I got both. I got a system image, but I also received a copy of Windows XP and a separate CD with basic drivers for the audio, video, network adapter, touchpad, CPU, etc. If you don't buy respawn, all you get is the Windows CD and device drivers.

What does respawn give you over the Windows and driver disks?

It installs a ghost image of what your system was like the minute you turned it on for the first time. Which means not having to install the Operating system and all of the updates and whatnot. The windows and driver disks just take more hands on actions to get it to where it was when you first started your computer.

What he said. It is a little bit easier, and faster to use the Respawn. Respawn uses the drivers for your specific setup which makes the process of finding the *right* driver a non-issue. You would still want to patch your Windows install, because by the time you get your system, guaranteed there will be a gazillion new software patches despite the update that Alienware incorporates into their Respawn kit.

this is a random question and already answered already. It it worth the extra money to get LCD "clearview" or whatever the other companies call it.

Depends on the environment you're using it in, in really bright light conditions glare can become a problem but Im guessing that the smaller res screen is also glossy, you're paying the extra money for twice the screen estate area

Well, it depends on preference and lighting environment. I am glad I don't have a glossy "clearview" screen, because the glare of the lighting around me would be unbearable. Those screens are best in darker/dimmer environments. The non-glossy are good almost anywhere but you lose the color depth. It's preference.

I never liked a native resolution that high unless its on my 40" LCD tv!

So yea...I went with the lesser, its a bit too much for me and I hate when everyting is that small. To me the only reason to have it is if you get a blu ray drive.

Clearview can be applied to any screen, it doesn't matter the resolution that is being dealt with. It may or not be something that the notebook manufacturer offers as an option. In this case, Alienware didn't offer it.

    I found the article....

The top-shelf components delivered phenomenal performance: a score of 5,552 on PCMark05, and 34,585 on 3DMark03-the best score we've ever seen. Clearly built for gaming, the m9750 handled F.E.A.R. without breaking a sweat, delivering 140 frames per second at full resolution. In fact, the only score the m9750 wasn't number-one on was battery life, at 1 hour and 26 minutes.

I think its strange they only ran 3DMark03 and not 06.
So I can only guess that the PCMark05 for 5,552 and the D901C getting 6,871 shows there will be a large difference.

I think the reason they may have only run 3DMark03 was an issue with Vista and the nVidia drivers with 3DMark06... but hopefully that is fixed by now.

As of my posting no official Nvidia drivers exist for SLI in Vista. Wonder why they didn't offer the system in XP? Seems like they should offer a choice (or at least give the owners drivers for both) Kind of useless to get SLI and vista and not be able to take full advantage of it. Thats the reason I'm dual booting my system until more Vista drivers get released and matured.

well, I just ordered mine yesterday and it'll be arriving july 25th (or leaving alienware july 25th?) Nonetheless, it has to be shipped to Miami and from there to Panama. I'll probably receive it around August 5th...ish which is just a week before I go back to St Louis for my studies anyway. Oh well!

It shouldn't take Alienware long to get those back in stock. A delay to the 29th isn't so bad, let's hope it isn't any longer. ;)

The last e-mail I got from Alienware regarding my laptop was on June 2nd, letting my know that the laptop was delayed to the end of June.

When I called them on Monday, they said my laptop would ship out today. But, seeing as the site says I'm in Phase 6, That won't happen. With my luck, the machine will arrive while I'm away for July 4 weekend.

I just called them. What they told me on Monday (That all parts were in stock) is inaccurate, the shell/case is still backordered until at least Saturday. Great.

What the Hell are they doing? How hard could it be for the call people to read the right stuff off a computer screen?????????????????

PS- does anyone know if Dell is replacing the XPS M1710 anytime soon?

Ya they have WAY too many orders for what they thought. Sadly I have a delay for the 29th for the CD AND one for an additional battery till the 30th. *sigh* But it will certainly be worth the wait in the end! ^-^

I just hope they didnt rush it because of this demand that we put on them. I want my system working 100% perfect...

This however shouldnt be a problem seeing that the 9700 turned out to be such a stable performer (minus the dual core :( )

    Amen

I alsxo found out that the first batch of cases was not up to quality standards, and they had to delay to redesign and avoid the problems the first batch had.
    At least, that's there excuse.

I've heard nothing as far as release dates. There is no real ultra high-end video card out at the moment so I think they may be waiting for one (ex: 8800M).
LOL - yes the Clevo D900C/Sager NP9260 is an absolute monster and the M9750 should be significantly slimmer/lighter in comparison.

I'm really hoping your machines ship out soon, it's been a very long wait.

:D It's not that much heavier!
    m9750 = 8.5lbs
    D901C = 11.88lbs

If 3.33lbs means I need a forklift...it's time to get off the computer and get outside to build muscle back up! :p

Bah, I work on a ship. I only have to move it once a month. I think I can manage that weight 12 times a year :) For me having more power is the key. Although I would bet that when the dual SLI Santa Rosa's show up it will be a run for the money!

I just moved from 4 to Phase 5!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!

One more question about 9750 RAM- Do you need identical sticks? I know there is a performance advantage to Dual Channel, but I was thinking of buying 1 2GB Stick now and using it with one of the included 512MB sticks (Why can't AW just use a 1GB sticK?). That way if I feel I need it, I can buy another 2 GB stick later.

    PS- Would this work- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820178165

EDIT: And another update on order status- I just moved to phase 6. (apparently my last phonecall was nastier then I thought)

From my experience with Alienware, once you're in Phase 6, everything goes pretty quick from there, I would expect yours to be shipping by midweek of next week, but thats just from my experience. On one of my orders, it went from Phase 5 straight to shipping in 2 days.
