Chances of Alienware not selling 900M series until after january, 2015?
Hope they sell the 8GB variants as well.

We got some news.

Also, thank Mr. Fox about this because he got the news first.
Cloudfire also mentioned that the Eurocom will test the 980M for AW 18.Mr. Fox likes this. -
I asked HiD Evo on their Facebook if they had any idea of Dell selling 980Ms in their machine, they said everyone is wondering the same thing and none of their insiders have any info.

There has to be a good reason we are not seeing movement here with Alienware releasing new stuff. I am wondering if maybe we will see something über-wicked after the first of the year that takes us totally by surprise. Wouldn't it be sweet to see something ridiculously amazing and wonderful like a new 18 (or 20) with a 1kW AC adapter, a desktop 5960X CPU factory overclocked to 4.5GHz, no space wasted on an ODD, 6 SATA-3 mSATA 1TB SSDs in RAID0, and 3 x 980M SLI? That would so sweet! They could call it something like the ALX-18 laptop.
" Wicked has a name. Introducing the all new Alienware ALX-18. Get ready to gut the competition with the worlds first and only 3-way SLI laptop. Domination of the fittest."reborn2003, Ashtrix and TBoneSan like this. -

Yeah, something like that would be too amazing for words as long as it was done right.
Does X99 support that many M.2 and PCI-e storage devices? It would be sweet to have 6x1TB SSDs in RAID0. I thought it was a max of two M.2 for Haswell E, one being shared with PCI-e -
According to this, a maximum of 4 M.2's.
Well here's something not new, but a whatever. No 900m series in very near feature, according to this Black Friday leak.
Deals aren't that great, by the way. -
I think it meant m.2 PCIe x4 and PCIe x2, not that you can have 4x M.2 SSDs. In the diagram it clearly says 1x M.2, and besides I don't think any of the X99 mobos come with more than one M.2 slot.
-
Not natively. I think I saw one or two desktop enthusiast mobos with a third-party second M.2 add on. It's nice, but I'm not overly excited about a faster interface for drive read/write access at this point. With only 1 or 2 available ports it limits its usefulness too much to suit me. I would prefer to have 6x1TB SSD in RAID0 versus 1 or 2 M.2 SSDs. Well, technically I would prefer 6x1TB M.2/PCI-e SSD in RAID0, but there is no such thing as that. Plus, I don't want to pay extra for something new just to have something new for the sake of being new, blah, blah, blah.
-
What comes after tb. Just get one of those in ssd and your good.
-
-
Yeah no point getting new for the sake of it being new. And definitely do NOT get the Samsung XP941 unless you enjoy seeing 100+C temperatures. Besides, M.2's main strength is in sequential read/write speeds, 4k random read/write speeds doesn't seem to get much of a boost, so for daily use it won't feel much snappier (or at all).

No, but for something better than a P570WM in a laptop, I'm willing to go into debt tomorrow. Check out the new signature. Basically, I would settle for the laptop equivalent of a maxed out Area-51.
With the mSATA "rack" on a daugtherboard, I think this could be squeezed into the current chassis dimensions. I'd also like to have an edge-to-edge glass display instead of the bezel, but I'm willing to make a reasonable sacrifice and do without that feature if I absolutely have to. While I am wishing, Cosmic Black, Nebula Red or Cobalt Blue anodized finish would also be nice to have. Silver isn't ugly, but it really bores me. I'd also like to have the current "soft-touch" palmrest replaced by a black anodized slab of billet aluminum. -

They could easily fit 6 mSATA on a two-sided daughterboard replacing the optical drive and use the space the existing HDD caddy occupies for something more useful... like a dual eSATAp/USB 2.0 legacy combo port that allows for blind flash crisis recovery. I would trade that for Thunderbolt in a heartbeat. No blind flash capability really sucks.papusan likes this. -

You have to come over here for vacation and take it home.

Hell for $11,000+ you could easily build a 5960X rig with 3x GM200 (Titan X/980 Ti), 32 GB of DDR4 3333 (no 8GB sticks at that speed available right now :/), 4x 1TB 850 Pro, an ROG Swift 1440p 144Hz monitor, and still have enough left to install a custom loop.

Apparently not in Norway.

I think I may have a plan

CLoudfire, Eurocom is testing the AW 18 with 980m today, yeah?

Just got off the online chat with a dell rep. About 980M Systems.
He said approximately a month.
So now I am trying to haggle a base system with 880M SLi for £2k. My argument is that it's old tech and I'll buy it if they lower it. Best price I have gotten so far is £2210.
CPU question though, how much FPS difference is there between the 4700MQ and 4930MX? (Both systems have 880M SLi.) -
Well guys any update on 980M SLI working in our AW 18 systems? I think i got to try them on tomorrowAshtrix likes this. -
My M18x has more or less died. Both GPUs dead, CD/DVD Drive doesn't work and I am getting artefacts while using Autodesk Maya on the IGP. Think it's time for a refresh lol.
If there is no difference, why do people have the highest end processors available? Is it just for benchmarks? -
Eurocom is testing the AW 18 with 980M SLI at the moment per Cloudfire.
I've been praying for your stuff to work. -
Ahhh lets take my system example, it had 3740QM and upgraded to 3940XM, while playing game there is not any FPS advantage. Extreme processor is useful for video editing, benchmarkin and got unlocked multipliers. If you can wait then Dual 980M SLI will be great performance gain over previous graphics cards. Dell still sellin old generation at premium price.
I'll have two 980M but no idea it will work or no.

Been without a gaming PC for about a month now, so painful lol.
Also Peter, thanks for having a sig. I've made note of your Samsung M9T for when I eventually do order. Looking to have an mSata Samsung 840 EVO 1TB, SATA Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD, x2 2TB Samsung M9Ts (I'll take the optical drive out). Nice total of 6TB of internal storage. -
I hope so, There are few tweaks that i know but i got no idea about vbios tweaks.
-
But it would be a nice christmas present if they manage to deliver them before Xmas -
-
Indeed, it recently occurred to me my storage needs have grown a lot in the past year. I really didn't care about storage until I started downloading a ton of movies and videos. Now I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited to have a ton of storage inside a laptop.
Oh and thanks for the info on the CPUs.Peter likes this. -
This is painful. That time of the year has come where the most anticipated triple A title games release. And My laptop cannot handle it.
Dammit, this bad luck I have. The lack of 14-15 inch laptops with 900M series is painful.
I can't wait anymore. -
I gone through some post that 980M work on Aw 17 without any issue, Eurocom posted video on it also. As per argument Clevo 980M works on AW system with Optimus(Honestly i hate it). Is there any way to modify 980m vbios, hence it can work on two different core clock state. Im not sure but graphics card on Aw17 system only operates in maximum core clock.
-
-
If you have a 2013 model, no, I don't think it will be worth the wait. Upgrading your GPU is going to be your best option for added performance as opposed to purchasing an entirely new laptop with soldered components. For new people looking for an Alienware, waiting may be worth the wait because you will have a better performing machine. However, you can also purchase an older system for less money and upgrade it to have the same performance. It will differ case to case, person to person.
-
They may not even refresh the AW18 so upgrading could be our only option
-
I dont know if I should just update the graphics card or buy a completely new computer.
To avoid the soldered components, should I try to get an AW 17 with the 780 on Amazon or Ebay?
I have no clue what to do. I have waited almost 8 months to upgrade. I was hoping for an AW 14 refresh but now it has been replaced with the pathetic AW 13. UGH!
fyi my M17xR3 has been outstanding. Still going strong and playing everything I have to throw at it. -
I'd just upgrade it. I know the 780M works in the M17x R3, so there's a small chance the 970M/980M will also.
Upgrade your CPU, too. The 2960XM is the best choice.craigery81 likes this. -

Unless you are adventurous, until alienware Vbios files hit the net (or cards) then it seems to be risky at the moment.
-
It isnt risky to upgrade to a 780 though? I have never upgraded a laptop but I feel I can watch videos and follow instructions
-
It won't be a straight forward upgrade because you have AMD. It will be a bit more extensive. There are videos online (AMD to NVIDIA) upgrade. You can watch those. You will need thermal pads, IC Diamond, an x-bracket, and maybe even a new heat sink. It will be worth it, though. That 6990M is nothing in comparison, performance wise.
-

The 780M is tried and tested, so long as you are careful and read through the details it's not uncharted waters. I would wait if you can though since a 970/980m will offer a large boost.

The 2960XM and 970M would be a very nice combo at a reasonable price. The 970M performs about 20% better than the 780M.
You're looking at a 100% performance upgrade there.craigery81 likes this.
