM drives that I have in my m7950 configuration

Alienware, like any computer reseller/manufacturer, doesn't only use one brand of HDD/RAM. They'll use whatever is available. So there is no real way of telling.

Can't answer that one with 100% certainty, but everything I've read indicates the current C2Ds should work with DX10 cards (regardless of the GHz ratings). This also seems to be the case in the desktop versions which are already out.

I called AW yesterday afternoon and was told that the order would be delayed until at least the end of the month, but that they had all the parts for it ready (I'm going to bite my tongue, or in this case hands, at this point)

Then, when I called back that evening with a slightly worse attitude, I was told that it should be in production next week, and to call on Monday or Tuesday. This time I got the guy's name, so he had better be right (Growl).

Hopefully they will start getting themselves together on this....

I just got an email that states the same thing as the first phone call, end of June "due to the extremely successful demand on the Area-51 m9750 and the strict guidelines Alienware placed on quality control" and "Alienware’s policy (particularly on first out the door shipments) emphasizes additional reviews and checks with newly launched products to meet high standards."

Oh how I wish there was another product like it at that cost available. But there isn't...

ok, AW tech support lady today told me that DX10 cards will not be compatible with the m9750. Then she went to ask the labs, and they said they dont know if they will. Then another tech support told me they will be compatible. The nvidia has on their site that dx10 cards are coming soon for the m9750.....then back to the tech support lady....she told me the computer i have should last about a year for gaming.....wtf is that....then she said if you upgrade your graphics card in the future....which she told me wasnt possible.....it will lst longer....then she went on about how the computer looks nice which is the most important thing.....what a dumb person. Then she says... to not worry about the computer not lasting long and that they will comeout with new things every 3 months but nothing will be like the m9750 for a long time......This system better be able to have DX10 cards in it.

I would take the nvidia website as the best source on that for now.

I'm still fuming over the email they sent.
They tell me ONE DAY BEFORE that it should be in production TOMORROW!!!!!!
Then I'm told I will be waiting at least a month after the expected ship date. This is the worst service I have ever seen.

I guess thats what you get for ordering a new model.

    And about the Sager:
    1. As I know very little about that brand, I'm cautious about it
    2. The AW looks nicer LOL
    3. The desktop CPU should make battery life even worse, right?

It looks like there is a lot of miscommunication on Alienware's end.
    1. Sager is the biggest seller of Clevo notebooks in the United States - make sure you check our Clevo/Sager forum for more info. I own a Sager (I'm typing on it right now, my Fujitsu won't get here for a little while yet) and it has been great to me for over one and a half years.
    2. Yes it does, but the Sager is more powerful and has a better price/performance ratio.
    3. Yes, the NP9260 gets about 40-50 minutes of life.

Is Sager shipping the np9620 now, or are they delayed.
Also, how long does Sager usually take to deliver?

Sager is shipping the NP9260 right now, they started to ship last week. Some people have already gotten theirs.

It should take less than two weeks to get the laptop built and delivered from the time you order.

Make sure you check the Clevo Guide for a list of Clevo resellers. A lot of dealers offer a cash discount.

Yea i dont get the whole one month thing either. Also, what makes me mad is that i get lied to. But did they actually tell you production will start tomorrow (june 4th) for your m9750? Can you cut and paste exactly what they said? I have not recieved anything but that im going to get billed by them. They are going to bill me now even though i have no laptop. I probably wont get this thing either for the next 10 years.

I was told that over the phone, otherwise I would have a better case against them.......

I should get them to email me anything from now on...

    The current update is:

    Dear (Me),

    Greetings from Alienware!

This email is to inform you that due to the extremely successful demand on the Area-51 m9750 and the strict guidelines Alienware placed on quality control, your system's shipment date has been extended to the end of June.

Alienware’s policy (particularly on first out the door shipments) emphasizes additional reviews and checks with newly launched products to meet high standards.

It is unfortunate that the systems are delayed. I know it doesn't help that people knew they were not released fully yet when they did their pre-orders - but there is always a risk when you order a product that is not released.

People who are angry about waiting, would have been even angrier if they had ordered something else and the m9750 comes out a month later. That said, Alienware should be more consistent in the messages it is sending to people about how much longer it will be ...

While I understand that there is a risk with preorders, the delay in of itself isn't my main problem. It's the fact that they tell me at the end of every week that it will enter production on monday or Tuesday, and on Monday that another part is back ordered, or all of them are delayed, and to call back at the end of the week, and then the cycle repeats.

Why can't they just tell the real story or admit they have no idea??

But, it is a new product, so I admittedly should expect some of this.

Yea thats true. The tech on the phone today said mine will ship tomorrow, june 4th.........HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....thats too funny. My lappy is still in phase 3.....oh by the way he told me that the 9750 will be coming out with dx10 cards....but hes not for sure it will work with the system...but he said most likely. He said he heard about dx10 cards coming during his training on the m9750. He also said there will not be santa rosa on the m9750 untill the next system or revision is made, probably not for another 9-12 months. he also said santa rosa is not something that will bother gaming, its almost the sam as the core2duo we currently have. But he did mention(i squeezed it out of him) that more upgrade options will be available soon in the future, but not anything for the CPU or Screen. He finally remarked saying...dude...the one 7950GTX you have will be more than enough for gaming, equip it with sli and you should be able to game for 2-3 years...unless an amazing game comes out thats out of this world. So after that long convo he slapped on me....he said it will ship june 4th......pfffffffttt

I just read this whole 15 page thread. It's pretty crazy the stuff you guys have been through.

I'm in the market for a high end gaming notebook and have pretty much narrowed it down between this (Alienware's 9750) and Dell's XPS M1710. For me it will pretty much come down to which one offers a high end Geforce 8M gpu first as a config option. Or at least which one will be officially upgradeable to that in the future. Sounds like you guys have been told both stories for the 9750. Once the 8800M is officially announced we should have a better idea.

For the time being, anyone want to tell me why they chose the Aleinware 9750 over the XPS M1710? What advatages does it have (other than SLI 7950 gtx's as I am waiting for DX10)?

Thats easy, M9750!!!!!!!!!! Nvidia even said they would have 8M series for it. Go for the m9750 for sure man, you will thank me for it. M9750 will last you longer down the road.

The Dellienware Area-51 m9750 is a cheaper base system than the Dell XPS M1710, The Alienware with a C2D 7200 at 2.0GHz and an nVidia 7950GTX is 2249$ and the Dell is 2,698$, The Dell comes comes with the wuxga screen standard and at Alienware it will cost you 200$ extra to 2449$. The m9750 will last you longer in upgradability, theres space for 2 harddrives and looking at the nVidia site it seems there is a possibility of DX10 cards being available for it (Its not written but its got a picture of the 9750 as an enthousiast laptop falling under the category of the performance 8m series) , the M1710 doesn't have a standard MXMIII slot, Dell has fiddled with it so buying it now and then upgrading to DX10 seems out of the option
