I have just recalled one thing: No one cares about audio out on M17x? I want digital out on R3! Something like the hybrid 1/8" out on Macbook would be perfect.
-
An optical port would be awesome. Right now I have my M11X hoked up to the 32"LCD HDTV, which has a sound system hooked into that via optical cable. This entire system rocks my USAF Dorm room.
-
I'd love (and asked them to put in) a digital out to the M17x. I like the one cable link to the receiver idea very much.

so ...... is it safe to say that there are no improvements AT ALL to the m17x from E3?????
-
No improvements whatsoever.
-
How'd they manage to put a mini TOSLINK on the m11 and not the premium m17x??? That baffles my mind!!! They must figure most people just use the hdmi for audio now anyways, but us guys with older amps are left out to dry, trying to scan the net for an hdmi to TOSlINK converter
EDIT: oops read that wrong my bad. Ha . Make sure your getting true Surround sound. I know my tv has an optical out on it and I try plugging in the ps3 and passing the surround sound the hdmi then out through optical audio and it either doesnt work or turns it into pro logic (which is fake surround sound) -
Time to remember: I remember my old toshiba's Tecra model in 1995 with an optical port. Very useful and very high quality. simplify the mesh of different ports, connections and cables.
-
Given that the sound chip only does 5.1 Toslink is plenty. HDMI won't add any value. Of course IF the M17x had a Toslink
I believe the concept was that anyone doing HT work from the M17x would use HDMI and audio over that connection. For those of us gaming who just want sound through a receiver, digital would have been great and take up small space.
Oh well. M11x has it so probably they realize folks want it. Just have to wait
which is the story of the day with the M17x.

I need digital out to connect my receiver which connected to my 5.1 speakers.
I also need digital out to connect dedicated DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) which connected to my headphones. Built-in DAC of M17x is crap. -
I still say Dell should market an Alienware smart-phone
That would have been one industry curve-ball eh! -

wheres everyone gone!!!!!!!!!!!......i was kinda expecting a barrage of stuf after E3 has been and gone....anyone out there confirm any news about the m17x at all.....i thought charles would post something...............
-
He did.
Nothing to report
-
Exactly.
-
To put it lightly
Dissapointing. -
I don't mind to wait for a new system from Alienware as long as they do it for research or testing reasons and not just for marketing...
I would prefer to have a working system rather a new system and be the guinea pig -

Ahhhh....must have missed that bit...sorry
-
Along the lines of my thinking. I ordered my M17x a couple of days before E3 because I simply do not want to wait longer to buy a similarly powered system that is likely to show inherent faults down the track (or immediately).
Even the R2 is still having problems. -
This thread is pretty much at the end of its usefulness I think.

Yep, now would be as good a time as any to close/delete this thread.
