Who's still waiting for the Black m15x

you know at first i thought waiting for the black color was silly now i wish i had. hey maybe ill pick up the base model in black ripley.

 

I wish you could just send in ur laptop if you got the silver one and they would switch the case for a small fee

 

just been on the phone to alienware CS and the guy on the phone say that he's not even sure that there are any plains for a black mx15 dont no how true this is as the alienware CS is not told anything up until a few days before they put new stuff on the web site.

i think they should reallly release this info. If i knew right now that this black design would not be out untill say august, then i get the silver now as its too long of a wait. If it would be out in say about a month, then i would wait and get it then as i want better build quality (hopefully it will have that)

ugh.....This is really frustrating. If alienware didn't show the thing last November it wouldn't be such a big deal but good lord, it's been almost 6 months and they won't even talk about the black m15x. Really, calling their stuff area 51 makes sense, because you can probably get just as much information from the real area 51. Then they release the m17x and what color is it? BLACK. Sorry to add the anger to the thread, I just wish they would say something or anything about this......frustrating.

 

I just did the online sales chat thing and asked about the black m15x and here is what i got......"I am unable to say as that information is not given ahead of time". I think they might be robots........

 

As I say, I really wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to sweep the options under the rug. They may have scrapped them entirely.

 

i think your right grb, those where mere concepts. i doubt there going to ever come.

 

Think about it, it's 8 different shells that they need sitting around AW HQ with variable demand for each (some are more/less popular than others). For a small(ish) company like AW, that could be very hard to manage.

I'm thinking they scrapped the idea entirely either because of that issue, or because they've had such a hard time with these things already that they don't want to have to make more work for themselves by adding in this 'customization' feature.

 

wow im sooooo sick of this... Ive been waiting just about six months... also, where the hell is skullcap? really... how long could it possibly take to put out a new case?

EDIT: @ GRB if they did scrap the options dont you think they would have told us by now? I mean it would be in the best interest to do so. Since there are alot of people waiting on black/skullcap

yeah i just went ahead and ordered my m15x tonight, its not even worth the wait anymore plus I dont even really like the matte black that much

 

many ppl are willing to pay more for an AW is due to it looks anyway......i hope they release it and release it

they probably are not going to release black skullcap glossy, i mean if they were they would of already done it with the m17x instead of coming out with matte black

 

it sucks. the m15x will probally never be in black glossy skullcap. so if i cant get all three of thoose i guess im fine with the current design.

 

I think the AlienNetwork should be on more frequent.

But wow, if they still didn't release other options now when will they release them?

 

Skullcap will probaply get released in Episode 2 (airing in June) with Monteniva as well,they trying to control production with offering a case at a time,trying to sell there new design first (Riplay silver/black in m15x/m17x).
Its all about marketing tricks...

 

You would think. Anyway, I'm not saying that I know they're gone or anything like that, I'm just speculating. Hopefully they will bring the options out, but the fact they've stayed absolutely silent on the matter (plus the fact that the m17x has now been released, but still only in one style) has me worried.

 

this seriously pisses me off! they finally release the black version.... but only on the m17x!!! this is not very good marketing in my mind, as im just getting so annoyed with alienware, that im going to go buy something else, somewhere else.

and i did expect the m17X to be a bit cheaper
anyway......after waiting so long....it just made me want to go for something else now.........just my personal feeling

 

I'll probably end up getting something esle too. I just wish they would say SOMETHING....If they aren't going to release the black m15x, just tell us!

 

After looking at the silver for 6 freaken months i'm happy i just ordered it yesterday, I mean i've been on here since january and lets see.. it was first said black would be released in mid feb, then early march, then late march, then april which they did but for the m17x, and now june? yeah personally i'm not waiting anymore. What they should do is have it to where you can pay them to put a new case on your system.

 

Silver is very nice. As a former black ripley-wanter, the silver ripley is just as good (I think better, for my personal tastes, but I think anyone will at least appreciate it)

 

yeah one of the main factors is that silver wont be plagued with finger prints causing you to have to clean it all the time.

 

que pasa? won't both black and silver be slammed with fingerprints? also...

with the black, will it still have the wonky (awesome) black bottom, silver insides, black bezel, silver top style layout?

Personally, I want a ripley... prefer black, but the silver keeps growing on me, and I don't care that much between the two (would still prefer black)

 

silver has no visable fingerprints.

I don't know if it's just me or if it has been discussed/debated but doesn't the m17x pics look like it has a matte black finish and not glossy ?
*If* that's the case (pun intended ) then I'd be happy to drop $3K on it in a heartbeat.. Otherwise I'll have to think about how OCD I'll get cleaning it every 5 min

Yes, the m17x has a matte black finish like the m9750.

 

I'm the opposite: If I'm going to blow that much of a laptop it's got to look good, and to hell with practicality!

 

Perhaps its because the matt black finish wont allow side pipe lighting? If thats the case then come out with it alienware and stop di**ing around your potential customers with mind numbing video's telling us what we already know. Isnt it about time you cut the bull and give us what we want which in turn gives you what you want i.e revitalised status/money/pride once again knowing you are the gamers best and most admired friend? But thats just silly talk isnt it.

 

could it be that the cases are actually different?

Since a monty mobo would be different form a santa rosa mobo, could the black case be meant for monty only? (different screwmounts or something)

Seriously, black is the color of pwnage. Black is the color of unlocked AMD processors, awesome cars, cool lights, special ops, and all things that bad a$s.

Okay my opinion is that Alienware has not pushed out enough m15x's out the door so they are worried about releasing two configs because this would mean that they would need to make 2 separate cases which would cost even more money.

 

I've just been waiting for montevina, but it's getting more and more tempting to buy now...

 

It seems like they have been flying out the door. With all the parts backordered constantly and such.

I think that the opposite may be true (I think I may have hit every theory there is in this thread as well...), that the are selling so many silver m15x's that they see no reason to release a black one because it would only increase their costs, while only netting them a few more sales.

On the other hand, if they tell us that the idea is scrapped... then they may royally tick off some people who are "waiting" right now, who may not buy an m15x because of the anger at being told that there will be no black m15x (dumb thing to be mad about).

Instead... if they do nothing, those waiting for the black (give me ripley!) case will slowly loose the ability to resist, and buy a silver one. This is much better than ticking these folk off.

We can all agree on one thing though - Isn't it great that this is what we are complaining about instead of downclocking, unresponsive controls, gaps, or cracks?

Thank goodness (for those of us destined to possess this thing) that this is our biggest issue with the laptop.

 

Yeah as a former waiter for black I gave in and ordered the m15x, but I still think it would be really cool idea if AW would sell their cases so you could swap them out

 

I, for one of the few, am waiting for Black Skullcap version of m15x, but the wait is ok for me, as i am also waiting for the 9800GTX version for the laptops, which will help alot with heating and power usage, due to the smaller 45 nm dye. I don't care too much for the new intel M processors chips, GPU Horse Power > CPU Horse Power, well thats my opinion for me.

And im not rushing to get the m15x too, for 2 main reasons,

1. I want other Notebook companies to "catch up" and produce 15 inch laptops with 9800/8800 GPU, so that there can be more compertition, and more options for us to choose from.

2. I want all of the m15x issues to be ironed out.

 

what more options could you want? you can choose from three GPU's, five CPU's, three RAM arrangements, about six or seven HDD's...

 

Montevina will not be in these laptop's why would they call them m17x and then go from a santa rosa to a montevina. Surely they would CHANGE the model with such a massive leap in chipset.

It would be like VW creating the Beetle car and calling it a Golf, even though the two look completely different. Where is the benefit in that??

 

seriously we need an answer to this... I don't understand why an alienware rep doesn't give us a straight answer. It would be in their best interest.

 

I think you totally misunderstood me, or maybe i didn't state my opinion clearer. the "More Options" part meant to be more different companies of notebooks to choose from.

Eg. if i want a 13.3 inch laptop, with a bit of GPU power for multimedia etc, i can go with dell's m1330, Sony's sz7, LG's P300, Epson's Endeavor and i think Asus has one as well. So you have more options/choices.

 

hmm, it seems its working. i no longer care about the colour. i just cared aboutthe build quality and hopefully thought that the black would be better. On a sidenote, there is a company that does vynils who have specifically made one for the m15x that is completely black.

The AW reps are most likely bound by NDA (Non-disclosure Agreement) rules. Therefore they can't tell us.

 

I just remember seeing a video of a black m15x, so i google it abit and found this, it was back in Nov during the NYC event where they first showcase the m15x and m17x.
