I wish the shipping dates weren't so far away. If someone would please share your "estimated shipping date" when you purchase the AW 15, that would be great.

They've pulled the 4K on the 15 now in the UK (and only a 970m). Hope it's just a local decision and not manufacturing issues?

I think the 4k displays are delayed. They moved the shipping date on those to Feb. 20th.

You need HM97 aka Broadwell motherboard to support M2 PCIe SSDs. Or third party controller which very few mobile motherboards come with,

Horrible battery slot placement, who the hell puts a battery beneath the keyboard/palmrest...even those macs doesn't have this type of BS.
What an annhilation, complete BS from Dell I never expected this $h!* to happen with this brand....Time to say goodbye.
New machines are all smoke and mirrors....pure crap.

I would say again, guys if you want to game / bench / upgrade, Please don't waste your hard earned cash on these new lineups, Instead grab a Clevo 7 series machines.

My estimated ship date for the 15 is the 4th and my estimated receive date is the 6th.

EDIT: I got the 4710HQ/970M for $1420 + tax with a coupon code. (I added the USB recovery, so it would have been $1400 + tax without that.)

This was about the same price as the NP8651 (P650SE) I was about to order, but I think I'll be happier with this (as long as it lasts longer than my M14x did...).

I have a confirmed shipping date with the: 4k screen, 970M, i7, 128 SSD+1TB, 16GB Ram... It is confirmed to ship on the 4th.

If you want it to ship before the 20th for 4k you have to ask for priority processing. BTW i used no special promo codes or anything fany and i waas out the door at 1800... i also bought the graphics adapter. All the information on it is so shotty, but what i gather its running at 4x on the 13's since they use the i5 and it only supports 2x4... the i7 should do 2x8.... so ill be happy to share performance once it gets in... Im going to buy the superclocked 980.. There is a flat 75 off right now and another 35 off the graphics adapter... then there is teh standard 2% off total purchase... plus 5% cash back.. plus whatever your cc gives you.... I was going to go with the clevo 650 in 4k but this ended up cheaper, and i love the build quality of my xps 15 laptop with the aluminum and CF chasis... it was kinda a selling point for me to see the alienware move in that direction... even with BGA its a decent price... anywho im rambling... sorry

Anyone who currently owns an Alienware, can turbo boost and hyperthreading be disabled in the BIOS of your machine? Just curious.

It is in the stock bios. ;)
I disabled it on mine (turbo boost) because the fan going to full RPM every now and then annoyed me.

Actually it is (after bricking my machine with an unlocked one!). It's a standard option I believe on all machines, but I think it can have a knock-on effect for GPU boost if it uses processor states to decide on load - not sure about this at all

I've seen them do that before, then the date will suddenly revert to an earlier date once they hit a threshold of orders to place a batch order for parts, more often than not delivery seems to be with next day shipping like 2 weeks shorter than the shipping date.

Damn, I really, really want that AW 15... but I need the AW 13 as well :(

Not sure I can hold out till Silverlake ..... aaarrgghhh... then there is the option to just pick up an AW 17 ...

It seems like some people are worried about having to fork out a lot of money to have the motherboard replaced if the BGA machines fail out of warranty. Does anyone know if Dell/Alienware has a program like Apple's where you can send the machine back and have everything fixed for one flat rate?

For example, my MacBook Pro (out of warranty) died a couple of weeks ago and needed a new motherboard, WiFi card, and some new internal cables. Apple charged me $310 to have everything that failed in the computer replaced.

Some people are making it sound like that replacement would cost $1000+, which I don't feel like that's true. But I could be wrong.

I have seen people get a fixed price fix for any fault out-of-warranty with Dell (it was in the region of £250 GBP) but it will be specific to a countries' support offering.

My life is complicated due to my wife despising the sound of heavy fans, which means the AW 13 works well for me in the living room, dining room etc. When I am on the road (I work from home but on the road on average once a week/month) in IT, I need a more serious system but the M11x-R2 was just too much for me to drag through subways and airports on a consistent basis. The M14x-R2 works well in this role, but .... I can't flip it for anything now, its a shame because all in all it is a good system for most users. I might "gift" it to my stepdaughter who got my old M11x-R2 as a gift recently. My step-kids love having a stepfather who is into computers lol.

I was looking at the new AWs pages. Firstly, is the RAM and storage and screen user upgradeable? And am I right in saying that it's impossible to get the i7 processor on the AW 15 with 8 GB of RAM?

RAM and storage are user upgradeable, not sure about the screen though.

LOL I think they do... my wife (the accountant) is learning to appreciate them... in the beginning she was like "Are you sure this laptop you don't want is better than my Dell I bought in 2003"? I still laugh when I think of that conversation... it was like the Fiesta driver questioning the slightly used Porsche from two years ago you were giving them

Kind of funny. My wife has come to love my r2 sitting in the living room. When I was talking of building a desktop and selling it she made me change my mind. Hence the new lease of life with 980m SLI now. Might I add... MXM for the win!

GM200 is supposed to be about 35% faster than 980 when averaged across games at 1440p according to leaked benchmarks from Chiphell. Slightly disappointing but nonetheless two of these in SLI will pretty much run any current game (including Crysis 3) at 60 frames @ 4K if you don't go nuts with AA.

damn ease up robo that image was definitely made by MSI's marketing team and I pulled it off Tom's from their review of the GT70 lol

Damn guy the Classified deserves nothing less than a 4790K at the minimum. Please don't hook it up to some BGA trash. :( Stay Classy ;)

Only 35% faster? That's really disappointing if true. Would put it around the same number of shaders as GK110 if clock speeds hold, or around 3072 if clocks are lower than 980. AMD's rumored 4000+ shader HBM monster should rip it a new one.

Damn Nvidia is in trouble. Shoulda saved 20nm for GM200 instead of friggin' Tegra X1. Who the hell cares about smart cars anyway. Now AMD is gonna ride its 20nm advantage all the way to the bank.

I foresee Nvidia and Intel eventually coming into conflict with each other. As Nvidia's forays into mobile interfere with Intel's attempts at grabbing market share, and Intel's improving integrated graphics start eating into Nvidia's low end GPU offerings demand, something will start happening, and its likely to be good for use consumers.

Considering pretty much every single leak about Maxwell originated from Chiphell (no matter what the other websites try to tell you about their "inside sources"), I'm inclined to give them a bit more credit.

That's just the usual flagship price gouging (assuming the M295X is AMD's top-of-the-line).

The party faithful will pay the premium to have the best, performance is a secondary factor. When the next revision is released the prices drop to reasonable levels...

    My guess ;)

I'll let you know. It definitely is funky looking. The 5820k should provide a good amount of performance. My previous build, the case was a Corsair Obsidian 800D. I can't wait for EVGA to already release that kingpin 980. Want to hit 1.6Ghz at least.

Honestly, I was going to build my own desktop from scratch again. Then I saw on the EVGA forums someone selling the Area 51 R2. They said they were willing to do a trade + cash so I ended up trading my GTX TITAN plus cash. Should be receiving it Friday. :D

My last build had a custom water cooling loop, sleved cables all around, custom leds , fan controller, basically the works. Just thought I'd try and see how the A51 is for once instead of building my own pc. Been about eight years I believe since I've bought a computer instead of making it myself lol.

Also I like the idea of having warranty for almost all of the components from a single company. The GPU will of course have its standard 3 year warranty from EVGA.
