they told me to call fedex, so whether or not they'll pick it up I dunno

but you also have a GPU downclocking issue? is it the same as mine, do you know?

download GPU-Z, run it, and look at the sensor page. Clocks of 500 MHz and "799" MHz are normal. If you want to see if yours downclocks, check the bottom box (which talks about refreshing data while window is not in front, or something similar) and start playing a game, either in fullscreen or windowed mode. Every once in a while check the clocks -- if your GPU downclocks you will see the clock values be lower than normal.

yes its pretty much the same thing has your problem grb but in my case it would do it randomly from 84C-87C and the clock value would go to stealth mode. I didint game much with my m15x since I had it but yesturday when I played ut3 the drop from 100 fps to 30 fps (in the same area) were pretty flagrant. I used evrest and gpuz to look at the clocks and its definatly only a problem with the gpu since the cpu would stay at full speed all the time. At first the guy wanted to send me a new gpu cooler but since I had the screen problem to they are going to do everything there. Do you know if they are giving you a brand new graphic card?

yep, this is the exaaaact problem. So, there we go, my problem ISN'T isolated...

I have no idea what they're gonna do, but I mean I've limited the probable causes down only to BIOS issues or a faulty card -- though, the BIOS scenario seems less likely now that I'm no longer an isolated incident.

I really think its something in the bios I didint know what to say to the guy when he wanted to send me a new cooler I mean the card is going to be hitting 85C no matter what.. The only thing I can see that link our m15x is we got it the same day (faulty first batch?)

But if it were BIOS then that should affect everbody, unless the BIOS technician at AW was distracted that day and corruped the BIOS on a whole slew of m15xes... I mean the BIOS being corrupted seems less likely to me to be repeated than a faulty batch of 8800s. But, no matter what the issue, this is probably a faulty batch problem.

anywho, we'll see what they do. When are you sending yours in? I'm waiting at least another week and a half before even sending it, so you may become the test case before me.

Could anyone tell me what the new "OSD drivers" that alienware released are for? OSD, does that mean its to do with the lighting and command center and stuff? - as in it wouldnt come with or have to do with new drivers for the 8800m GTX?

Yeah they cover all the costs for the shipping. I'm still not sure how I'm going to send it back the fedex site wont let me register (goes to a blank screen after I try) so I can't schedule a pickup. I don't know if I should bring it to a FedEx Drop Box point, that doesnt seem very secure

LOL I sure hope it isn't mine!! Unless you got the 8800 and the dual 2.8 in which case I HOPE they're messed up.
Mine is on the delivery truck as we speak and should be here within 23 minutes or the FedEd guy gets a kick in the bawls.

What concerned me however is the confirmation email I received containing the tracking number had the wrong order number on it. The number was 546816 and thats nowhere near my order number. I hope they didn't send the wrong system and if they did I hope its a "bankers error" in my favour ;)
It may just be a bad cut/paste job but any takers on that order number? Nobody else in Calgary expecting a delivery today is there?

No its my computer, not my nameplate. How do I check on the oc- bios?

Here is a couple vray benchmarks, for anyone that uses it. the first is my m15x- x9000. the second is my dual xeon 3.6 mhz. (older). Both 4 g ram. Its alittle slower but not too bad. For a lappy...

I don't know what you do have to check :)

just look into the bios if you can set something!

    then, if you don't mind, try run a superpi 1M & 4M.

I think we must ask AW why even the penryn is not OCable, if it is not! I don't think you paid less for that processor, so why cannot you have all its features?!

last, but not least :) what do you think about the screen? colours, contrast, any light leakage? can you check the model & id with everest?

    MANY THANKS

Hi maguai first of all congratulation to your new system!

Maybe you can post some CPU Temp. during your benchmarks that we can see if there is an OC capability on the system (hopefully it is!) or its already at its limit.

    Thx

Has anyone had an experience with warranty yet? Well unfortunley I have had a partially bad one so far. After working with technical support last weekend and determining that I have a bad GPU, they said they will be shipping out a new one within the next 5 days. Here is the bad part....they asked me for my credit card number to file for an "authorization only" in the event that I do not return the old card (5) days AFTER I recieve the new GPU. Well, guess what..... I have not received the new GPU yet and Alienware charged my Visa $569 (Not an authorization either..Charged!). After talking to customer support today they claimed that I should not have been charged and that they will credit my visa once they receive the old card. What????!!!!! They haven't even shipped the new one out yet! I asked him well then can I charge Alienware interest? He replied that they would deal with that later if that is the case. What frickin BOLOGNA!!!!!!

That is exactly how the Alienware warranty is supposed to work.

Alienware does this to avoid scammers who say that they need a GPU and try to get a freebie and don't send in their old ones.

Once they receive your old GPU, they will put the amount money that they charged right back on your VISA. I know it sounds hard, but that's the policy.
Don't worry too much about it this is normal.

I paid in debit and they could only take $1000 out per day and so the last day's payment was like 400 or something, anyways they charged it twice and I called to tell them and they were very polite, they even offered (I didn't ask) to pay any overdraft charges that I had may have gotten as a result; the point is that while it is pretty absurd on their part, I bet that you could actually get them to refund any interest on your visa.

I have heard of this happening, though I thought it was just me. I bought a desktop from them 3 or 4 years ago and the heat sink fan (or something) was not working when I got it and they shipped a new one out. The package got stuck in transit forever and they went ahead and charged me because it took so long but it wasn't nearly close to $569. They gave it back to me after they received the broken part. I always wonder what happened to their 200-point quality test but I honestly don't remember if they were doing that back then.

i went through the same warranty process when I received my Area-7500 with a defective 250GB 2nd hdd about 2 yrs ago. AW tech asked me to ship the broken hdd back once after i've received the brand new hdd. AW credited back the money back to my cc once they've received the broken hdd. AW shipped the new hdd right on time too... :D

i've bought a lot of stuff off the internet (ebay, amazon and online stores) and so far, i'm very satisfied. it is scary buying something that you haven't physically seen before.

but that's why there are warantees.. buying something this expensive for your first buy is very courages. but hats off to you and hopefully, everything will be alright..

Thanks. I just hope it my M15X $2,200 With Tax and Shipping turns out ok, everything is in order, like no dead pixels, working GPU, all lights are fine and running, and no scratchs (most importantly) Thats what im scared off dead pixels, and scratches because i heard 2 cases with dead pixels, but they both seemed to be on 1920 1200p LCD screens, and im getting a 1440 720p one, and so far no dead pixels on a 720p screen. I just hope im not the first to get a 720p M15x with dead pixel :(

EDIT: I also heard one case with a small scratch, i predict scratchs come from the guys who build it dropping it. I hope they don't drop mine.

Quote at ALIENWARE/USER: Isn't that the testing phase? I would be very happy if i was you if they are spending that much time testing your rig. That gives you better chance of it not arriving with dead pixels and all drivers in working order :)
