If you're asking if Blu-ray will look good with the 1440x900 base resolution, it will. You will not get full "HD" quality, but it will still be much better than a standard definition DVD.

These new HD format drives are not worth it just yet. Wait until one of them wins - when the happens, the prices will go down and you'll have a sound investment.

 

After six days in phase 6, my laptop's finally in phase 8. I didn't really have a problem with that delay, but it starts to get a little annoying after you see that phase 6 message for six days

Anyone got their 8800 laptops yet?

Great question GRB, who has their 8800 GTX equiped m15x already?

 

The original ship date was February 1st, I'm guessing the 8800m laptops will be delivered starting Monday or so. Can't wait to see some benchmarks

 

I got a call from AW today, and while my online status still says Stage 4 preproduction, they told me mine should ship at or around February 5th. The lady told me the smartbay batteries were backordered, and that they expected a new shipment of the batteries around the 4th.

BTW, I ordered the 8800M GTX version. So it appears they have a fresh batch of the GTX's in stock.

 

What does AW mean when they say "shipping lead time"? Does this mean day it ships, or day it should arrive?

btw I'm also 8800

 

"Shipping lead time" is pretty much standard logistics speak. Shipping lead time is basically a standardized estimate as to when it would leave their warehouse. I'm sure Nvidia gives AW a "shipping lead time" of their own, which AW uses and tacks on for their obligatory 3-4 weeks (exaggerated of course) - which we see as "Estimated ship date" on the order pages.

 

7th day in phase 6, I just hope they ship it feb 4th wich is my estimated ship date now. That would give me a good chance getting it next week I tried calling them to switch to 2 day shipping and it would actualy delay my order even more

 

Seeing all the orders and delay I'm guessing that we wont see this laptop in EU for some time... Shame that they still keep up the old one for sale though, I mean why don't they use the US to finish their stocks .

 

I was in Phase 8, then it slipped back to phase 6. Gave it a few days in phase 6. Emailed AW today and they said my System was delayed. I was a little pe'od. How do you go from phase 8 back to phase 6, and not even get a coutesy call to inform you. My system was suppose to ship yesterday. Looks like it will be a while yet. HAs anyone gotten one yet with a 8800m GTX in it.

btw, that sucks newfiejudd. I guess all our delays should be expected given that this is a new product, but it still doesn't excuse AW.

 

After fooling around with the HDMI output, I'm pretty sure that the m15x does not output audio through HDMI. It says that the digial output of the unit is through an optical link on the back of the unit, but I don't see anything.

This pretty much sucks. Whats the point of having a killer 5.1 or 7.1 laptop that can only output stereo through the headphone jack?

Of course this isn't a deal killer, but its upsetting.

 

I was excited to see i'm in phase 6, but after seeing all your postings...not to happy because there seems to be a back up. I'll be hyped up once I get a shipment confirmation # when it arrives to a fedex.

 

I've never heard of HDMI without audio. Are you sure you've checked all the sound settings? There's got to be something. I'd definitely call Alienware about that.

 

on the m15x page it says hdmi out video, nothing about it under audio.

 

HDMI video out is typical on many notebooks. They leave the audio portion out and expect you to connect via optical at your speaker out port. Mrwaters if you look, your speaker output on the back should be glowing red inside, meaning you can plug an optical fibre spdif line into it and then to your amp for full Dolby Digital sound. If thats not the case then you may need a coaxial cable. Without seeing it its hard to say how they configured it.

My system has been stage 6 for over a week now as well. They say they have a backlog of systems for testing. They still tell me I am on target for a shipping date of Feb 5th-08, and that I can expect my hot swap battery at a second shipping date not yet determined.

 

there is no optical jack on the back- unless it's hidden somewhere i'm not able to see, but I searched the entire unit and no dice.

it would have been awesome to have the laptop giving off 5.1 to my receiver and a 720p signal to my tv. oh well, the monitor is very nice and the speakers aren't terrible for laptop speakers

 

According to the m15x manual you should get an audio output via hdmi:

HDMI Port (3)
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is an uncompressed all-digital audio/video interface between any audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, and A/V receiver and an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV). HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports 8- channel digital audio with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements or requirements.

should also work with spdif

Audio Input/Output Jack (auto sensing) (3) The stereo input/output jack (1/8 inch) can be used to connect stereo audio into the Mobile System or out to a multimedia device. This feature can be used to add audio to Mobile System applications or output audio to stereo audio equipment. This port also
detects SPDIF audio as well.

 

Yep, Ive been at Phase 7 for a week now. That sucks considering my original ship date was Feb 1 (TODAY!).

 

Well just spoke with AW. It took a while but finally I spoke to a person who expalined the delay is due to issues with hardware and software working together. I asked if it was the 8800 GTX and they confirmed some issues with that. Looks like the software hardware issue won't be resolved till mid next week. And it seems it is only specific to systems with the 8800 GTX.

I hope they are wrong and everyone get's thiers shipped out in time. I know mine will be over a week late as it sits now. Also tried upgrading the shipping to 1-2 days air freight and they said it woudl delay the system by 2-5 business days. lol..

 

My system just went to phase 8, I hope that this is a good sign for shipping on monday and I also hope the guy you talked to is wrong

 

Oh me too. I was in Phase 8 early this week and whent back to 6 and now they tell me there are issues. So who really knows. Hopefully it will ship next weekend.

 

Alienware won't ship out computers that they know are not going to run stable. It's most likely a problem with the new drivers and the GPU running well together.

But, I hope all of you guys get yours shipped out soon. It sucks to play the waiting game. And, I want to read your reviews before I go out and purchase one.

As of this morning, I was in Phase 6. As of this afternoon, I'm in Phase 8 Looks like mine will be going out at the same time most other GTX orders are. Hopefully they start shipping the GTX models out starting Monday.

 

My m15x is in phase 8, i hope i didnt make a mistake buying my first alienware since it is for my job as an junior architect and i need it everyday!
btw my estimated ship date is feb. 10

 

Seems i am not the only one getting tossed from phase 8 to phase 6 then to phase 7 back to phase 6. Ha I am very patient with this as i know they are making sure my lappy will run smoothly with minimal to no problems at all. Patience is key. Though most of you are right they should at least notify us if our babies get defects or get tossed in another phase. I usually got email telling me what phase i am in. Surprised they dont update the email notifications fast enough. Oh well lets just hope we get our lil friends by the end of the next work week or so.

 

Most companies don't even have phases. When I ordered my Dell desktop, all I got was an (inaccurate) estimated ship date.

 

Hey guys looooong time lurker here haha many of the comments posted here actually made me decide on a system set up etc.. Just letting you all know seems like the ones with the 8800 GTX cards are now shipping I just logged in to my alienware order status and shows shipped (phase 9) along with the Fed Ex tracking numbers. Now I just gotta wait a week before I get it in my hands :S

Grats Velacio! I was also in phase 6 for over a week, and then Bham today I went to phase 7 then 8. I expect hopefully mine will ship on Monday or Tuesday which was the original shipping estimate. Being up in Canada, who knows how long that will take.

I think starting next week we'll start to get some more reviews and good benchmarks!

 

It blows my mind that I was in phase 6 yesterday, and now my item is supposedly shipped out. I have the fedex shipping numbers, but i'm shocked how i didn't even get confirmations on phase 7 & 8. Is this a mistake? For those who ordered, please check and let me know where you stand. I'm not complaining, but it's just odd.

 

I made phase 8 again finally... System will ship on Monday.. Can't wait.

 

The phases information takes awhile to get updated on the website. The only way you would've know exactly which phase your notebook was was to call them.

 

Called them first thing this monring. Was in Phase 6 at that point. They said there was an issue with software working with hardware.

My order after sitting at phase 6 for a week (Exactly) jumped to phase 9 today and its supposed to arrive on Feb 6. I ordered one with the m8800gtx and 2.6 ghz. Can't wait. If I'm the first one to get the 8800 version, I'll be sure to post pictures and answer questions.

 

the only problem with that link is that it kicks you to the main page when you try to customize it. hopefully it will go live monday! i'm still waiting it out for the m17x though.

 

The only phase shift e-mails I got from alienware was 1- when payment had been processed, 2- when it went into production phase , 3- when it shipped containing fed ex info.

Didnt get one regarding phase 7-8 though

 

Checked my order status again Holy cow im on phase 9! ha fedex tracking number and everything. ETA is Feb 12th a bit dissapointed as i was told before that ETA would possibly be Feb 5th. Doesnt matter If i get it i get it. Just stoked its being shipped!

Mine went from Phase 2 on Monday to Phase 9 on Friday alone with FedEx\tracking numbers. Surprised at the the quickness since i was given an estimated ship date of the 25th when i placed the order on Jan 28th.. Maxed out all the options except BlueRay player. This is my 3rd lappy from Alienware and never had any problems with quality or the few times i called customer service/tech support with questions.

 

wow tanamerra, are you kidding? jan 28th ordered and already shipping?

 

i currently have the 1year warranty, you guys think it's worth upgrading to a 2 year plan. The 3 year might be too excessive because i might be looking for a new laptop by then.

 

You can always upgrade the warranty later on if you need to, gspot333.

 

Anyone know of a good notebook sleeve for the m15X? Im looking for something thing just to plce insideback pack so dont want it to bulky
