Generally, you want to avoid using different type/size of RAM in one machine - All RAM installed in a machine needs to be run at the same voltage, speed, and latency settings. I would recommend just running the 2gb stick on its own - as I don't think there is a way to adjust RAM options in the Alienware BIOS, and I don't think there is software that can do that - but I might be wrong.

So you mean just get 1 2GB stick, take out the 512s , and put in the 1 2GB on its own, right?

    From what I understand you have to install the ram in pairs. (i.e. (2) 512mb, (2) 1gb, (2) 2gb)

    You can't install a 512 and then a 1gb or 2gb. Sorry.

Anyword on whether or not the 9750 will support the new 8800s coming out later this summer. Will it be sli capable? If so will there be a huge price difference between the 7950 and 8800?

Yes, the price dif will be huge, probably 1000$+
Im getting mine cheaper than all of you :p 2,105.00 for my setup (2800$). I was gonna order the US version cuz I thought it would be cheaper but every part except for the SLi upgrade is cheaper, and 19%VAT is included, which I don't have to pay, because Im "exporting" it to the philippines

Yes you can - what configuration you have doesn't matter. As long as the RAM is DDR2-667, 200-pin SO-DIMMs, then whatever configuration you use will be fine.
There is no word on when the 8800M will even come out, so don't get your hopes up about later this summer. From what I hear it will most likely be towards the end of the year. Nvidia has released the 8700M-GT, their new enthusiast card, for now.
There is no way to tell what the price difference will be. There might not even be any - the 7800GTX was the same price as the 6800 Ultra when it came out, and same with the 7900GTX. Intel does the same thing with their processors - the new high-end processors are the same price as their old high-end processors upon release.

Ah ok, whats the price diff between the 7950 and the 8700? I was saying 1000$ for a DX10 SLi setup over the single DX9

Still though, I don't think it is going to be like that - the price difference between a single DX9 card setup and a DX10 SLI setup could also be the same as the difference between a single DX9 card and a DX9 SLI setup (currently $600).

Look for the 8700M-GT to start appearing in more laptops this summer (mid-July - August). Toshiba already has a laptop with the 8700M-GT, the Satellite X200 series:

Has Alienware said anything about utilizing the 8700m in the 9750. I figure at this point if dx9 is pretty much going to become obsolete in a year or so, I much rather wait until dx10 cards are used in the 9750. I am going to be investing about $4000 into a machine, wouldn’t do you think it would be a better thing to wait and use the new tech. You figure that dx9 has been around for five years or so, the dx10s should be around for at least the same time. Honestly at this point I keep on going back and forth between 9 and 10. What do you all think about it. Those who have purchased the 9750 with the 7950(s), what made you choose that instead of waiting for the 8 series?

The fact that the 8 is taking so long... The fact that DX9 won't be obsolete in 1 year lol, that would be suicide to make a non DX9 game... The fact that DX10 so far isn't showing that much visual gain over the 50% performance loss... DX10 is not that impressive... The 8 series isn't that impressive... If you want to wait, wait for Penryn and GeForce 9

Congratulations. :) After all the time you waited, I understand.

I'll be doing the same thing if my ThinkPad X61 tablet ever gets here; today is three weeks to the day I ordered it and I don't have any real ship date (est. 7.11 but who knows how reliable that is).

So. I ordered my laptop on June 24th, and after 6 days stuck in phase 3, today I go on and check today and it's in phase 9. I've received email confirmation by both alienware and Fedex and got a tracking number showing the laptop. Was this a miracle? I'm confused... it was meant to ship out on the 18th.

I phase 6 and contacted them and they said it should ship anytime this week as long as testing goes good so hopefully it does cause i gotta leave in acouple of weeks and if it doesent come id be so mad lol but i know it will :D
and even though you are on phase 4 it could be already on phase 5 just not updated like mine went to phase 6 without letting me know its on phase 5.
